Davina McCall reveals ‘terrifying’ thoughts about death after brain tumour surgery

Davina McCall, a television host and podcaster, has recovered from a brain tumor and is back in style this year. She also acknowledges that while she is frightened of passing away, she has “comed’ with it.”

After receiving the all-clear, Davina is enjoying life and anticipating the future.

TV presenter Davina McCall has told how her brain tumour affected her life and family relationships – and she urged them to bond together if she died. The 57-year-old TV host underwent an operation to remove a benign brain tumour that has left her “not afraid of dying any more”.

In a new interview with Good Housekeeping UK, Davina opened up on her earlier fears: “I’ve been terrified of dying my whole life – my mum died quite young, my dad died quite young, and my sister died very young.

What must I do to make that okay since I have to accept the fact that I might not make it? I had to accept the outcome and sleep soundly without experiencing the utter horror of death.

“If I go, I really need you to stay plugged in to the kids (Holly, Tilly, and Chester), who she shares with her ex-husband Matthew Robertson,” she told her partner, Michael Douglas.

We told one another that, even though we were both scared, we were open to it. Knowing that everything was ready made things easier.

In April, the former Big Brother presenter confirmed her “final MRI” had shown a colloid cyst, which she had removed in November 2024, is “not coming back”, after it was found when she was offered a health check-up as part of her menopause advocacy work. Davina also spoke about how she and stylist partner Michael told her children about the tumour in the interview.

She continued, “Michael and I just had a leisurely conversation in the kitchen.” Look, we know what it is and where it is; it’s quite uncommon, but we’ve found someone who has had the operation before and feels confident.

“I didn’t talk to them about dying, but I did write a letter to each of them and made my will.” I said, “You’re all great kids and you’ll all be fine if I don’t make it.” Of course, I want to make it, but if I don’t, you’ll all turn out great.

I don’t want to read the letters right now because I feel like I’ve passed away, but I do want them to know how proud I am of them. “Davina spent time in intensive care following her surgery, and now she is recovering at home with the assistance of her long-term partner. She recalled how her partner responded to her short-term memory issues following surgery and how happy she was that their relationship was now back to normal.

Michael has been incredibly helpful with all of this. Looking after someone who is sorely needed and vulnerable is exhausting. I once found his behavior to be a little odd, but I had no idea why. I said to him, “Michael, I’ve noticed you don’t want to be around me much.” I get it if you have a different opinion of me. He claimed that it was because I was “annoying at the moment,” and that I had never felt so relieved to be told I was annoying. Because I kept asking the same questions over and over again, I knew I was. At that, we both had a sharp laugh.

Davina McCall in Good Housekeeping magazine
Davina once more appears as a cover girl.

She spoke about the removal of the tumour while co-presenting this year’s Red Nose Day for Comic Relief and said it was “the hardest thing I’ve ever been through”.

According to the NHS, non-cancerous brain tumours are more common in people over the age of 50, and symptoms include headaches, vision problems and drowsiness, and some can be “difficult to remove without damaging surrounding tissue”. Looking ahead, Davina insisted she was stepping into a new chapter with courage and a reclaimed sense of who she is:

She said, “I’ve told myself I’m not smart, and I’ve talked myself down my entire life.” I had a hard time getting my math grade A level because I was very unhappy and was taking a lot of drugs at the time. However, as a result of all of this, I’ve had verbal and nonverbal reasoning memory tests, and I came out really well. Although it shouldn’t have to be taken in that way, I’ve come to the realization that I’m much smarter than I think.

“Nothing makes me feel afraid right now.” I’ll even retake my math A level the following summer. If you’ve always wanted to do something and can afford it right away, “f*** it!”

Davina, the host of new BBC romance reality show Stranded On Honeymoon Island, has long advocated for women’s health issues, and has presented a documentary called Sex, Myths And The Menopause and another on contraception called Davina McCall’s Pill Revolution.

She received a special award at the National Television Awards in 2024 for her broadcasting career and received an MBE in the King’s Birthday honors in 2023.

Amorim admits Man Utd were ‘completely lost’ in Grimsby loss

Following a bloody penalty shootout, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim claimed his team “were completely lost” in the Carabao Cup defeat at Grimsby.

Any hope that existed prior to the new campaign is already waning with the defeat against League Two opposition.

Before Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire scored late goals to tie the game, United, who had led 2-0 after 30 minutes and could have scored three goals down in the second period, lacked rhythm.

Every subsequent player scored until Mbeumo hit the bar to settle the shootout 12-11 in the hosts’ favor after Matheus Cunha missed the chance to win the game for United with the final kick of the regulation five.

Amorim said, “I think this is a little bit the limit,” as he reflected on the defeat. I believe something needs to alter. We need to concentrate on the weekend right now before we can reflect.

The only team on the pitch at the time, “Tonight,” I believe the best team prevailed.

He continued, “I think the team and the players spoke really loud today, so that’s it,” referring to his own players’ performances. The best team triumphed, but we lost.

Let’s move on from this day because I believe what they said is really clear. Everyone should be aware of what happened today, in my opinion.

We were completely lost when we started the game without much effort.

United finished 15th last year in their worst league campaign since being relegated in 1974, 20 times the English champions.

One of their only other legitimate chances to win a trophy this year has now vanished due to one of the club’s worst results in recent memory.

Amorim made eight changes to the Fulham side that drew 1-1 on Sunday, but he kept the name of a side that had a sizable international contingent.

After watching another horror film, Amorim is frantically searching for answers.

Insiders at the club discussed Amorim’s potential as an ambitious coach who would soon “have them winning again” when he was hired last year to replace Erik ten Hag.

Fans’ sentiments on the terraces of popular match-day refrains, which promise that things will improve following a “disaster” of a season in 2024 and 2025, also echoed that optimism.

Despite the club’s significant investment this summer to upgrade their striking options, it appears to be misplaced based on this evidence.

Amorim is the only Premier League player to have a win percentage of 24.1%, which is equal to Neil Warnock, who was twice relegated from the top tier of English football.

And a loss by Burnley at Old Trafford this weekend would only raise questions about his record, with Amorim coming off as unresponsive and agitated when he was interrogated about whether he could believe what he saw.

He continued, “No, but I’m the manager.” “It ought to be my responsibility to comprehend what transpired.

I’m sorry for our fans, once more. Let’s get to the next game.

He continued, “I have no more answers,” he said in a statement from BBC Radio 5 Live. I’m not even able to offer any opinions. I just want to say sorry to our supporters. I apologize so much.

“We should have won against Fulham after we played well against Arsenal.” Then, to come to this game of League Cup because everything has been thoroughly examined and we have done that.

How ’embarrassed’ Martin’s ‘toughest night’ unfolded in Rangers hammering

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

The head coach has no worries about his future, despite the “humiliating and painful” six-goal defeat at Club Brugge by Rangers being the “toughest night” of his career.

The former Scotland defender is being subjected to more scrutiny by the Ibrox supporters, to whom Martin apologized following the record-equalling European defeat, after a demoralizing evening in Belgium.

Rangers were eliminated from the Champions League play-offs in the most ignominious way possible thanks to the 6-0 defeat, which resulted in a 9-1 aggregate thumping.

I offer only an apology to the fans, Martin said. I’m sorry they had to witness that.

It’s both painful and humiliating, they say. They must have endured that, which causes disappointment and pain.

I don’t believe I learned anything new from tonight; I’m just embarrassed by my defeat. It was probably my most difficult night as a head coach.

I believe we will advance, advance, and grow without any change.

Rangers “ripped apart” in an “embarrassing” collapse

James Tavernier, Martin’s captain, and Nicolas Raskin, Martin’s starting bench, both caused a stir when Martin made his team selection.

The Rangers manager said he wanted to play the “freshest” and most attacking team he could have had before deciding to leave Belgium midfielder Raskin.

Right-back Max Aarons received a red card shortly after Nicolo Tresoldi’s opener, but that plan was abandoned eight minutes later.

“Madness” was how Martin put Rangers’ beginning in Bruges in words. There is a lot of pain that is self-inflicted. We are so inadequate in resolving problems.

Following the team’s 3-1 first-leg defeat last week, Martin vowed that his side would never again concede the goals that were set during the calamitous opening session at Ibrox.

His team was five points ahead of the break and six points ahead of the final minute against the same foe.

After this one, Martin said, “I don’t think we’ll be defeated 6-0 again.”

Billy Dodds, a former Rangers striker, was concerned when Brugge’s second goal hit the back of the net. He said on BBC Sportsound that this could become “incredibly embarrassing.”

The former Ibrox coach added, “It’s not a nice night to be here and watch this as a Scottish football fan, because they’re getting ripped apart,” after three goals and 15 minutes.

Contact us.

We don’t need to win the derby to keep my job, they say.

Opta

Given that Rangers’ final goal came with 40 minutes left, it seems absurd to suggest Rangers would have settled for six.

The relentless hosts had 32 shots on hand, 26 of which were inside the Rangers 18-yard area when the game was over.

In the opposing box, they also managed 70 touches. Zero was on Martin’s side.

Rangers have the chance to put a miserable night behind them in Sunday’s first Old Firm derby against Celtic, but many fans won’t want Martin to be in the dugout.

The former Southampton manager acknowledged that his relationship with the squad had “broken harmony,” but he still thinks he can change things.

Although many supporters may not be patient at this stage, Martin asserts that the Rangers’ hierarchy “knows this may take time.”

The head coach wants to use the “pain and humiliation” as “fuel” for the derby.

“The manner of defeat tonight is unacceptable and hurtful,” Martin continued. But I must work and remain focused in the end result.

We must remove that weight from the group and move forward, he said. Both the players and I must accept everything that is expected of me.

However, I must bear the responsibility of taking it all. The work we do going forward won’t be impacted by it.

Israel launches new operations in Syria after strike kills soldiers

According to Syria’s state-run al-Ekhbariya TV, Israeli forces have launched several strikes on a former army barracks in Kiswa, southwest of Damascus.

Israeli aircraft were seen attacking various locations in the village on Wednesday, according to video that Al Jazeera’s Sanad fact-checking agency uncovered.

A Syrian military source also reported to Al Jazeera that the Israeli army used four helicopters to land in the barracks during the operation.

The Israeli army spent more than two hours at the site, and the source claims that it brought in dozens of soldiers and an unnamed number of pieces of search equipment.

Israeli forces involved in the landing and Syrian army forces did not engage in combat.

Six soldiers were killed by an Israeli drone strike close to Kiswa the day before the operation, and interim interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa’s government has been under increasing pressure from Syrian officials to accuse Israel of trying to retake control of the area.

Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the strike “a flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter” in a statement released on Wednesday.

The attack constituted “a clear violation of the Syrian Arab Republic’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” it added.

Since Bashar al-Assad’s regime was overthrown in December, Israel has launched hundreds of strikes against military installations and assets all over Syria. In a move that was incompatible with Syria’s disengagement agreement of 1974, it has also expanded its occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights by seizing the demilitarized buffer zone.

Israel sent 60 soldiers to take control of an area near Mount Hermon, a strategic hilltop close to the Syrian border, according to Syria’s Foreign Ministry on Monday.

Asaad al-Shaibani, the minister of foreign affairs in Syria, criticized Israel’s “military incursion” as part of its “expansionist and partition plans.”

Following the deadly clashes in Suwayda, a province with a high level of Druze, in which 1,400 people died in a week of sectarian violence in July, Israel’s most recent operations came to an end.

Celebrity Big Brother star Mickey Rourke looked unrecognisable in pictures taken outside his Los Angeles home, months after he was kicked off the reality programme for his behaviour.

After further “use of inappropriate language” and “instances of unacceptable behavior,” including using “sexual language” in conversation with reality TV star Ella Rae Wise, actor Rourke, who is well-known for his roles in The Wrestler and Sin City, was expelled from the BB house.

Since his departure from the show, Mickey was rarely seen out and about upon returning to Los Angeles. However, he was recently spotted briefly popping his head out of his house to pick up food that was delivered to him.

He was seen sporting his natural grey hair in a cropped style while renowned for his long, brown hair on the show. Additionally, the actress donned a silver chain with a heart pendant, a black zip hoodie with no shirt on underneath, and green sweatpants.

As he picked up the silver package and the white bag of food, he paused for a moment. In a home in Beverly Hills with a run-down front door and an overgrown garden full of dead vines, Mickey resides.

When Mickey was kicked out of the show over his actions months ago, an ITV spokesperson released a statement on their decision and said: “Mickey Rourke has agreed to leave the Celebrity Big Brother House this evening following a discussion with Big Brother regarding further use of inappropriate language and instances of unacceptable behaviour.”

Mickey later apologized, saying, “I stepped over the line and I accept responsibility for the wrong thing.” Because I lost my temper, and I’ve tried to control it my entire life, I regret my actions.

He continued, “I’m embarrassed of losing it for a brief moment there. Nobody was hurt or touched by anything. You know, I’m sorry about that, but maybe some feelings got hurt or maybe others had feelings about others getting upset.

Following Mickey’s firing for making homophobic remarks to reality star JoJo Siwa, more than 1, 000 complaints were made about Celebrity Big Brother.

The actor, who is renowned for producing the films Iron Man 2, 9 1/2 Weeks, and Sin City, admitted before leaving the house that he had a “short fuse” and that he had tried everything to get out of here.

Danny Beard came in second, followed by soap star Jack P Shepherd, who won Big Brother in the end.

Meanwhile, fellow CBB stars JoJo and Chris Hughes went on to date in the real world after forming a close relationship in the house.
