Tries: Asi, Lawler, Simm Goals: Atkin 4

Warrington (10) 14

Warrington’s Super League play-off ambitions suffered a big blow as they were beaten by struggling Castleford at a rain-lashed Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

Sam Stone’s score put Wire ahead early on, but the hosts hit back to lead 12-6 as Daejarn Asi crossed and George Lawler pounced on a handling mistake to ground.

Jake Thewlis’ try brought Warrington within two points at half-time, but Cas survived mounting pressure and went further ahead through Chris Atkin’s penalty and Josh Simm’s try.

Stefan Ratchford touched town to cut the lead to 20-14 after Alex Mellor’s sin-binning, but third-bottom Castleford held out to give interim head coach Chris Chester his first win.

Following four successive defeats, including back-to-back reverses to the league’s bottom two sides, and without a head coach since Danny McGuire’s dismissal, the omens did not look good when Castleford fell behind within six minutes.

Marc Sneyd’s up and under slipped through Fletcher Rooney’s grasp, and a few plays later Ben Currie sent Stone through for his first Warrington try.

But the home side hit back superbly and within 12 minutes were ahead thanks to some Wire charity.

Lacklustre defence allowed Asi to drag three tacklers over the line to level. And after blowing a two-on-one chance to retake the lead, the visitors trailed when a grubber kick slid past Lachlan Fitzgibbon, allowing Lawler to pounce.

After resisting mounting pressure, Castleford’s defence succumbed moments before the break when the ball was worked quickly out to the left, giving Thewlis space for a fine diving finish.

Cas almost squeezed in a third try before the hooter, but Australian centre Zac Cini’s surge was stopped right on the line.

Warrington restarted with urgency and Rooney only just prevented George Williams from collecting his own chip and chase before a Williams grubber kick to the corner narrowly evaded Thewlis.

Having soaked up the pressure, the home side landed a sucker-punch as Atkin booted them 14-10 ahead before Sneyd spilled the ball in the tackle on halfway and Cas broke away to score, with Simm finishing.

Warrington wanted more than a yellow card for Mellor when his high tackle stopped Thewlis from grounding a certain try

Yet they had hope again 90 seconds later when Ratchford nudged Innes Senior aside to ground Williams’ grubber kick.

‘Past the point of frustration’ – Burgess

Castleford Tigers interim head coach Chris Chester told BBC Radio Leeds:

“I’ve never questioned the players’ efforts. The effort has been really good on the whole, it’s just the belief and the confidence and winning breeds confidence, but on the flip side, when you keep losing you go into your shell a little bit more.

“I thought we were great today. The starting pack was really physical and in these conditions you have to kick the ball well and on the whole I think we did that.”

(On Alex Mellor’s high tackle): “I think a penalty try would have been harsh. I agree with the sin-binning, he’s caught him high.

“I thought we defended our line pretty well when we lost the captain and we just came through at the end.”

Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess:

“It’s becoming very common, the poor decisions.

“I’m really struggling to understand that call, so I’ll ask for clarity (from referees’ chief Phil Bentham) again, and I’ll probably get an email saying, ‘yeah, we got it wrong, it should have been a penalty try, sorry Sam’.

“It’s past the point of frustration. All being said I have to get it on the record, we just weren’t good enough as well.

“Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy,” Coldplay frontman Chris Martin said from the stage. In the days that followed, the video went viral on social media, quickly sparking a wave of memes and jokes about the incident. Country singer Morgan Wallen even weighed in during his concert in Glendale, Ariz., on Friday (July 18), telling the crowd that anyone attending with their “side chick” was “safe here.”Astronomer has since released a statement noting that Byron is stepping down as CEO and that the company is searching for his replacement, according to The Associated Press.“Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding,” the company wrote in a statement on Saturday (July 19). “Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met. Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted. The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO.”The statement continued, “Before this week, we were known as a pioneer in the DataOps space, helping data teams power everything from modern analytics to production AI. While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not. We’re continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data and AI problems.”Coldplay had not released a statement about the situation at press time. But at the band’s concert in Madison, Wis., on Saturday — their first show since the kiss-cam moment — a fan held up a sign that read, “He’s not my CEO,” with an arrow pointing to the man beside her, prompting laughter from the crowd, according to TMZ.

Charli XCX defies bridal style with eye-wateringly expensive wedding ring

Pop superstar Charli XCX and The 1975’s George Daniel became husband and wife in an intimate London wedding ceremony over the weekend – where the Von Dutch singer stunned with her bridal style

Charlotte Aitchison is now Mrs George Daniel after tying-the-knot in an intimate ceremony in London on Saturday. The 32-year-old pop sensation, better known by her stage name Charli XCX, and The 1975 drummer, 35, have been an item since 2022.

And on Saturday they swapped vows at Hackney Town Hall in front of their parents and a small crowd of close friends and loved ones. Photographs from the wedding day were splashed online – showing Charli and George beaming on the steps of the town hall where they married.

Fans fawned over chart-topping star Charli’s cream coloured bridal gown – which wrapped around her body and was matched with a pristine white veil. Posing on the steps of the hall, Charli exuded an element of cool as she adorned shared and clasped the hand of her rock star husband.

Fans looking closely at her hand, however, will have noticed the dazzling rings that the Good Ones singer was sporting on her wedding finger. And, indeed, it would seem the star is carrying an impressive amount of bling on her finger – which one jewellery expert has valued at around £14, 000.

Laura Taylor, engagement ring specialist at Lorel Diamonds, said of the engagement ring: “Charli’s engagement ring is a classic design that lets the diamond do all the talking, featuring a 1-carat round brilliant solitaire, set on a platinum band.

Charli became engaged to The 1975’s George Daniel in November 2023 and they married this weekend

” Round brilliants are still the most popular engagement cut because of how much light they reflect from every angle, giving them the trademark diamond sparkle. If the stone is natural and of excellent colour and clarity, I’d estimate it to be worth around £12, 000 to £15, 000 (around $16, 000 to $20, 000).

“George made the perfect choice with this ring because it works with any style and will never date. Even though Charli’s known for pushing boundaries elsewhere, her engagement ring is something she’ll be able to wear for life”.

But it’s not just Charli’s engagement ring that dazzles – as her wedding band also stands out. Laura explains: “Charli’s wedding band is where she’s really made it her own.

” Rather than going for a traditional band to sit next to the solitaire, or even an eternity band like we’re seeing with other celebrities, she’s chosen something much bolder.

“From the photos, it looks like a wide ring with a twisted overlapping design, again in platinum to match her engagement ring.

It’s “very different from the delicate bands you typically see pairing with solitaires,” it says. Celebrities like Dua Lipa and her chunky engagement ring are choosing bold rings this year.

The jewelry expert continued:” I’d estimate Charli’s wedding band to be worth around £8, 000 to £10, 000 ($11, 000 to $13, 000), depending on the designer.

She chose a short white dress and sunglasses to her ceremony, skipping the customary formal bridal attire, and the outfit perfectly complemented the rest of her wedding ensemble. Charli shows that you don’t have to adhere to the traditional guidelines by pairing a vintage engagement ring with a statement wedding band.

She continued, “It’s a really good illustration of how you can incorporate your own personal style”!

NDLEA Arrests Alleged Kingpin After Six-Year Hunt

A wanted 60-year-old drug kingpin has been detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), ending a six-year spree of law-evasion.

Femi Babafemi, the director of media and advocacy for NDLEA, made this known in a statement on Sunday.

He claimed that the suspect had been caught trying to transport large amounts of cocaine and meth to the South-East and other regions of the nation.

The suspect, who has been wanted by NDLEA since 2019, was eventually apprehended on July 13 at his hideout in the Isheri neighborhood of Lagos.

Babafemi claimed this came after some of his consignments at 5:45 a.m. at Ilasamaja on the Apapa-Oshodi expressway were intercepted.

According to him, a team of NDLEA officers were using credible information to detain one of the kingpin’s couriers traveling in a white Toyota Sienna.

Babafemi claims that the agency’s sniffer dogs were later used to search the vehicle.

He claimed that the vehicle’s body compartments contained 900 grams of methamphetamine and 7.6 kg of cocaine.

He claimed that the kingpin’s hideout in Isheri was immediately the site of a follow-up procedure.

He claimed that his home had recovered an additional 1. 8 kg of cocaine and 1. 3 kg of methamphetamine.

Babafemi added that 7, 790 tramadol and rhizonol pills were recovered by the NDLEA agents in a joint operation with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s aviation security personnel.

Babafemi claimed on Wednesday that the drugs, which were in a passenger traveling from Italy, were intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

He claimed the suspect, who was taking the drugs on a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Italy, allegedly purchased them himself and planned to sell them there for higher prices.

According to Babafemi, NDLEA agents at the export shed intercepted 17 parcels of the cannabis strain skunk on Thursday in a further arrest at the Lagos airport.

The drugs, which weighed 1.70 kg, were hidden in cereal packs that were being shipped to Pakistan as a consolidated cargo, according to the anti-narcotics agency.

He claimed that in connection with the incident, a suspect had been detained.

On Wednesday, Babafemi reported that 45, 000 tramadol pills were seized from a 30-year-old suspect on the Onitsha-Enugu expressway in another development.

Babafemi remarked that two suspects with illegal drugs were apprehended by Taraba command officers the same day.

More abuse as women’s football grows – Bronze

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

After team-mate Jess Carter revealed she had been sent racist messages during Euro 2025, England defender Lucy Bronze claims that players are receiving more abuse as the bigger women’s football spreads.

After witnessing “a lot of racial abuse” during the tournament, Carter has said she will stop using social media, and the Football Association has confirmed that it is “working with police to ensure this hate crime is brought to justice.”

The Lionesses will also ban the practice of kneeling before games in protest of racism, saying it was “clear we and football need to find another way to combat racism.”

And Bronze, who has been a fixture in England’s semi-final against Italy, said players have experienced “more abuse” since achieving international success.

The more fans there are, the more noise the game generates, according to Bronze, “but the more the game grows,” said the coin.

“We love the sport, but we’re not open to abuse,” we say. “We’re obviously open to critics.” The abuse online seems to be getting worse, especially in women’s football.

We see it more in the stadiums both in men’s and online, but I believe there is a real target for women’s football.

We’re never as players helpless, they say.

Before the competition, Sarina Wiegman’s squad met to discuss abuse and how it has grown to be a “huge factor, specifically in women’s football,” according to Bronze.

Alessia Russo, the England striker, mentioned preferring to avoid social media because of how “damaging” the abuse can be before her move to Switzerland.

And Chelsea’s Lauren James, who was subject to racist abuse during the Women’s World Cup and the Women’s Super League season afterward, has remarked that abuse “never really stops.”

Katie Boulter, a British tennis player, was interviewed by BBC Sport about being the subject of online abuse and death threats.

To combat abuse and discrimination, football clubs, players, and sporting organizations launched a four-day boycott of social media platforms in 2021.

Bronze added that she hoped that “noise will be reached around the world” by standing before kick-off rather than kneeling.

“We are aware that those at the top have the power to ultimately implement changes.” But as players, I believe we always have a point, she continued.

“Our voices are loud enough to be heard by people all over the world, whether it’s on social media platforms or in international organizations like Uefa and Fifa.”

We’re very proud as a Lionesses team of having created this voice and a platform to help us reach the heights. We’re willing to make a difference using that voice and platform.

She continued, “People need to be held accountable,” and she also demanded more action from social media platforms.

For her to speak out about racism and bullying in public, team-mate Carter said: “For her to do so is empowering for our entire team in general, especially the likes of Michelle Agyemang, who is in her first tournament.

Carter says, “It gives people more power to be brave, stand up, speak up, and see all the team-mates and the country behind them.” In situations like this, that means a lot.

Many players are aware that this has always been a problem in the game of football. We are all so disappointed that supposedly devoted fans wrote these messages as Jess did yesterday.
