Tommy Fleetwood carded a six-under 64 to open up a four-shot lead before play was suspended in the second round of the St Jude Championship in Memphis due to severe weather.

Having shot 63 in the opening round, the 34-year-old Englishman followed up superbly with seven birdies.

A bogey on the 18th was the only blemish on Fleetwood’s total of 13 under as he put himself in a strong position for a first ever PGA Tour victory.

After hitting a fine 65, two-time major champion Collin Morikawa is at nine under, along with his fellow American Akshay Bhatia in the opening event of the FedExCup play-offs.

World number one Scottie Scheffler is in the clubhouse at seven under after firing 66.

Englishman Harry Hall’s round of 72 left him on four under – a stroke ahead of Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre, while 2022 US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick is at two under after a disappointing 71, which contained five bogeys.

Suspect dies, officer injured in shooting at Emory University in Georgia

Police in the United States have responded to an active shooting incident on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, that injured one police officer and resulted in the suspect’s death.

In an alert sent on Friday, students were told to “RUN, HIDE, FIGHT” and avoid the area close to the nearby Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

At 6: 43pm local time (22: 43 GMT), the Atlanta Police Department confirmed that the shooter had been killed, though it continued to advise staying away from the crime scene.

“There is no ongoing threat to the Emory campus or the surrounding neighborhood”, the police department said in a statement. “The incident involved a single shooter who is now deceased. One law enforcement officer was injured in the course of the response”.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone else was hurt in the shooting.

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr said authorities were “praying for the safety of the entire campus community”.

“We’re horrified by the news out of Emory University and praying for the safety of the entire campus community”, he said.

In a post on the social media platform X, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp decried the shooting, noting it was the second high-profile shooting in the state this week.

On Wednesday, an army sergeant opened fire at Fort Stewart, an army base in eastern Georgia, injuring five fellow soldiers. No one was killed in the attack, and a suspect, 28-year-old Quornelius Radford, was taken into custody.

“Twice this week, deranged criminals have targeted innocent Georgians”, Kemp wrote on X.

“We ask that you join us in holding them in our prayers, along with those harmed this evening near the CDC Center”, he said.

Georgia’s representative in the US Congress, Senator Raphael Warnock, also expressed his condolences.

Trump announces August 15 meet-up with Putin in Alaska, warns of land swap

United States President Donald Trump has confirmed he will meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on August 15 in Alaska to discuss efforts to end the war in Ukraine

But, Trump added, any peace deal would involve “some swapping” of territory, a controversial prospect.

“We are going to have a meeting with Russia. We’ll start off with Russia,” he said on Friday, as he hosted leaders from Armenia and Azerbaijan at the White House.

Trump offered few details on what, if anything, had changed in his months-long effort to bring about a deal to end Russia’s invasion.

Still, he suggested any breakthrough would require the exchange of territory.

“It’s very complicated. But we’re going to get some back, and we’re going to get some switched. There’ll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both, but we’ll be talking about that either later or tomorrow,” he said.

Ukraine and its European allies have long opposed any agreement that involves ceding occupied territory – including Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia – to Russia.

But Putin has repeatedly said that any deal must require Ukraine to relinquish some of the territories Russia has seized since 2014.

He has also called for a pause to Western aid for Ukraine and an end to Kyiv’s efforts to join the NATO military alliance.

Questions about the meeting’s location

Still, the prospect of Trump meeting Putin has raised logistical questions in recent days, particularly since the Russian leader faces an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Prosecutors have sought his arrest for alleged war crimes perpetrated in Ukraine, and Putin’s travel through any ICC member countries could result in his detention.

The US, however, is not an ICC member and does not recognise the court’s authority.

While the Kremlin had previously floated the possibility of meeting in the United Arab Emirates, another non-member, Trump announced on Friday in a Truth Social post that he would welcome Putin to the US northernmost state, Alaska.

The state’s mainland sits approximately 88 kilometres – or 55 miles – away from Russia across the Bering Strait, and some smaller islands are even closer.

Friday’s announcement came on the same day as a deadline that Trump had imposed on Russia to reach a ceasefire passed without any new agreement.

In recent weeks, Trump had grown increasingly frustrated with Russia over the country’s continued attacks on Ukraine and its apparent unwillingness to come to an accord.

The August 15 meeting is slated to be the first tete-a-tete between the two leaders since 2019, during Trump’s first term.

‘Great progress’

Trump had broken with decades of diplomatic precedent by seeming to embrace Putin during much of his time in the White House.

Earlier this year, for instance, Trump appeared to reject Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in favour of Putin. He also blamed Ukraine’s ambitions of joining NATO for provoking Russia’s full-scale invasion of its territory in February 2022.

“Putin went through a hell of a lot with me,” Trump yelled at one point during a confrontational meeting with Zelenskyy broadcast from the White House in February.

But Trump has positioned himself as a self-described “peacemaker”, and his inability to bring the Ukraine war to a close has become a source of resentment between him and Putin.

At the same time, he took an initially permissive approach to Putin, but has since expressed growing frustration with the Russian leader amid Russia’s continued attacks.

Last week, Trump denounced Russia’s renewed attacks on Kyiv. “I think it’s disgusting what they’re doing. I think it’s disgusting,” he said.

He also demanded that Russia pause its attacks or face new sanctions and secondary tariffs on key trading partners.

On Wednesday, Trump appeared to begin to make good on that threat, raising tariffs on Indian goods to 50 percent in response to its purchase of Russian oil.

Still, this week, Trump hailed “great progress” in the peace negotiations as his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, visited Putin in Moscow.

But as of Friday, the date of the new deadline, no new US actions or Russian capitulations had been announced.

Some analysts have argued that Putin is intentionally teasing out talks to extend the war.

Princess Andre has hit out at claims that she and her brother Junior are ‘nepo babies’ ahead of her new ITV2 reality show The Princess Diaries. The 18-year-old stars in her own ITV reality series, which follows her and her family as they navigate fame.

Now, the TV personality has addressed claims that she and Junior are “nepo babies”, stating that they’re “focusing on themselves” with the Princess Diaries. When asked how it feels to be called a nepo baby, Princess told The News Movement: “Obviously, if you’re using the actual terms of a nepo baby then yeah but we are focusing on ourselves and this is our own career.

“I feel like within the last few years, I’ve built myself as a solo person so this is a good time for the show to come in because it shows what goes on in my life without my parents.” It comes after Katie Price reaches out to Harvey’s lookalike half-brother but fears ‘he’s too scared’.

Junior, 20, added: “Obviously we’re going to be compared to our parents, they’ve done amazing things, that’s where we’ve come from, it’s inevitable. That’s natural. What we’re doing is focusing on ourselves and really driving and pushing our own careers and working hard. For us to succeed, we have to put in the work for it.”

Earlier today, the siblings stopped by ITV’s This Morning to chat about the show, which starts on Sunday. Opening up about her parents, Princess said that she is totally “independent” from dad Peter and mum Katie.

“I got older and a lot more things have come in for me solo,” she said. “A lot of things I used to do was with my parents and now I’m doing a show that is independent and actually focused on me. Now is the right time because my life is busy right now and I want people to see it.”

Earlier this week, Katie admitted that she was “very, very upset” by Princess’ career being managed by ex-husband Peter’s management and said that she will not be watching the reality show. Princess is managed by The CAN Group, who manages Peter and used to manage Katie.

“I’ve always said, over my dead body would I ever want her to manage my kids because she doesn’t like me and Pete and me don’t talk. I am very, very, very upset that Princess has signed with them when she was 16. I wasn’t asked to look at any contracts so I don’t know what Princess has signed because it’s all to do with that side,” she said.

Katie went onto claim that she has “not been allowed” to go on any of Princess’ photoshoots. “Why? Because I’m not allowed and I’m welcome,” she said on her podcast this week.

Earlier today, CAN Group responded to Katie’s claims, telling The Mirror that “duty of care” to their clients is paramount. They added: “We would never advise a client on their personal life unless asked and we have never stopped anyone seeing their families.”

Howe says he ‘can’t involve’ Isak at Newcastle – is there a way back?

Eddie Howe says it is “clear” that he “can’t involve” Alexander Isak at Newcastle United as things stand.

Newcastle rejected a £110m bid from Liverpool last week after the striker wanted to explore his options.

Isak missed Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia with a “minor thigh injury”, but the 25-year-old went on to train alone at former club Real Sociedad.

Howe previously warned no player could expect to act “poorly and train with group as normal”.

Howe has not closed the door on Isak one day representing Newcastle again – but the head coach stressed on Friday that the situation “had to be right for that to happen”.

“We’ve had discussions and it’s clear at the moment that we can’t involve him with the group,” he said after Newcastle’s 2-2 draw in a friendly against Espanyol. “I don’t know how long that will be for, but that’s the latest.”

Howe confirmed Isak, who has no current fitness issues, had not been disciplined.

But the Sweden international has been instructed to train at a later time to the rest of his team-mates in Newcastle.

“I’d want Alex to be playing today,” Howe added just eight days before the season opener at Aston Villa. “I’d want him training tomorrow. We would love the player to be with us.

Turbulent summer for Newcastle

A lot can change in two and a half months.

Isak was among those players celebrating in a jubilant huddle as the Champions League anthem played out at St James’ 76 days ago.

Newcastle had just secured their place at Europe’s top table and it felt like the club had real momentum going into the summer.

However, this has proved a frustrating window for Newcastle, who have missed out on Benjamin Sesko, Hugo Ekitike, Joao Pedro and James Trafford.

Then there is the Isak situation.

It fell to William Osula to play up front on Friday and Anthony Gordon, who is a winger by trade, is set to follow suit against Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Yet Isak’s absence, and a lack of signings, has not completely soured the mood on Tyneside.

Saturday’s friendly is a sell-out and, despite this game against Espanyol taking place less than 24 hours beforehand, there were still 30,782 fans present.

They already have an eye on what is to come.

What information do we collect from this quiz?

Ramsdale catches eye on debut

Newcastle clearly require further reinforcements to cope with the rigours of Europe, but a couple of new arrivals did still impress on Friday night.

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who joined on loan from Southampton, made his debut for the club while youngster Seung-soo Park played his first game at St James’ following his move from Suwon Samsung Bluewings.

One of Ramsdale’s first tasks of the night was to pick the ball out of the net after Edu Exposito put Espanyol in front with a long-range strike in the 17th minute.

But Newcastle responded.

Just a few minutes later, Lewis Miley’s scooped cross to the back post was met by the head of Matt Targett.

Espanyol had a chance to retake the lead after Targett brought down striker Roberto Fernandez inside the box just before half-time.

However, Ramsdale guessed right and kept out Espanyol captain Javier Puado’s spot-kick to loud cheers before Jacob Murphy put Newcastle in front after the break.

Ramsdale went on to make a fine save to deny former Blackburn Rovers winger Tyrhys Dolan late on.

Three or four signings are needed

Park, meanwhile, was lively down the left-hand side and the winger was applauded off the field after being taken off in the second half.

The South Korean may not have necessarily expected to be heavily involved with the first team so quickly, but Howe has had few options in a number of positions.

Take midfield, for instance.

Newcastle sold Sean Longstaff to Leeds United last month, while Joe Willock suffered a calf injury, which will keep the midfielder out for between four and six weeks.

Joelinton and Sandro Tonali were kept back for the visit of Atletico Madrid so it fell to Targett to fill in alongside captain Bruno Guimaraes and Miley.

Targett shifted back to his favoured position in the second half after youngster Alfie Harrison replaced Lewis Hall, who is continuing to build up his minutes after breaking a bone in his foot.

But this was a timely reminder that not only do Newcastle need a centre-back and at least one striker before the window shuts next month, but they also need another midfielder.

Otherwise there is the very real possibility that Howe will have to be creative and field players out of position over the course of the campaign.
