Clarkson and Osborne ‘deserve’ Lions call-ups

Thomas Clarkson and Jamie Osborne “fully deserve” to be a part of the squad for Tuesday’s First Nations and Pasifika XV, according to assistant coach of the British and Irish Lions.

After appearing on Ireland’s summer tour, the Leinster duo were called up late as cover.

Osborne will make his outside-center debut, joining captain Owen Farrell, while Clarkson and Easterby both think their contributions to the club and nation merit their inclusion.

The quality of those two people is obvious, they say. Tom has put in some excellent performances at Leinster, never mind in the Irish squad,” he said.

“Jamie has had a fantastic couple of years. It’s pretty impressive what positions he can cover and what kind of character he brings to Leinster. His performance in South Africa last summer and his performance for Leinster as a 12-member wing player are both impressive.

“I’m really pleased for the two of them; they genuinely deserve to be here, and I have no doubts that they will perform tomorrow.”

None of the Lions’ starting lineup members were in the Lions’ first-test win over Australia.

In advance of Saturday’s second Test against Joe Schmidt’s side, Easterby refrained from assuming that Tuesday’s game was a “distraction.”

Instead, he urged the participating players to use the Pasifika game as an opportunity to smuggle their way into Andy Farrell’s plans by giving a strong performance at Marvel Stadium.

Easterby continued, “The players are aware of the potential there.”

Overall, “Faz]Andy Farrell] has given guys opportunities based on the performances they have produced on tour.

Steve Tandy has been appointed as the head coach of Wales.

The Scotland defense coach has completed his commitments to Gregor Townsend’s team’s summer tour and will return to his home country of Wales on September 1.

Former Neath and Ospreys flanker, 45, was working for Scotland under a release agreement with the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU).

Tandy has a three-year contract, according to WRU performance director Dave Reddin, which will extend him until 2027’s World Cup in Australia.

Warren Gatland, who resigned during the Six Nations in February, has been sought out by the WRU as a permanent replacement.

Matt Sherratt, a Cardiff native, agreed to stay put for the duration of the tournament on a temporary basis before moving on to Japan for the summer tour.

Tandy’s first game as manager will be against Argentina in Cardiff on November 9th, followed by additional autumn internationals against South Africa, Japan, and New Zealand.

Welsh rugby rebuilding

With Welsh rugby in disarray and a national team in crisis, Tandy will have his work cut out.

In July, Wales briefly fell to 14th place in the world rankings before regaining 12th place.

A 21-month losing streak that culminated with their victory against Japan in Kobe earlier this month was finally ended with them clinching 18 straight Test defeats.

“I’m looking forward to helping the Welsh rugby team rebuild and return to square one against the best nations in the world,” said Tandy.

“I’m excited about Welsh rugby’s potential and our group of young, diligent players.”

Best for the job, in my opinion.

Tandy was born in Tonmawr, but he did not play for Wales as a national team. He did, however, play for the local team Neath RFC and then Ospreys.

After coaching Ospreys between 2012 and 2018, the former back row will make a comeback in Wales.

In his first season in charge of the region in Swansea, he won the Celtic League.

Before joining Scotland in 2019, Tandy left the Ospreys for a role with the Australian side Waratahs.

In 2021, he also served as the defensive coordinator for Gatland’s British and Irish Lions squad in South Africa.

Abi Tierney, the union’s executive director, claims that Tandy was the “standout candidate” and that the Union had chosen the job’s best coach.

As we look to achieve sustainable success for our senior men’s side, Tierney said, “This is a keystone appointment for us and an integral part of our five-year strategy.”

As a proud Welshman, Steve “fits the bill” in terms of the bond he will have with a young group of players with great potential as well as the galvanizing effect he can have on the entire rugby ecosystem.

staff choices in the backroom

New WRU rugby director Reddin took the decision to choose Tandy.

During the interview process, Steve’s coaching journey and the approach he has taken to learning and developing have impressed us, according to Reddin.

He embodies the systematic and collaborative approach that I want to impart to our high-performance system.

Steve is a great coach, and he has a strong desire to learn and grow. Everyone in our system is going to value these traits highly.

Who will make up Tandy’s backroom staff has not been made public, but Wales will look to hire some former campaign managers.

Sherratt, a head coach of Cardiff, and Gloucester assistant Rhys Thomas, a current Gloucester assistant, are both being considered for positions under Tandy.

Reddin stated that Tandy would not “only select his backroom staff,” but that Tandy would “fully participate in that process and that they would do that together.”

Steve is a key component of the Welsh rugby team’s future strategy, and I’m going to make sure he has the time, resources, and support to fully exploit the potential of the talented group of players he will have, Reddin said.

Scotland experiences a mix of emotions.

Alex Williams, the head of Scottish Rugby, claims he was “delighted” by Tandy’s departure.

Williams stated that the Welsh Rugby Union has collaborated closely with Abi Tierney and her team to allow Steve to join them and that a suitable replacement is being sought.

We have mixed feelings because Steve is a very well-known and talented coach.

Steve is one of the best coaches in the world, according to Scottish Rugby.

Tandy “has had a positive impact” on Scottish rugby, according to Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend.

He has greatly aided me in my role and offered me advice, Townsend said.

Over the years, we’ve collaborated on various initiatives to enhance the team’s environment.

Syria’s Bedouin clans withdraw from Druze city of Suwayda

Following weeks of fighting and a US-brokered ceasefire, the heavily fortified Bedouin tribes of Syria have announced their withdrawal from Suwayda, the city where the majority of the Druze live.

More than 250 people were killed in the clashes between Druze fighters and Sunni Muslim clans, which put the country’s already fragile post-war transition at risk.

In addition, Israel carried out numerous airstrikes against government forces in the southern province of Suwayda, which had in effect sided with the Bedouins.

Additionally, the fighting caused a number of sectarian attacks on the Druze, which were followed by Bedouin revenge attacks.

Ahmed al-Sharaa, who has come to be perceived as more sympathetic to the Bedouins, tried to make contact with the Druze while maintaining his criticism of its fighters. He later urged the Bedouins to leave the city, claiming that they “cannot replace the state’s role in handling the country’s affairs and restoring security.”

As government security forces and military police were stationed on the outskirts of Suwayda on Sunday to supervise their exit from the province, there were dozens of armed Bedouins and other clans who were supporting them. The Bedouin fighters accused Druze groups of harming Bedouin families and placed their blame on Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri’s spiritual leader.

On Monday, the Syrian government began evacuating Bedouin families who were residing in Suwayda.

The government and some Suwayda officials worked together to evict about 1,500 Bedouins from the city, according to Syrian state media on Sunday. Because fighting has largely stopped and efforts are being made for a complete ceasefire, Interior Minister Ahmad al-Dalati stated to the SANA news agency that the initiative will also allow displaced civilians from Suwayda to return.

Arsenal ‘short of numbers’ after £123m spend – Arteta

Arsenal are “short on numbers,” according to Mikel Arteta, and are “looking to improve the depth and quality” of the squad.

The Gunners have completed deals for Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, and Noni Madueke for a total of about £123.5 million. They have also been active in the transfer market.

Additionally, they are negotiating a transfer fee of 73,5 million euros ($63,5 million) for Valencia’s young defender Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.

A transfer has not yet been approved, though Arteta hasn’t ruled out signings to join them in Asia. Arsenal had been hoping to finalize a deal with Sweden international Gyokeres and include him on their pre-season tour.

“I have no opinion on any players who aren’t currently in our group.” When asked about the signing of 27-year-old Gyokeres, Arteta responded, “We will do that whenever we have something concrete to offer any player.”

When asked whether there might be more signings for his 30-man squad while they were away, Arteta responded, “There is still a long time in the window and we are seeking still.”

We are short in terms of personnel, and we need to increase the squad’s depth and quality. We constantly check the market for new things.

Before traveling to Hong Kong to face rivals Tottenham, Arsenal are in Singapore for games against AC Milan and Newcastle.

Arteta said in Singapore, “It’s like shaking the tree once more,” about his new signings ahead of Arsenal’s game against AC Milan on Wednesday.
