ICC consider three new member applications from Africa

Reuters

In the coming months of this year, three African nations will submit an application to become associate members of the International Cricket Council.

Prior to the deadline of December, Burkinabe, Mauritius, and Burundi will all submit the necessary paperwork to the ICC’s membership committee.

The trio’s participation in this year’s ICC Annual General Meeting was anticipated by the governing body, according to BBC Sport.

Due to the ICC’s various administrative concerns, none of the three countries were able to advance with their applications.

After receiving Associate status from Zambia and Timor-Leste, the ICC increased its total number of members to 110 at the AGM last weekend in Singapore.

USA and ICC are still “on notice.”

Following their AGM, the ICC stated that USA Cricket would “main on notice” due to ongoing concerns about membership compliance.

The ICC’s suspension of USA cricket would have had a significant impact on the country’s men’s and women’s cricket teams, which would have led to a decrease in central funding and a suspension of both teams.

According to evidence from BBC Sport, USA Cricket has addressed five of the eight governance, finance, and administration issues that the ICC has raised.

The ICC has chosen to give USA Cricket more time to resolve any remaining issues with the caveat that the board of the world’s governing body “reserve the right to take such actions as it deems appropriate.”

Requiring the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s (UGG) status is one of the key issues that Cricket USA are under pressure to address.

Cricket will be playing at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games after a 128-year absence, requiring NGB status.

In a statement from the ICC, “USA Cricket is required to implement comprehensive governance reforms, including but not limited to holding free and fair elections within three months.”

At the ICC’s 2024 AGM in Sri Lanka, USA Cricket was first given a notice for “non-compliance with ICC membership criteria.”

Syria evacuates Bedouins from clashes-hit Suwayda as shaky ceasefire holds

After a week of fighting between Druze and Bedouin fighters, hundreds of Bedouin families are being evacuated by the Syrian government from Suwayda, where a fragile ceasefire is still in effect.

On Monday, the first Bedouin families drove on buses and trucks to meet Syrian Arab Red Crescent vehicles and ambulances. As the government intends to evacuate 1,500 people, they were transported to nearby Daraa.

According to Al Jazeera’s Mohamed Vall, who was reporting from Damascus’ capital, about noon (9:00 GMT), “At least 500 people have already left on 10 buses this morning, and more are expected to leave Suwayda in the next few hours.”

Nearly 260 people were killed and threatened to end Syria’s post-war transition as a result of the clashes between the Druze minority and the Bedouin clans, which started on July 13. According to the UN International Organization for Migration, 128, 571 people were also displaced by the violence.

Israel intervened by bombing Syria’s Ministry of Defense structures in Damascus, and Israel launched airstrikes against them. Syrian government forces in Suwayda province were also attacked by Israeli forces, who claimed they were protecting the Druze, who Israel refers to as its “brothers.”

Vall claimed that some Bedouin families were willing to flee the area.

“Seven districts of Suwayda are largely or partially inhabited by Arab Bedouins, and some of them are willing to leave on their own,” he said.

As efforts to achieve a total ceasefire are in progress, Syrian Interior Minister Ahmad al-Dalati told the SANA news agency that the evacuation process will also allow displaced civilians from Suwayda to return.

According to al-Dalati, “We have imposed a security cordon in the Suwayda area to keep it secure and to put an end to the fighting there.” This will maintain the course that will lead to province stability and reconciliation.

The Bedouin fighters will release the captive Druze women, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is based in the United Kingdom.

After negotiations for a captives swap ended late on Sunday, the Suwayda Observatory and activist groups reported hearing what they claimed were Israeli helicopters and air strikes over villages where some conflicted between the Bedouins and the Druze.

The Israeli military claimed to be unaware of any overnight strikes in Syria.

UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that a first Syrian Arab Red Crescent convoy on Sunday entered Suwayda with UN humanitarian aid, including food, water, medical supplies, and fuel.

Ahmed al-Sharaa, the interim leader of Syria, has criticized the Druze community’s loyalists, accusing them of being connected to spiritual leader Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, who has been a part of the conflict. He vowed to hold accountable those responsible for committing targeted attacks and other crimes.

The al-Assad family, which ruled Syria for 53 years, was largely celebrated by the Druze minority when it was overthrown in December.

‘I went to an Oasis gig and here’s what all the cool women were wearing’

If you’re wondering what to wear to your upcoming gig, check out our beauty editor Laura Mulley’s outfit gallery for one of the Oasis shows in Manchester this weekend.

Here’s what everyone was wearing at Oasis gigs(Image: Laura Mulley)

If you have tickets for an upcoming show or are hoping to purchase some last-minute ones, you’re in for a real treat, as all the fans are saying when I was lucky enough to get my tickets to see Oasis play at Heaton Park in Manchester on Saturday night, and it was incredible.

However, I debated and questioned what I should put on before going to it. I wanted to look cool despite having to spend a lot of time outside, which was necessary for my long day spent.

The band’s merchandise, which includes T-shirts and bucket hats, can be purchased in advance from the official Oasis store, or can be picked up from vendors at or outside the venue. The majority of attendees, of course, were wearing these items. On the high street, you’ll also find plenty of excellent products, including those from Next, Debenhams, and Amazon.

I needed wellies or boots and raincoats (I purchased this leopard print one from ASOS), but I attended Heaton Park, which is a completely open-air venue. Keep with the band’s affiliation to Adidas with a pair of Spezials if you’re visiting Wembley Stadium, but trainers are still a good idea. What else should you pair your merchandise with?

Oasis fans should be aware that UK reunion tour tickets are still available for purchase; this is where.

a crossbody bag

A crossbody bag that leaves your hands free makes it ideal for gigs because it is safe, accessible, and stylish. The cult classic Uniqlo Round Mini Shoulder Bag, priced at $14.90, is ideal for this because it’s lightweight and available in a lot of colors right now.

Remember that any bag you bring must be under A4 in size (no backpacks allowed), and it will be searched before entering.

Shorts

Even though the weather isn’t particularly hot, we’re still talking summer. At Heaton Park, almost all of the women were wearing shorts, paired with a band T-shirt, and it gives off a rock ‘n’ roll, festival-like vibe. They are much more practical than a skirt if you intend to sit on someone else’s shoulders.

Go for a pair of classic Levi’s 501 denim cut-offs, such as these from £42 and this pair from Nobody’s Child, which are still on sale in all sizes and are still on sale for half as much as they did.

a bucket hat

Make sure to wear a bucket hat, in keeping with the band’s well-known 90s aesthetic because so many people at Heaton Park were wearing it. I adored this grey leopard print Adidas pair my friend was wearing when I wanted to buy a non-Oasis pair that I could wear more often (£30).

However, ASOS is a great place to look if you want more options because it’s currently only available in one size. If you know you won’t be wearing it much after the event, consider purchasing this £8 cream one instead of the olive-colored one.

How to purchase Oasis tickets

The largest ticket collection is currently on sale on resale websites like Vivid Seats, StubHub, and Vigogo, despite their being in a grey area. And these cost between £350 and £400, respectively.

Tickets can be purchased from these websites until the day of the concert. Additionally, each website offers a guarantee to protect ticket buyers, meaning they are guaranteed either receiving a refund or receiving their money back for the event they purchase. No arrests are necessary.

The links are as follows:

At this point in the tour, only legitimate methods of purchasing tickets are available through Ticketmaster, Seat Unique, and Twickets, which are both official retailers. However, Ticketmaster and Twickets have experienced weeks of late delivery.

Having said that, Seat Unique is still offering VIP and VIP tickets at the moment. These tickets include complimentary food, beverages, early access, after parties, and more.

Fans need all the links listed here:

Oasis fans just realising why Noel Gallagher always has straw in mouth before gigs

Oasis fans have been perplexed by Noel Gallagher’s straw, which shows the singer chewing on a blue and white straw before national tour dates. Since then, fans have discovered the cause.

Noel Gallagher has been spotted chewing on straws in the lead-up to shows, which left Oasis fans wondering. With Oasis back on stage for a number of sold-out shows, he and Liam Gallagher made their first appearance together in 16 years. Fans are only now learning about a peculiar aspect, though.

Noel, the 58-year-old songwriter behind hits like Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back in Anger, has been spotted chewing on a blue and white striped straw in public. Since then, members of the public have discovered why he continues to do it.

Without prior authorization, content cannot be displayed.

Gallagher chewing on the drinking utensil was spotted in a post to X, with fans asking why he is “chewing on that all day long.” Noel is constantly spotted with the straw, and it seems to be having an impact on his live performances because listeners have figured it out.

The straw is a “vocal straw,” according to some, and Gallagher chews on it to ease his vocal cords before performances with his brother Liam, 52.

It “does” the claim of one user. Another was added, “Blow inside, rest, and control the vocal cords and breathing techniques. “

And it appears that the fans were correct. After experiencing issues on his tour with U2 in 2019, the Manchester-native revealed that a doctor had advised him to practice his voice with a straw warm-up for gigs. On Funny How by Matt Morgan? He explained in a podcast that he had received his paper straw and said to “Half an hour before you go on, in your room, put some music on, and put this straw in your mouth and just hum along to whatever comes on and your vocal cords will warm up.”

Although I had some skepticism, it actually works. Usually, it would take me a few tunes to get into it, but now I’m just fine. “

Noel added that he now “carries them everywhere” now.

During the Oasis Live ’25 tour, fans have noticed a number of other subtly subtle details, some of which suggest that Noel’s guitar playing is improving.

The band also played a number of dates in their hometown of Manchester during the tour, which began in Cardiff on July 4. Following that, performances are scheduled in Dublin, Edinburgh, and London.

However, Noel’s performance on the guitar made the audience’s hearts sing as he did for the show. Fans claimed that he was “going better every night” of the tour and sounding relaxed.

Noel’s musical abilities appear to improve with each show, according to a fan. The fan, who was obviously impressed by the older Gallagher brother, commented, “Noel’s guitar playing is getting better every night.

“After seeing Anais’ [Noel’s daughter] Instagram story of her dad playing the Champagne Supernova solo last night, I couldn’t help but notice how Noel is seemingly getting better.

With the lack of lead guitar he has been playing since Oasis originally split up, “makes a lot of sense.” Playing solos once more, especially at Cardiff Night One (makes sense) definitely made him feel a little out of his element.

Fans have since come to terms with the High Flying Birds frontman’s claim that he appears to have become much more at ease onstage since Oasis’ first performance.

Shilton shirt from ‘Hand of God’ match in 1986 to be sold

The shirt Peter Shilton wore to the 1986 World Cup’s “Hand of God” game against Argentina will be up for auction, with an estimated sale price of up to £300,000.

Diego Maradona lifted the ball over Shilton in one of the most famous games in the history of the competition to give his nation a lead.

The South American team’s captain dribbled past several England players from his own half, which is widely considered one of the greatest goals of all time four minutes later.

Maradona’s No 10 shirt from the game sold for a record sum of money in May of 2022 at auction for £7.1 million.

When asked if the midfielder had made a mistake in attempting to score the opener, he responded that it was “a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God.”

Tops from earlier games in the tournament were discounted as part of the authentication process, according to Graham Budd Auctions’ David Convery, of Graham Budd Auctions.

It has a wee bit of a whiff to it when it comes off his back in 1986, as you can imagine.

The material has some pulls and snags, but overall, it’s in excellent condition.

Second objective like “dream”

When the BBC contacted him, Shilton declined to be interviewed. He went on to earn a record 125 caps for his nation.

However, Maradona’s second goalkeeper, Peter Reid, refers to the shirt as a reminder of a special game.

The former midfielder spoke about the intense build-up with the world’s media outside the team hotel for their first game since the Falklands War in the early 1990s when he spoke at the Manchester National Football Museum.

It’s an iconic game when you combine the handball, the second goal, Maradona’s persona. It should be called that, I suppose.

Bobby Robson, the manager of England, was not great at using names. He gave him the name Madonna.

Reid repeats the story, “He went past me, played a one-two.”

Shilts seemed to be getting it, I thought. I observed the handball as he turned around. Maradona did it admirably. You might say it was cute.

The ground erupted [with fans cheering], and I realized he had given it. The referee was pursued by Glenn Hoddle, Terry Fenwick, Shilts, and I.

Reid describes witnessing Maradona’s second goal come into life as “being in a dream” as he forlornly chased.

“He was just too quick,” he said. When you re-evaluate, Hoddle is fouled, it isn’t given, and Maradona is gone.

Even with the pitch being terrible and covered in potholes, “His touch and pace was staggering.” He simply rushed too quickly.

I just clapped as a substitute from the stand at the far end of the stadium, “Anderson interjects.”

The 1958 World Cup medal won by Pele, which is up for sale, is one of the items that will be auctioned as part of the same event, which is expected to fetch up to £500,000.

The medal worn by Gordon Banks in 1966 is estimated to sell for around £300,000, while Alan Ball’s shirt is anticipated to fetch around £200,000.
