With the high temperatures we’ve already had this summer, it’s likely you’ve already got a fan, however, if you’re looking for an extra one to add around the house or to upgrade your current one, we’ve found the ultimate deal on Amazon that is definitely not worth missing.

Rated as Amazon’s number one selling tower fan, the Pureborne 42 Inch Smart Tower Fan with Remote & App Control has been discounted from a huge £349.95 to £79.99—that’s a huge 78% saving. The best part is that if you order on Amazon Prime, it will arrive by tomorrow in time for the rest of the heatwave.

This ultra-quiet tower fan features a smart airflow design that keeps noise levels low at every speed, so it’s perfect for bedrooms, home offices, or anywhere else you need peaceful cooling.

With four speed settings, four modes, and a 90° oscillation, you can adjust the breeze to exactly how you like. Plus, the clever Auto mode changes the speed based on your room’s temperature.

Its bladeless design also makes this fan totally safe for children and pets. While its ability to be controlled via remote, touch panel, app, or even your voice via Alexa and Google Assistant makes it great for all ages.

And it’s got the shopper reviews to back it up. Customers have been raving about its quiet design, how easy it is to use and how well it cools down the room. One happy shopper wrote: “The best fan I’ve ever owned. Fantastic cool breeze blowing. Remote control. Quiet. Ticks all my boxes, amazing value. 5 stars from me. I am well impressed.”

A second added: “Finally, a fan that doesn’t sound like a jet engine! Honestly, the silence is the biggest win for me. I can actually sleep with this on in the bedroom. The app is dead easy to use, set the timer before bed and forget about it. The automatic mode is surprisingly effective; wakes up feeling cool without freezing half the night.”

Not everyone was as impressed with a third shopper writing: “Honestly a little underwhelming. At the cost of £350 full price, and £80 at discount, you’d expect it to be pretty good. Sibling had a round fan that he bought for £20 from BnM which has more power.”

Japan To Adopt Stricter Measures After Deaths of Two Boxers

Japanese boxing officials said on Tuesday they would introduce urine tests, stricter rules on weight loss to prevent dehydration, and improve medical cover at bouts following the deaths of two fighters.

The new measures were adopted during an emergency meeting of the Japan Pro Boxing Association (JPBA), the Japan Boxing Commission (JBC), and gym owners on Tuesday.

It was convened after super featherweight Shigetoshi Kotari and lightweight Hiromasa Urakawa, both 28, died days after brain surgery on injuries they sustained in separate bouts at Tokyo’s Korakuen Hall on August 2.

The exact cause of the boxers’ deaths is to be determined, but dehydration caused by cutting weight rapidly is regarded as a factor in making the brain more susceptible to bleeding, according to the World Boxing Association.

The deaths were “really regrettable,” said JPBA president Shoji Kobayashi. “We gathered today to establish a plan towards zero accidents.”

New measures to be implemented as soon as possible include urine tests for measuring dehydration and stricter rules on boxers’ rapid weight loss, said Tsuyoshi Yasukochi, secretary-general of the JBC.

Ambulances will also be required on site, even for non-world championship bouts. They will partner with hospitals that are equipped to perform emergency surgery for head and other injuries.

There will also be new rules on how long before a fight sparring must be stopped during training, he said.

Officials decided “to take all measures possible so we do not let the deaths of the two be in vain,” Yasukochi added.

Kotari collapsed and later died after going 12 rounds in an Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation title fight. The JBC had already announced all future OPBF title bouts would be reduced to 10 rounds.

“That such an incident occurred involving top-level boxers means we may face arguments that boxing should be halted,” admitted Toshiharu Kayama, former Japan welterweight champion and president of the boxing gym Ebisu K’s Box.

“We, the association and gyms, want to think and change” the way the sport is contested, Kayama said.

An accident investigation committee will work to find out the cause of the boxers’ deaths later this month and guidance on prevention measures will be updated, Yasukochi said.

The JBC and JPBA will also hold a safety meeting later this month, which will include the organisations’ doctors as well as the amateur boxing federation, he added.

Wildfires in Spain kill one person as thousands forced to flee

A man has died from burns and thousands of people have been forced to flee as wildfires sweep through parts of Spain, fuelled by strong winds during a searing heatwave across Europe.

The victim suffered serious burns as winds of up to 70 kilometres per hour (43 miles per hour) whipped the flames through Tres Cantos, a wealthy suburb north of the capital, Madrid, officials said on Tuesday.

The man later died in hospital, becoming the first death from dozens of wildfires to hit the country since the heatwave began last week.

The head of the regional government of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, said in a message on X that she “deeply regretted” the man’s death.

Hundreds of Tres Cantos residents were evacuated from their homes.

“In barely 40 minutes, the fire advanced 6km [3.7 miles],” Carlos Novillo, Madrid’s regional environment chief, told reporters.

By Tuesday morning, regional officials said the blaze had been contained.

Elsewhere, about 2,000 people were evacuated from hotels and homes near the popular beaches of Tarifa in the southern region of Andalusia.

The wildfire there broke out near where a similar blaze forced evacuations earlier this month.

“We managed to save the residential area at the very last second,” said Antonio Sanz, the interior minister of Andalusia.

A Civil Guard police officer was injured when struck by a car while helping with the evacuation, he added.

In the northwestern region of Castile and Leon, more than 30 blazes were reported on Monday, including one threatening Las Medulas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ancient Roman gold mines.

Heat alerts were also issued in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and the Balkans, with temperatures expected to soar above 40C. One child died of heatstroke in Italy on Monday.

Turkiye battles fires in northwest

Wildfires are also raging in Turkiye.

Firefighters battled multiple wildfires across the country on Tuesday with a large blaze in the northwestern province of Canakkale burning for a second day after hundreds of residents were evacuated as a precaution.

Both the Canakkale Airport and the Dardanelles Strait, which connects the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara, were temporarily closed due to the wildfires on Monday.

Wildfires in Canakkale province’s Ezine and Ayvacik districts were largely brought under control, but blazes in the province’s centre, south of the Dardanelles Strait, were still burning, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli said in a post on X.

Seven planes and six helicopters were tackling the blaze on Tuesday, Canakkale Governor Omer Toraman said on X, adding that there was no immediate danger to residential areas.

Other wildfires in the northern province of Edirne and southern province of Hatay were brought under control while efforts were under way to battle another wildfire in the western province of Manisa, Yumakli said.

The wildfires coincide with what meteorologists expect to be the most intense day yet of the ongoing heatwave in Europe, with all regions under weather alerts.

IYD 2025: Young Workers Push For Democracy, Justice, Better Future

Young workers globally are calling for democracy, justice and a better future as the world celebrates the 2025 International Youth Day on August 12.

The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), in a statement said it celebrates the power of young people to shape a more just and sustainable world.

According to the statement, with the United Nations theme, “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,” the ITUC said that this year, it recognises how young people, especially young workers, are no longer waiting for change, but are already driving it.

“From leading local climate actions to organising unions and resisting authoritarianism, young people are on the front lines of the fight for democracy, decent work, and human rights. Their leadership is essential to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and responding to the converging crises of our time.

“In 2025, the ITUC’s campaign “For Democracy that Delivers” is spotlighting the urgent need to rebuild democratic institutions that work for working people. Youth participation is central to this. Around the world, young people are demanding democratic renewal at work, in our societies and in global institutions,” the ITUC said in a statement.

Also, while commenting on the Day, ITUC General Secretary Luc Triangle said: “Democracy and trade unions are under attack in every region of the world. The rights to organise, strike and bargain collectively are being eroded. Authoritarian forces and far-right movements are rising. Young workers are among those most impacted, yet they are also leading the pushback.

“Young workers know that democracy is not just about elections. It’s about participation, inclusion and collective action. Young people are demanding a democracy that delivers for people and the planet.”

To mark the IYD 2025, the ITUC Youth Committee said it is launching a new policy paper on ‘Polycrisis and Young Workers’, which highlights how young workers are navigating a world of overlapping crises.

ITUC Youth Committee Chair Satyajeet Gongolla concluded: “Young trade union activists are organising in their communities and workplaces for real solutions, from gender justice and a just transition to decent jobs and strong, inclusive unions.

Katie Price has revealed her dramatically altered face following another round of cosmetic procedures in Istanbul and has admitted that she can no longer perform basic function amid her healing process.

On Monday, the 47-year-old was seen leaving Turkey’s Trio Clinic with her face heavily bandaged, having undergone a series of enhancements, including a brow lift, eye lift, and lip correction.

Despite visible swelling and dressings, Katie appeared upbeat in hospital selfies, even posing with her medical team in an elevator. The procedures follow a £10,000 facelift earlier this year and add to her long list of body modifications. It comes after Katie snubbed her daughter Princess’ reality show launch amid their reported feud.

Now, Katie has shared another update with fans as she revealed that she can no longer smile after her latest round of surgeries. Taking to her stories on Tuesday morning, the former glamour posted a photo of her brand-new face as she covered her eyes with huge oversized sunglasses.

Showing off her new plumper than ever pout, Katie told her followers “I can’t smile” as she hinted at a long healing process over the next couple of weeks.

Katie has often spoken openly about her battle with body image and surgery addiction. Earlier this year while appearing on The Louis Theroux podcast, the mum-of-five admitted that she thinks she has suffered with body dysmorphia all of her life.

At the time, she told the journalist and documentary-maker: “I don’t ever look in the mirror and think I look good. I never have done. So, there’s obviously an underlying issue.”

Plastic surgeon and CREO Medical Director previously warned of the mounting risks Katie faces with each operation.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, he said: “Repeated surgeries can lead to scar tissue buildup, nerve damage, and skin thinning… There’s also the possibility of infection, asymmetry, or complications like poor wound healing.”

While recovering from surgery, Katie has also found herself at the center of a reported fallout with her daughter Princess, 18.

She claimed on her podcast she was excluded from Princess’ ITV documentary and birthday party: “Princess was like ‘I’m having a party’. And I wasn’t invited because it was for filming… There’s stuff my daughter is doing and I’m not allowed to be seen at any of it.”

Katie also said she broke down in tears after learning she’d been barred from participating in the show: “They didn’t want me on it. They said I’m ‘trash’.”

However, insiders offered a different version, claiming Katie missed a planned birthday meetup that morning in London, choosing instead to continue partying abroad.

“It was all scheduled, but she didn’t show up. For her to later say she was banned from the afternoon’s party is beyond belief,” a source told The Mirror.
