Elon Musk launches the America Party as feud with Trump escalates

Billionaire Elon Musk has followed through on his pledge to create a new political party in the United States after President Donald Trump signed his controversial budget legislation, the so-called “One Big, Beautiful Bill”, into law.

Musk in a post on X on Saturday declared the formation of the “America Party“, to “give back” the people of the US their freedom and challenge what he called the nation’s “one-party system”.

He cited a poll, uploaded on Friday – the US’s Independence Day – in which he asked whether respondents “want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system” that has dominated US politics for some two centuries.

The yes-or-no survey earned more than 1. 2 million responses.

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! ” Musk wrote on Saturday.

“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” he declared.

The move comes amid a worsening of the feud between the world’s richest man and Trump over the new budget law, which the Tesla and SpaceX CEO said would bankrupt the US.

Musk was Trump’s main campaign financier during the 2024 election, and led the Department of Government Efficiency from the start of the president’s second term, aimed at slashing government spending.

The two have since fallen out spectacularly over disagreements about the “Big, Beautiful Bill”.

Musk said previously that he would start a new political party and spend money to unseat lawmakers who supported the bill, which experts say will pile an extra $3. 4 trillion over a decade onto the US deficit.

“They will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” Musk had said.

There was no immediate comment from Trump or the White House on Musk’s announcement.

Trump earlier this week threatened to cut off the billions of dollars in subsidies that Musk’s companies receive from the federal government, and to deport the South African-born tycoon.

“We’ll have to take a look,” the president told reporters when asked if he would consider deporting Musk, who has held US citizenship since 2002.

It is not clear how much impact the new party will have on the 2026 mid-term elections, or on the presidential vote two years after that.

On Friday, after posting the poll, Musk laid out a possible political battle plan to pick off vulnerable House of Representatives and Senate seats, and for the party to become “the deciding vote” on key legislation.

“One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts,” Musk posted on X.

All 435 US House seats are up for grabs every two years, while about one-third of the Senate’s 100 members, who serve six-year terms, are elected every two years.

Brooklyn Beckham feels he ‘doesn’t fit into family’ as Harper’s ‘heartbroken’ over rift

As it looks like Brooklyn Beckham will be a no-show for Harper’s 14th birthday this week, a source explains why his loyalties are split between his family and his wife Nicola Peltz

It’s celebration time again in the Beckham household this week, but one particular member of the once tightknit family is expected not to be joining in the fun. Harper, the youngest of David and Victoria’s children, turns 14 on Thursday and a source claimed that, with talk of the family feud escalating further, Brooklyn is expected to be missing from the Beckhams’ festivities once again.

Talk of tensions between Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz with his mum and dad started in 2022 around the time of Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding – and there are no signs of it ending any time soon. Brooklyn, 26, spent a recent weekend celebrating the birthday of Nicola’s billionaire dad, who she called “most loving father”, just a few weeks after missing his own dad’s star-studded 50th bash at Notting Hill restaurant, Core.

Our source said that while the family fallout is mainly between Brooklyn and his parents, his younger siblings – including birthday girl Harper – have sadly become collateral damage.

“Harper’s been particularly affected by what’s going on because she’s always been really close to Brooklyn,” claimed the source. “They’ve always had a lovely bond because Brooklyn was that bit older when Harper was born and the hope when Brooklyn married Nicola was that she’d become like a big sister to Harper in a house full of brothers.

“But obviously that hasn’t happened and it’s potentially going to be heartbreaking for Harper if Brooklyn doesn’t show up for her on her birthday. ”

As Brooklyn and his model and actress wife celebrated financier Nelson Peltz’s 83rd birthday with Nicola’s family in Bedford, New York, Victoria, 51, and David, 50, were back at home in the UK.

Nicola, 30, later posted a snap to her social media of herself with her dad and Brooklyn, and wrote a gushing tribute to Nelson which said, “I am so lucky to be your daughter, you’re the most loving and supportive father I could ever dream of… Thank you for always being there for us – our constant love and support. ”

If Brooklyn fails to acknowledge his little sister’s birthday in any significant way, it will become the latest in a string of family events that have so far failed to repair the Beckham rift. After missing David’s pre-birthday celebrations in the Cotswolds and Paris, Brooklyn and Nicola were also absent from his star-studded dinner party at the Michelin-starred west London restaurant.

David was joined by some of his closest showbiz pals, including Tom Cruise, Eva Longoria and Guy Ritchie, and was treated to a performance by son Cruz, 20, on his guitar, while Romeo, 22, was tasked with the job of carrying in David’s cake.

Given that Brooklyn also failed to acknowledge his father’s big milestone on any of his social media channels, our source claimed the chances of him “showing up for Harper” are looking pretty slim.

“A teenage birthday is a big deal for any child and in the past they’ve always tried to do things together as a family,” said the source. “Victoria would like nothing more than for Brooklyn to show up to celebrate with them all, but it’s not looking likely at all.

“He took a stand and missed his dad’s 50th so he’s not likely to suddenly do a U-turn and forget everything that’s happened, as much as he loves Harper. But if he did, it could a much-needed olive branch to start repairing things. An end to the family drama would be the best birthday present Harper – and her parents – could ask for. ”

There’s been plenty of family affection flying around on the Beckhams’ social media channels – just none from Brooklyn directed towards his own parents. He appeared to twist the knife further when he posted a birthday tribute to Nelson, after snubbing his own father’s special day.

Last month, Brooklyn also publicly marked the five-year anniversary of his marriage proposal to Nicola, saying it was his “best decision ever”. Our source claimed it’s becoming increasingly obvious that Brooklyn’s loyalties don’t lie with his parents and siblings, but adds that it isn’t surprising given he is now married.

“He didn’t want it to turn out this way and he’s always been really close to all his siblings, but he is a married man now and his priorities have to lie somewhere else,” said the source.

“He just doesn’t feel his family have treated Nicola well and now that he’s grown so close to her family in the States, he doesn’t really feel like he fits into the Beckham family right now. If Harper’s wish is to have her brother at home for her big day, sadly, she’s probably going to be disappointed. ”

Made In Chelsea star ‘doesn’t recognise herself’ since leaving show

Former Made In Chelsea castmate Jessica Woodley opens up about her pregnancy journey – and swapping the show’s dramas for a quiet life in ‘magical’ Ireland with her filmmaker partner

Jessica’s life is a million miles away now from the posh Chelsea set(Image: Instagram)

Former Made In Chelsea star Jessica Woodley no longer recognises the version of herself that appeared on the E4 show about London’s exclusive social set a decade ago. Now aged 30, the reality star-turned-sculptor says she’s more self-aware and, as she prepares to become a mother for the first time, feels ‘‘more power as a woman”.

Jessica, who joined the reality series in 2015 — and dated Jamie Laing before quitting in 2017 — revealed last month that she was expecting a baby with her filmmaker partner, Mark Logan. Chatting exclusively to OK! from the Irish countryside they now call home, Jessica explains why life has changed so dramatically for her…

Jessica! Congratulations on your pregnancy. How have you been?

Thank you! My first trimester was tricky, and I am definitely experiencing nausea, even at 28 weeks, but it’s all teaching me newfound resilience. I feel like I’m gaining strength throughout this pregnancy. It can be hard at times, physically and emotionally, but Mark is so supportive. I don’t know if I could do this without him.

Have you always wanted to have kids?

Article continues below

I always hoped to be a mother. I wouldn’t say we were trying to get pregnant, but we were delighted. Pleasantly surprised. From that moment on, I’ve felt quite high.

Have you had any unusual cravings?

Salt and vinegar crisps are getting me through. And I love Medjool dates, they are heaven on earth. I also make masala chai every morning. It really warms my stomach, and actually soothes the nausea. I’m doing yoga and a bit of Pilates. And our dog, Bloom, gets me outside.

What kind of mum do you hope to be?

I’m very aware that this child is going to be my teacher, I really respect that we learn a lot from children. I’m excited by this feeling of nurture — it’s so strong. I worry less now, too, and I used to be such a worrier. I’d come up with hypothetical worries, make up scenarios in my head, and then get scared. I’ve learned how to self-regulate, and I hope that will help me as a mum.

How did you meet Mark? Was there an instant connection?

The second I met Mark, I felt like I remembered him. Like I had met him before, like he was already my best friend. I think I’d been searching for him for quite a long time. We both believe in devotion. So I’ve found love brings you together, but devotion keeps you together. I didn’t see him coming, but I am so glad he’s here.

And how has Mark been throughout your pregnancy so far?

He’s been so supportive and bought me all the salt and vinegar crisps I desire! He’s really cheeky and funny, which has helped me so much. Laughter has helped me and continues to help me. We’re living in Ireland now — initially I was nervous to move to another country, but I find Irish people quite magical, and it just feels right being here.

It’s quite a transformation from your Made In Chelsea days…

You know, I feel very grateful for that period of time because if it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t have experienced solitude to the degree I did, and I wouldn’t have looked inside myself as much as I did. I’m really thankful for that time I perceived as difficult, but now I perceive as a gift. I actually don’t recognise myself any more. I’m less ignorant, I am more self-aware, and I have a deeper understanding. I feel much more in my power as a woman than I did then.

Do you keep in touch with any Made In Chelsea cast members?

I speak to Alex Mytton, I think he’s an angel, he’s just fab. And I sometimes speak to Jamie Laing, that’s it. We haven’t spoken since the pregnancy announcement [Jamie and his wife Sophie Habboo recently revealed they are expecting a baby], but I can’t wait to talk to him.

Would you ever do reality TV again?

I wouldn’t say no. If it was in alignment with where I’m at, then yeah, maybe…

How has it been navigating pregnancy at the same time as launching your sculpture collection, Gliffy?

We were really focusing on Gliffy and then I found out I was pregnant, and we were like, “This is actually really beautiful. ” It’s amazing to have these two things that I care about so much come about at the same time. I was slightly nervous about it, because I thought, “Oh, is the timing incorrect? Is this going to get in the way of anything? ” But actually, it’s been the total opposite. I found that they really complement each other, because my collection was kind of about the inner child, and it felt like my baby.

How did your journey into making sculptures start?

I would say I started this journey of self-discovery and self-inquiry in lockdown, because, like a lot of people, I was forced to be alone. I had to figure out what it was that made me happy and made me feel good, and it forced me into solitude.

I found that there was something inside me that was really childlike and playful, and I was suppressing that. I was really lucky to come in contact with an artist, and I was really inspired by the fact that this person was using their imagination to create form in the real world. I was like, “Yeah, I want to try that.” Having to overcome the fear of not knowing what I’m doing and the fear of failure was interesting. That in itself was a journey.

Woman spots Gucci bag in charity shop and is floored by price tag

A woman popped into her local charity store and spotted a Gucci bag on display in a glass cabinet alongside some jewellery but was amazed after clocking how much it was being sold for

Charity shops are a firm favourite among fashion lovers looking for designer and sustainable options for less (stock image)(Image: SolStock/Getty Images)

A woman got lucky after spotting a Gucci bag in a charity shop for an absolute steal. Gucci is a prominent, world renowned, luxury design house founded in Italy in 1921. It offers an array of handbags, clothing and accessories, shoes and even home decoration.

Gucci also boasts a fragrance and cosmetics line under the name Gucci Beauty. Typically, the luxury retailer’s bag prices vary. The brand’s Ophidia mini bag, crafted in beige and white GG Supreme canvas, is currently priced at £610 to purchase directly from its website, for example.

On the higher end of the spectrum, its Diana medium tote bag – which comes in six colours and is constructed in leather – is available for £3,170.

Vintage Gucci bags can be especially expensive, particularly if they’re from a limited edition release or rare. On eBay, a limited edition Gucci Crocodile Bag is available from £24,086.72.

Many bargain hunting fashion lovers turn to charity shops on the hunt for stylish clothing and accessories at a fraction of the cost.

Those looking to make more sustainable fashion choices and avoid buying fast fashion similarly visit charity and secondhand shops when looking to pad out their wardrobes.

There’s plenty of options available which allow people to shop for less while supporting a good cause, or simply snap up some much needed bargains while the cost of living continues to rise.

Discount chain store Goodwill boasts more than 150 outlets across the United States and Canada, where it offers bargain hunters “hundreds of thousands of unique items up for grabs at any given time, including art, books, vinyl records, clothing, home décor, jewellery, musical instruments, sports, toys, and more”.

One woman ventured into her local Goodwill store in northern California and was amazed after spotting a Gucci bag for sale.

It wasn’t on the shop floor with the rest of the items, it was alongside the jewellery in a glass display case which led the woman to deduce “it was real”.

There are many fake copies of designer goods often sold as though they’re the real deal. If you’re buying a designer item from a secondhand source, make sure you have it authenticated before splashing the cash.

The woman shared her Gucci find on Facebook with the caption “Gucci crossbody found at Goodwill today”, where she declared the bag to be a genuine Gucci number after the serial number was checked.

It was on offer for just $49. 99 (£36. 82) but as the woman is a “regular” client, they allowed her to have a slight discount and sold it to her for $44. 99 (£33. 13).

Today’s horoscope for July 6 as Cancer is warned to choose their battles wisely

Today’s horoscope for July 6 sees one star sign encourage to leave others with their negativity on their own, while another has been told to try to avoid causing tension

Find out what’s written in the stars with our astrologer Russell Grant(Image: Daily Record/GettyImages)

It’s Sunday, July 6, and one star sign has been warned to choose their battles wisely and approach situations with caution and understanding.

There are 12 zodiac signs – Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces – and the horoscopes for each can give you the lowdown on what your future holds, be it in work, your love life, your friends and family or more.

These daily forecasts have been compiled by astrologer Russell Grant, who has been reading star signs for over 50 years. From Aries through to Pisces, here’s what today could bring for your horoscope – and what you can do to be prepared.

Aries (Mar 21 – Apr 20)

If anyone in your life is being pessimistic and difficult, leave them to deal with their negativity on their own. There is absolutely no reason why you should paste on a smile and continue to try to please them. Instead do something that makes you happy.

Taurus (Apr 21 – May 21)

A close relationship or friendship will be influenced by the opinions of housemates and relatives. Someone who cares for you may point out the flaws in a friendship and although you don’t want to listen, it’s important to consider their concerns.

Gemini (May 22 – June 21)

It’s a great day to meet up with people on the same wavelength and to choose activities you enjoy. Think about making it a full-day outing. Whether it’s hiking, spending time at the beach or even running a marathon, choose whatever brings you joy.

Cancer (June 22 – July 23)

You’ve always been very sensitive and you may need to take care not to take things too personally today. If you’re upset about anything, talk to your partner or a close friend and together you will resolve the problem. Choose your battles wisely and approach situations with caution and understanding.

Leo (July 24 – Aug 23)

You could find yourself asking for a friend’s perspective on issues you are facing at work. Their advice will be worth considering. Trust in your abilities. If you have been offered a higher position, you have the potential to be an effective and productive manager.

Virgo (Aug 24 – Sept 23)

Get talking with someone you usually avoid or see regularly but don’t know very well. Someone who is sitting next to you on the bus or train could become a good friend. Approach these conversations with an open mind. You could learn something interesting.

Libra (Sept 24 – Oct 23)

You will get your chance to treat yourself to something special without feeling guilty about it. Whether it is through a bonus, recent raise or monetary gift, things are looking up. Just remember to think carefully before making any additional spontaneous purchases.

Scorpio (Oct 24 – Nov 22)

In order to keep the atmosphere harmonious, you will need to be kind to your neighbours and colleagues. Try to avoid causing any tension. Show a loved one some appreciation by treating them to something they enjoy. They need a day without conflict and so do you.

Sagittarius (Nov 23 – Dec 21)

You and an adventurous friend could get talking about planning a holiday overseas. You need a break and visiting an exciting destination rich in history and beautiful scenery will sound ideal. Check your passport is up to date. Look into current travel deals.

Capricorn (Dec 22 – Jan 20)

Your past hardworking efforts are finally being recognised. Some people may have questioned your skills or doubted your ability to succeed. They now will admit they were wrong. You have accomplished the difficult tasks you set for yourself and your victory is well-deserved.

Aquarius (Jan 21 – Feb 19)

There is plenty of opportunity to get out and about and yet you might prefer the comfort of your home. Household tasks require your attention and time feels limited. Also, a relative could do with some advice. Take this chance to strengthen bonds with someone special.

Iran’s Khamenei makes first public appearance since war with Israel

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has attended a religious ceremony in Tehran, making his first public appearance since the 12 days of conflict between Israel and Iran.

The 85-year-old leader appeared in a video aired by state media on Saturday, which showed dozens of people attending an event at a mosque to mark Ashura, the holiest day of the Shia Muslim calendar.

In the footage, Khamenei is seen waving and nodding to the chanting crowd, which rose to its feet as he entered the mosque.

State TV said the clip was filmed at the Imam Khomeini Mosque in central Tehran.

Khamenei has avoided public appearances since the start of the fighting on June 13, and his speeches have all been prerecorded.

The United States, which joined in the Israeli attacks by bombing three key nuclear sites in Iran on June 22, had sent warnings to Khamenei, with US President Donald Trump saying on social media that Washington knew where the Iranian leader was, but had no plans to kill him, “at least for now”.

On June 26, in prerecorded remarks aired on state television, Khamenei rejected Trump’s calls for Iran’s surrender, and said Tehran had delivered a “slap to America’s face” by striking a US airbase in Qatar

Trump replied, in remarks to reporters and on social media: “Look, you’re a man of great faith. A man who’s highly respected in his country. You have to tell the truth. You got beat to hell. ”

Iran has acknowledged that more than 900 people were killed in the war, as well as thousands injured. Iran’s retaliatory missile attacks on Israel killed at least 28 people there.

The ceasefire between the two countries  took hold on June 24.

Since then, Iran has confirmed serious damage to its nuclear facilities, and denied access to them for inspectors from the United Nations’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The IAEA’s inspectors had stayed in the Iranian capital throughout the fighting, even as Israel attacked Iranian military sites and killed several of the country’s most senior commanders and top scientists, as well as hundreds of civilians.

However, they left after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a law suspending cooperation with the IAEA on Wednesday.

IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi on Friday stressed “the crucial importance” of dialogue with Iran to resume monitoring and verification work of its nuclear programme as soon as possible.

Iran was holding talks with the US on its nuclear programme when Israel launched its attacks. The US has been seeking a new agreement after Trump pulled the US out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which Tehran signed with world powers in 2015.
