Germany, France, UK trigger process to reimpose sanctions on Iran

After a number of meetings failed to lead to an agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme, France, Germany, and the UK established a mechanism to reimpose sanctions on Iran.

Tehran has been warned for weeks by the three European countries by the acronym E3 that Iran’s 2015 nuclear agreement with major powers may be renewed in October.

A 30-day window is opened by the decision on Thursday for the reimposition of sanctions. This comes after an Iranian ministry of foreign affairs spokesman warned this week that a new round of sanctions would result.

Tehran has been accused of breaking the terms of the 2015 nuclear agreement, which required Iran to renounce its nuclear program in exchange for lifting international sanctions on its economy.

The “snapback” mechanism, which is a component of the nuclear deal, allows for immediate reimposition of sanctions if Iran is found to be violating the deal.

The foreign ministers of France, Germany, and Britain have all written in a letter to the UN Security Council on Thursday that “Iran has increasingly and deliberately ceased to fulfill its JCPoA commitments” since then.

They claimed that this included the accumulation of a high-enriched uranium stockpile, which is unprecedented for a state without a nuclear weapons program, and that it is unprecedented.

Abbas Araghchi, the country’s foreign minister, criticized the E3’s decision as “unjustified, illegal, and without any legal basis.”

Araghchi added that he hoped the European countries would “appropriately correct this wrong move in the coming days” and that Iran “will respond appropriately to protect and secure its national rights and interests.”

Implementing the plan would lead to a return to the extensive UN sanctions that existed prior to the 2015 deal, including a conventional arms embargo, restrictions on ballistic missile development, and asset freezes.

Gabriel Elizondo, a journalist for the UN in New York, argued that the E3 announcement was just the start of a process.

Elizondo said, “This does not mean the sanctions are lifted right away, and there is room for negotiations over the upcoming weeks, so] this could potentially be diplomatically resolved behind the scenes.”

Nuclear discussions

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei claimed on Tuesday that Iran had stated to Europeans that it had no authority to ratify the mechanism during a meeting in Geneva. Baghaei did, however, promise that nuclear negotiations would continue between the two parties.

Tehran’s deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, also stated in a social media post that the country remained committed to diplomacy following Tuesday’s discussions.

It’s time for the E3 and the UN Security Council to make the right decision, Gharibabadi wrote on X.

After Trump unilaterally withdrew from the Iranian nuclear deal in 2018, Iran had been steadily increasing its nuclear enrichment.

When Israel launched a massive bombing campaign against Iranian nuclear, military, and civilian sites in June, killing hundreds of people, the nation, which denies seeking a nuclear weapon, had been engaging in indirect discussions with the US over its nuclear program.

The Iranian government resisted all diplomatic efforts because Israel also launched attacks against Iranian targets.

Iranian and European officials rekindled discussions in July, but they have so far failed to reach a resolution.

The E3 foreign ministers announced on Thursday that they would offer to impose sanctions on Iran if it agreed to specific actions in a letter to the UN Security Council.

However, they claimed that Tehran “has not reengaged in negotiations with a view to reaching an acceptable diplomatic solution” and has not returned to meeting its obligations with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

However, Al Jazeera’s Diplomatic Editor James Bays noted that “Iran is the one who has been consistent throughout”the nuclear talks.

He explained that while the US has been changing its mind, Tehran has consistently stated that it wants a peaceful nuclear program rather than a nuclear weapon.

The US once said that a peaceful nuclear program was possible, before saying no, absolutely no. Then, of course, diplomacy was still in full swing when Israel attacked Iran, Bags said.

Iran has maintained a consistent position throughout the entire process, and the US consistently and unexpectedly changes its mind.

“Retaliation cycle”

The E3’s move, according to Sina Toossi, a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy, “sees less like a path to reviving cooperation than an escalation designed to force Iran into short-term concessions.”

For the Responsible Statecraft magazine, Toossi wrote, “It risks locking both sides into a cycle of pressure and retaliation without an offramp,”

Iran was just bombed while the table was being negotiated, and according to some, a deal was almost in hand. The role of an effective intermediary between the US, Israel, and Iran is now in Europe’s hands rather than an escalater.

Meanwhile, Iranians have expressed outrage over the E3’s plan to reimpose sanctions on the country, especially in light of the recent events that have occurred in Israel, according to Foad Izadi, a professor at the University of Tehran.

Izadi noted that some Iranian politicians have been urging the country to leave the world’s nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT), “because Iran faces international condemnation and penalties” regardless of what it does.

Playing for Wales ‘still burns’ for Ramsey – boss Bellamy

Aaron Ramsey’s selection for his Wales team’s September game against Kazakhstan and Canada, according to Craig Bellamy, was a mutual decision.

The 34-year-old hasn’t played for Wales in 12 months and has had the most injuries for the majority of the season.

Bellamy claims that Ramsey, who made his debut for his new club last weekend as a second-half substitute, still burns while playing for Wales. He has since joined Mexican top-flight side Pumas UNAM.

Scotland yet to peak before Fiji test – Easson

Scotland vs. Fiji in the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup

Salford Community Stadium Date: Saturday, August 30 Kick-off: 14:45 BST

Following their stunning opening victory over Wales, Scotland head coach Bryan Easson claims his team has not yet reached their peak as they prepare to face Fiji at the World Cup on Saturday.

The Scots defeated Wales last weekend with a superb six-try display in a game widely anticipated to be a close encounter to take control of their own destiny in Pool B.

Scotland could advance to the quarter-finals if they beat Fiji on Saturday in Salford, and Easson believes they can surpass their initial high benchmark set by their first encounter.

Everyone was “on top of their game,” Easson said, “but I think there is more in us.”

“We thought that we had also left out two or three chances after our review of the game.

Elis Martin in Scotland trainingSNS

Lana Skeldon, who was a doubt for the tournament due to an ankle injury, was replaced by Elis Martin, who made just one change to the starting XV last week.

Molly Wright is named as the Scots’ replacement hooker, which completely negates Skeldon’s chances of winning.

Following her stunning hat-trick against Wales, Francesca McGhie is now lining up on the left while Emma Orr, the other try-scorers, who are coached by Evie Gallagher, eighth-ranked Evie Gallagher, and scrum-half, retains their spots.

Adelle Ferrie and Anne Young, both in line for World Cup starts, are split six-two on the bench.

No. 8 Jade Konkel, who replaced Wales, is unmoved.

In their opening match, Fiji, who are 14th in the world, were defeated by Canada with a score of 65-7.

We’ve got to treat Fiji the same way we’ve treated Wales, according to Evansson.

They obviously have a southern hemisphere vibe. They clearly represent threats.

We are aware of their ability to offload, run hard, and they are also very physically fit, but they also have a northern hemisphere coach who has provided a little bit more structure.

Travis Kelce gave an unexpected answer when asked whether he would marry Katy Perry or Taylor Swift. Kelce and Swift confirmed their engagement in an Instagram post earlier this week, with the Love Story singer and Kansas City Chiefs player declaring: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

However, things could have worked out very differently, according to a 2016 interview featuring the NFL player which has resurfaced following the news. The NFL player spoke of his now-fiancée and two other singers years before he met The Tortured Poets Department star, and fans are astounded to hear what he had to say.

Fans are now joking Swift could use the interview to win any argument the couple may have in future. Kelce was asked who he would “kiss, marry, [or] kill” out of a list including Ariana Grande, Swift, and Perry, and he gave a surprising answer.

He declared, “That’s messed up. I’m not interested in killing any of them. I would murder, Ariana. Sadly, you’re no longer with me. Then Katy Perry and Taylor Swift would kiss each other.

Fans claim that the couple’s recent engagement, given Kelce and Swift’s engagement, is ironic. Many viewers left quick comments on the new TikTok video, which was a huge success.

If I were Taylor, I would bring this up at every argument. Another joke read, “Also, at least he didn’t say kill.” According to another, “To be fair, he didn’t know Taylor Swift at this point.”

A line from Swift’s song, So High School, is being speculated by some as being connected to the interview. The refrain “Are you going to marry, kiss, or kill me?” is in the song. (Kill me)”.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, did Taylor say, “We’re going to marry, kiss, or kill me,” a fan questioned. from the interview”? She then reportedly wrote this interview into a song, according to another.

Kate Perry hasn’t said a word since their engagement was revealed, according to another joker.

Swifties from all over the world were delighted when the pair’s engagement was revealed, and they all reacted with surprise when it was confirmed via Twitter.

People are ecstatic to see the caption of Swift’s and her NFL player fiancee’s joint post, which is believed to have begun dating in the summer of 2023.

Some even speculated that this Instagram caption may be the worst ever. Your English teacher and your gym instructor are getting married, according to Swift’s Instagram caption.

Reimagined Glasgow Games will have ‘wow factor’

Images courtesy of Getty

Following a successful visit to Scotland, the authorities responsible for assessing preparations for the upcoming summer’s event claim that Glasgow’s redesigned Commonwealth Games format will still have “a wow factor.”

Due to Glasgow’s decision to implement a rescue plan last year after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew, the event will be on a smaller scale than when it was last held in the city in 2014, where medals were won in 17 sports over 11 days.

However, the Commonwealth Sport Coordination Commission (CoCom) are confident that the 10-sport Games will be an “almost brilliant” event in addition to meeting the bid’s scope, schedule, and budget.

They leave after a number of “candid conversations,” with the conclusion that the Games, scheduled for from July 23 to August 2 in 2026, will be a success.

CoCom chair Chris Chan told BBC Sport Scotland, “People might anticipate something akin to Glasgow 2014, but we must fulfill those expectations.”

“This Games will be brief and sweet, and lean and mean.”

We must remind Commonwealth nations and athletes that there is still the same wow factor that we experienced in 2014. I’m also completely persuaded that everything is on track with the organising committee after speaking with them.

3, 000 athletes from 74 countries and territories will compete in the Games, which will be the biggest sporting event to take place in the UK in 2019 and will result in more than 200 medals being won in 50 competition sessions.

According to the organizers, “tens of thousands” of people have requested more information, with tickets going on sale in October.

There is no denying that Scotland has stepped up in a very brave way to confront the Olympic problem and find solutions and an innovative model, according to Commonwealth Sport’s Dr. Donald Rukare.

Sutton’s predictions v The Cut star Orlando Bloom and AI

The premier league’s pick of the matches is Liverpool vs. Arsenal on Sunday (16:30 BST), which will be the winner of the other fixtures.

BBC Sport football expert Chris Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this season, against AI, BBC Sport readers and a variety of guests.

He has won the season’s first two weekends, but he has stressed to BBC Sport this week that he doesn’t want readers and viewers to feel as though they have already lost. I don’t want AI to become disillusioned.

” I’ve had an incredible start to the season and made it look easy but this could be the week where the wheels come off. “

He squares off against Manchester United supporter class=”ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3″>Orlando Bloom for week three.

Bloom’s new film The Cut is in UK and Irish cinemas from 5 September.

Do you concur with their evaluations? You can make your own predictions below.

The tables and scoreboards at the bottom of this page feature the most widely used scoreline for each game.

The Cut star Orlando Bloom The Cut

Bloom claims that because of his neighbors, he was born in Kent, that he was raised as a United fan.

” This Irish family we lived next door to, the McEvoys, were all big United fans so we watched all their games together, “Bloom told BBC Sport.

I miss living in the United States now. I still love watching games when I can but what I think I love most is the way football brings people together.

I attended Oasis in Manchester in July, and a big game is exactly the same, like church worship, and I adore that feeling.

In the film, Bloom plays a retired boxer who undergoes a gruelling training and weight-loss routine to return to the ring for one last shot at the title.

The movie is really about an athlete’s psychology, which I find fascinating in every sport because of its “leave it all on the field” mentality, he continued.

“That’s how I like to live a little bit myself – I thrive off a challenge, physical or mental… which is why I am taking Chris on at predictions”.

Orlando Bloom spoke with Chris Bevan of BBC Sport.

Chris Sutton was speaking to BBC Sport’s Joe Rindl.

Premier League predictions

What information do we collect from this quiz?

Chelsea looked lacklustre in their opener against Crystal Palace but then thrashed West Ham 5-1. How can you honestly evaluate anyone who has played West Ham, in your opinion?

My gut feeling is Chelsea will have got a great deal of confidence from the manner in which they beat the Hammers last week.

Under Marco Silva, I like Fulham, but their style of play has potential to trouble Chelsea.

But I still think the Blues will come out on top in this West London derby.

Sutton’s prediction: 2-1

Orlando’s prediction: Chelsea are the favourites for this. 1-2-1

What information do we collect from this quiz?

I haven’t got a clue with this one, nothing would surprise me. Although I don’t believe there will be many goals in this game, Manchester United must surely make a statement to respond?

It’s a bad week for United. In the first half, Grimsby played them off the park, and they ultimately suffered humiliation. I know Ruben Amorim made eight changes but he threw the big guns on in the end and you don’t know what sort of impact that loss will have across the club.

Amorim is probably under a lot of pressure now, in my opinion.

Burnley will be stubborn and resolute, and they do carry an attacking threat. Manchester United: Will they find a way? Something’s telling me to pick United to win but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Burnley embarrassed them.

Sutton’s prediction: 1-0

Orlando’s prediction: This might be closer than people think. 1- 1-0

What information do we collect from this quiz?

Sunderland had that brilliant start against West Ham and they had a tight game with Burnley. Although I anticipated a draw, Burnley triumphed in the end.

Brentford played very well at Aston Villa and deserved their win in what was a massive result for Keith Andrews.

Brentford is a veteran, battle-tested Premier League side, as I’ve already said before. I think their win last week would’ve done them the world of good. On Saturday, they should prevail.

Sutton’s prediction: 0-1

No goals here, according to Orlando’s prediction. 0-0

What information do we collect from this quiz?

This game will be fantastic. Bournemouth were excellent against Wolves last weekend and were unlucky to only win 1-0. Because of this, I always think they can score because they have always been an attacking threat.

But then Thomas Frank’s Tottenham have been so well balanced. They have so far been outstanding.

As for Richarlison, I was told by statman Dave not to get him in my Fantasy Team. He started out brilliantly, scoring two goals and adding one assist, and I didn’t put him in.

At home, I fancy Tottenham to nick it.

Sutton’s prediction: 2-1

Tottenham will win, according to Orlando’s prediction. 1-2-1

What information do we collect from this quiz?

This is a big match for Wolves. Vitor Pereira needs a result.

Last season, Pereira did a good job with them, in my opinion. They have lost Matheus Cunha, of course. However, Manchester City and Bournemouth both had man down, and both were completely destroyed.

I do worry about Everton, especially in the centre-forward area. Thierno Barry might come to prominence, but 27 million won’t make you a top-notch striker these days and he still needs to develop.

That said, if there’s a motivated Jack Grealish then Everton have a really good chance. He excelled in the match against Brighton. It’s good to see him back playing football with a smile on his face.

Should be a draw.

Sutton’s prediction: 1-1

Orlando’s prediction: Jack Grealish’s signing is incredibly exciting. 0-2

What information do we collect from this quiz?

Fantastic performance by Newcastle against Liverpool. But my worry for them is this: Sandro Tonali and Joelinton both went off injured last match and those two in midfield are an absolute force. I’m not sure what their removal will mean for the team.

Leeds lost 5-0 to Arsenal. They slammed against. Well beaten. But will Elland Road offer something different? They played with such great intensity in their opening game against Everton.

Really, this one needs an asterisk. If Tonali and Joelinton are fit, which I don’t think will be, then Newcastle should win. However, as a BBC predictions expert, I am now extremely vulnerable because I don’t have all the data!

With Anthony Gordon also suspended, I’m going for a draw, purely based on the fact that Newcastle won’t have any players.

Sutton’s prediction: 1-1

Orlando’s prediction: I anticipate Leeds receiving some benefits. 1 – 1 –

Sunday, 31 August

What information do we collect from this quiz?

Which Manchester City side will we see? I mentioned last week on Football Focus and Final Score that I was concerned about James Trafford’s goalkeeping situation. I don’t think he should be playing ahead of Ederson, even if there is talk of Ederson leaving.

Brighton should have won their opening game against Fulham, but they didn’t, and they lost to Everton despite having a few chances.

This match could be anything. Because Brighton away is a challenging match, I believe we’ll learn a lot about Manchester City and whether they can challenge them.

Last season I backed City on so many occasions saying they’d bounce back. After they exactly the opposite and continued on a bad run, I had so many wrong predictions.

There’s a strong chance I’ll be wrong again, wouldn’t be the first time, but I’m going to revert back to last season’s technique and say City will pinch this.

Sutton’s prediction: 1-2

Orlando’s prediction: Brighton beat City last season and they can cause them more problems this time. 2-2-2

What information do we collect from this quiz?

It’s been a good start to the season for Nottingham Forest despite all of their off-the-pitch turbulence. They did a great job against Brentford in their first game last week, coming from behind at Crystal Palace, and they did draw.

West Ham look flimsy and were knocked out of the League Cup in midweek. Potter is in great demand. Potter needs to wave his magic wand!

West Ham is a real source of my concern. I think the West Ham fans have had enough already and we’re not even in September yet. After their cup defeat, Jarrod Bowen attempted to confront some Hammers fans, but he was unsuccessful. He later apologised.

This one should be comfortably won by Forest.

Sutton’s prediction: 2-0

Orlando’s prediction: Forest will win at home. 2-0

What information do we collect from this quiz?

My worry with Liverpool is exactly what Arne Slot talked about in pre-season. They are too vulnerable defensively.

They’ve already conceded four goals. In the previous two games, Ibrahima Konate has been everywhere and looks torn apart. He’s been a great player in the past for Liverpool but right now he looks like a triallist.

If you support Liverpool, I suppose the good news is that they are still achieving results. But if you want to win league titles you’ve got to be watertight and strong at the back, and I’m not so sure Liverpool are.

Newcastle bullied Liverpool. There’s no reason why Arsenal can’t bully them too. I have a sneaky suspicion that Arsenal will exploit them, especially with Eberechi Eze’s recent signing.

Sutton’s prediction: 1-2

Orlando’s prediction: This will have a few goals. 3-2

What information do we collect from this quiz?

I’m really worried about my old club Aston Villa, their performance against Brentford last weekend was so insipid and so flat. They are completely uninterested.

We know the way Villa play. They will play out from the back, and it is very possession-focused. Crystal Palace will mix their game up but I’ve just got a feeling that Villa will finally turn up in this one.

Plus, I’m not sure how Crystal Palace will be affected by Eze’s departure. They coped in a one-off game with Nottingham Forest last week but long-term they’re going to suffer from that loss of creativity.

Even without Eze, I believe Palace are still a strong team, but I’m hoping Villa will put together a strong performance. If they don’t, then fans will start getting really concerned.

Sutton’s 3-1 prediction

Orlando’s prediction: This is going to be close. 1 – 1 –

What did Sutton do last week?

Just like in the first week, Chris was the winner in week two after getting six correct results and three correct scores, giving him an impressive 150 points.

With five correct answers and two exact scores, AI came in second, earning 110 points.

The BBC readers came third – you got five correct results and one exact score, giving you 80 points.
