England call in police over racist abuse of Carter

After defender Jess Carter claimed she had been “a lot of racial abuse” during Euro 2025, England are collaborating with police.

The Lionesses said in a statement on Sunday that they would stop making racist gestures before games because it was “clear we and football need to find another way to combat racism.”

Carter vowed to stop using social media, adding that she would.

The Football Association stated that it was “working with police to bring this hate crime to justice”

Carter, 27, said, “I have been subjected to a lot of racial abuse since the beginning of the tournament.

“While I believe that every fan has a right to their opinion on performance and results, I don’t believe it’s appropriate to criticize someone’s race or appearance.

Lotte Wubben-Moy, an England teammate, stated that she would also be leaving social media.

Carter was a member of the Euro 2022 winning squad, who made her England debut in 2017 and has 49 caps.

Prior to joining Gotham FC last summer, she won five Women’s Super League titles with Chelsea and began her career at Birmingham City.

The racist abuse directed at Jess Carter is heartbreaking and outrageous, the US National Women’s Soccer League side stated in a statement.

Jessica is a role model, leader, and a valued member of our Gotham FC family in addition to her world-class football skills.

The Lionesses and England’s Football Association support Jess, and we firmly believe that.

Abuse and discrimination should never be tolerated, according to Uefa, the governing body of European football. “In any situation, whether in football or society, in person or online, please.

Racial abuse in women’s football is not a new phenomenon.

After having a difficult experience in the opening game defeat by France, Carter has switched positions from left-back to centre-back in the absence of a smooth tournament. He has started every game for England in defence.

The inconsistentness of England’s defensive unit has been a source of controversy for a number of months, and Carter also faced difficult circumstances in their quarter-final against Sweden, which the Lionesses won on a penalty shootout after coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.

After that game, she received racial abuse on social media, which is not unusual for women’s football.

Forward Lauren James was verbally abused similarly against her during the 2023 Women’s World Cup because of her standing in front of Nigerian forward Michelle Alozie in their final-16 victory.

Following a WSL defeat by Arsenal in December 2023, James’ club Chelsea issued a statement condemning it.

In response to such abuse, the Lionesses have frequently sided with one another, and Carter, the Football Association, and some of her team-mates had to make a player-led decision on Sunday to bring the matter up again.

Esme Morgan was pushed for a starting spot after a strong performance in the win over Sweden, but Carter’s place in the team was uncertain for Tuesday’s semi-final against Italy.

Marc Marquez wins Czech GP as brother crashes

Marc Marquez won the Czech Grand Prix for the fifth time in a row to increase his position at the top of the standings.

Marquez, 32, who also won the Saturday sprint race, is now 120 points clear of his younger brother Alex, who was involved in a car accident while he was competing.

After the incident was reviewed by stewards after the race, Alex Marquez collided with Joan Mir and received a long lap penalty that he will serve at the Austrian Grand Prix after the summer break.

A rider must follow a longer designated route around the track section, which adds a few seconds to their lap time, as a result of a long lap penalty.

Francesco Bagnaia, a two-time champion, won the race for the first time in his first pole position of the season before falling to third after Marco Bezzecchi and Marc Marquez overtook him.

Jorge Martin, the reigning champion, made his first appearance in the sport since April with a string of broken bones. He was seventh.

Queen legend Freddie Mercury’s six-word question before making sweet gesture to music icon

When the two musicians first met in Tokyo, electronic legend Gary Numan has written a touching tale about the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

Freddie Mercury, the legendary frontman of Queen, once posed a “darling” six-word question to another music superstar before making a thoughtful gesture at a party in Japan. Gary Numan, the electro pioneer behind hits like ‘Are ‘Friends’ Electric?’ and ‘Cars’, shared a touching anecdote about Freddie’s kindness when they crossed paths in Tokyo.

The 67-year-old Tubeway Army frontman described how the iconic rock band threw a “big party” at a sushi restaurant following their concert. However, there was one hitch for Gary: he didn’t care for the Japanese speciality.

But this didn’t go unnoticed by the considerate Freddie, who approached Gary to check on him. This led to a brief conversation between the two musicians and the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ star making a food-related gesture.

Gary, a journalist for the Mail’s You magazine, told Tom Parker-Bowles, “I once saw Queen play in Tokyo, and they had a big party there afterwards.” Except for me, everyone is eating and sitting down. Sushi is not my thing. “

He continued: “Freddie Mercury comes over and says, ‘Darling, why are you not eating?’ I say I’m perfectly all right, and just so happy to be here at this cool evening. Freddie then organised his security man to go out and pick up a McDonald’s.”

Summing up his story, Gary added that he proceeded to eat his McDonald’s in the Tokyo sushi restaurant, “ordered by Freddie Mercury”, and it would be the last thing he “ever ate in Japan”.

Although it is said that he didn’t really enjoy eating good food, Freddie, who tragically passed away on November 24, 1991, was a fan.

Born Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar, now part of Tanzania, to Parsi-Indian parents, Freddie retained a lifelong affection for Parsi dishes, as reported by Far Out Magazine. His favourite was chicken dhansak, a classic Parsi recipe combining lentils, vegetables, and typically goat or chicken.

In a heartwarming revelation from 2019, it was discovered that Freddie’s spirit of giving lived on through his will, which instructed that a festive hamper from Fortnum and Mason be sent annually to his close friends and godchildren, with the bill charged to his estate.

We do believe it to be a lovely gesture, according to a store representative who spoke to MailOnline. “

Freddie’s incredible generosity was also mentioned by Elton John, who recalled how the ailing singer gave him a watercolor painting that was presented in a “beautiful pillowcase.”

He continued, “It was really moving. He was still thinking about his friends even though he was in his last days. It’s still there, and I still have the pillowcase next to my bed.

SERAP, Others Sue FG Over Non-Release Of NDDC Forensic Audit Report

The government of President Bola Tinubu has filed a lawsuit against it for failing to release the findings of the forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The project is named in a lawsuit filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project and four concerned Nigerians.

Kolawole Oluwadare, SERAP’s deputy director, made this known in a statement released on Sunday.

He claimed that the agency’s top officials and politicians were at fault for the N6 trillion disappearance between 2001 and 2019 due to the forensic audit.

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, claimed the wife of a former minister received $48 billion over the course of 12 months to “train Niger Delta women.”

Prince Taiwo Aiyedatiwa, Chief Jude Igbogifurotogu Pulemote, Ben Omietimi Tariye, and Princess Elizabeth Egbe are the defendants in the lawsuit.

The plaintiffs filed a petition last Friday in Abuja before the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, and are requesting “a declaration that the Nigerian government’s failure to publish the NDDC forensic report constitutes a fundamental violation of the country’s international human rights obligations.”

The plaintiff requests “an order directing and compelling the Nigerian government to adopt and ensure effective measures to address transparency and accountability gaps in the spending of public funds budgeted for the NDDC” and “an order directing and compelling the government to publish and ensure access to information to the NDDC forensic report that has been submitted to the government but has been shrouded in secrecy.

The NDDC forensic report found no evidence that the Nigerian government had violated our constitutional right to know the truth about the corruption allegations.

The report’s publication obstructs impunity and conceals the allegations made in the report.

The public’s right to free access to information and information about what governments are doing on their behalf contributes to their assertion that government participation would remain fragmented and illogical.

The NDDC forensic report was not released by the Nigerian government, according to the plaintiffs, and it was not also disclosed to them or the general public in any way.

As part of the wider right to obtain, receive, and share information, the government is legally required to uphold transparency and grant access to the report.

There is a preponderance of the public’s interest in the publication and disclosure of the NDDC forensic report, according to lawyers Kolawole Oluwadare, Kehinde Oyewumi, and Andrew Nwankwo on behalf of SERAP and the four citizens.

Israel issues forced displacement order in central Gaza in new campaign

Palestinians in central Gaza have been given a new forced evacuation warning by the Israeli military, instructing them to move south to al-Mawasi, an area Israel has frequently attacked despite labeling it a “safe zone.”

On Sunday, thousands of leaflets were dropped over Deir el-Balah to direct displaced families who were residing in tents in various densely populated areas of the city.

As Hamas continued to launch deadly attacks on unarmed and starving civilians in northern Gaza on Sunday, killing at least 73 of them as aid seekers, the Israeli military warned of immediate action against Hamas fighters in the area.

The military’s Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee advised Palestinians who were living in the Deir el-Balah region to leave right away in an article on X.

According to Adraee, Israel was “expanding its activities” in the Deir el-Balah, including “in an area where it has not previously operated,” instructing Palestinians to “southward travel to the al-Mawasi area” on the Mediterranean coast for “your safety.”

(Al Jazeera)

The Israeli army was seen filming a video that Al Jazeera verified showing the Israeli army distributing large quantities of leaflets over Deir el-Balah residential areas to warn the Palestinians of the order.

Nowhere else to go

According to Al Jazeera’s reporter from Deir el-Balah, the area targeted by Israel is densely populated and it would be “impossible” for the affected residents to leave on short notice.

Because even the areas that the Israeli army has designated as safe, Palestinians here are refusing to leave and saying they are staying in their homes, she said.

Because most of the west’s and even al-Mawasi’s are full of people and tents with no more room for expansion, Palestinians claim that there is no space and that they have nowhere else to go. There are no other choices for them.

Israel and Hamas held indirect ceasefire talks in Qatar, but international mediators claimed there had never been any progress.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly urged Hamas to negotiate, but negotiations have been stymied for months.

The Israeli military claimed to have a controlling stake in the Gaza Strip in this month.

During the conflict, which is currently in its 22nd month, the majority of Gaza’s population, which is more than two million people, has been displaced at least once. In large parts of the coastal enclave, Israel has repeatedly ordered Palestinians to leave or face reprisals.

More than 80% of the Gaza Strip, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, were subject to Israeli evacuation orders that had been lifted in January, and many of its residents were living starving.

This weekend, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital admitted a 35-day-old baby to Gaza City and a four-month-old boy to Deir el-Balah for malnutrition.

At least 116 Palestinians were killed on Saturday, many of whom were aid workers, while others were attempting to get food from Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is supported by Israel and the United States.

Since the GHF’s operations began in late May, at least 900 Palestinians have been killed at the sites because an Israeli blockade has prevented UN and other aid organizations from entering Gaza and causing them to flee.

Pope Leo XIV has called for the “barbarity” of the war and called for the “indiscriminate use of force” as a result of the genocide.
