Brown ‘not surprised’ by Horner’s Red Bull sacking

Images courtesy of Getty

Zak Brown, the head of McLaren Racing, claims he was “not surprised” Christian Horner’s resignation as Red Bull team boss.

Three days after Max Verstappen’s fifth place finish in the British Grand Prix, Max Verstappen’s driver Max Verstappen was fired as Red Bull’s team principal and CEO.

Brown told Canadian television station TSN, “I’m maybe surprised by] the timing, but not the outcome.

“There has been a lot of drama there for the past few years, and it doesn’t seem like it has stopped, or maybe is getting worse.” Therefore, I’m not surprised.

Horner has been replaced by Frenchman Laurent Mekies, who was formerly the team’s principal, with the solemnity of Red Bull.

Since their 2005 debut, Horner had led the team. 17 months after it became known that a female employee had accused him of sexual harassment and coercive, controlling behavior, he abruptly left. The allegations, which Horner has always refuted, were dismissed by two separate internal Red Bull investigations.

Red Bull has gone through a difficult time since then, including a decline in their competitiveness.

In April of last year, their chief technical officer Adrian Newey resigned, at least partially as a result of the allegations against Horner. Newey, who is regarded as the best F1 designer in history, is currently employed by Aston Martin.

Long-time sports director Jonathan Wheatley also resigned in July of last year. He is currently the head of Sauber, which will eventually become Audi’s factory team.

Verstappen won his fourth consecutive world title last year, but Red Bull finished third overall in the constructors’ championship and only won three of the final thirteen races.

Verstappen leads the drivers’ championship this year with just two victories in its first 12 races, while Red Bull is fourth in the constructors’ championship, and there is much rumors that the Dutchman might leave for Mercedes at the end of the season.

Over the past few years, Brown and Horner have a contentious relationship.

He claimed that Horner and Red Bull “used to get along” and that their budget breach in 2021 “constituted cheating.”

Brown has addressed Horner less provocatively this year, but he has not concealed his disapproval of Red Bull’s rant about the McLaren car’s legality behind the scenes.

He drank from a bottle labelled “tyre water” at the Miami Grand Prix, in reference to Horner’s complaint to the FIA about how McLaren claimed to cool their tires with water. The claim had no real basis, according to Brown, who viewed it as false.

He said the bottle was “poking fun at a serious issue” and that it was “pokking fun.”

What’s changed as FPL goes live?

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has returned for the 2025-26 season and includes some updated features.

As well as price alterations and plenty of new arrivals into the league, there have also been announcements of new ways to score points and extra chips to apply to your team throughout the campaign.

A big change for the new season is players are now allowed two uses of all four chips.

They are: bench boost, free hit, triple captain and wildcard. Players will now be permitted one use of each chip in the first half of the season and another in the second.

Bench boost is where the points of all four of a team’s substitutes count towards a total score in that gameweek.

Free hits allow players to temporarily change as many players as they wish in a single gameweek, but their team will be reset to how it was in the following week.

Triple captain is where a team’s captain’s score is tripled instead of doubled for a single gameweek.

A wildcard allows a player to make unlimited permanent transfers to their team in a single gameweek.

Defences could win titles

Outfield players will now earn bonus points based on the number of defensive actions they make in one match.

For defenders, clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles all count as defensive involvements.

For midfielders and forwards, clearances, blocks, interceptions, tackles and ball recoveries are classified as such.

For every 10 defensive actions, a defensive player makes in a single match, they will receive two bonus points. For midfielders and forwards, two points are awarded for every 12 actions made.

Had this been in play for the 2024-25 season, Everton’s James Tarkowski would have been the top-scoring player for defensive involvements. He would have earned 44 bonus points – four more than any other player.

Changes to bonus points and assists

There have also been changes to how bonus points are awarded.

Bonus points are given to the best three players in each match based on the Bonus Points System (BPS) that comprises of statistics from Opta.

Previously, goalkeepers would get two BPS points for each save made. For saves of shots from inside the box, that has now increased to three, with shots from outside remaining at two.

A saved penalty would have previously given a goalkeeper nine BPS points. That has been reduced to eight for the save, but is balanced out by an increase to shots from inside of the penalty area being saved.

All scored penalties are now worth 12 BPS points, regardless of a player’s position. That was previously 18 and 24 points for midfielders and forwards respectively.

Making a goalline clearance has tripled in value from three BPS points to nine.

The final change to BPS points is tackles. All successful tackles are worth two BPS points. Previously, two points were awarded the number of net tackles completed (tackles won minus tackles lost).

There have also been changed into what is now being classed as an assist in order to allow for more.

For assists that took a deflection off a defender, assists will now be awarded regardless of whether the assist reached its intended target, providing it only took one touch off a defender and was received by the goalscorer inside the penalty area.

Unforced defensive errors will also now lead to an assist being given by the player whose pass led to it, as long as the defensive error in question is not a missplaced pass.

Again, the maximum one touch from a defender rule remains in play.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will take place during the Premier League season.

To help players navigate the prospect of losing a number of their players to the tournament, all managers will receive five free transfers for Gameweek 16, regardless of how many free transfers they had remaining in the previous week.

Price reveals and position changes

As is the case every year, the cost of players may change.

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland will cost £14.5m (from £12.5m last season) and £14m (from £15m) respectively this time around.

England and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford starts the new season at a price of £5.5m (£5m last season).

Manchester City left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, who signed from Wolves last month, will be priced at £6m (£4.5m last season).

Liverpool’s club record signing and Germany international Florian Wirtz will cost £8.5m at the start of the season.

Newcastle’s Swedish striker Alexander Isak starts at £10.5m (£8.5m last season).

FPL has also announced position changes for 11 players.

Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush, Manchester United’s Matehus Cunha and Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye have switched from forwards to midfielders.

West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen has been switched from a midfielder to a forward, while Arsenal teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly has been switched from a midfielder to a defender.

Defenses may win titles.

Players in the outfield now get bonus points for each defensive move they make in a single match.

Defensive involvements include clearances, blocks, interceptions, and tackles for defenders.

Clearances, blocks, interceptions, tackles, and ball recoveries fall under the category of such for midfielders and forwards.

A defensive player will receive two bonus points for every ten defensive actions they perform in a single game. For every 12 actions taken, two points are given to midfielders and forwards.

modifications to bonuses and assists

Additionally, the awarding of bonus points has changed.

Based on the Bonus Points System (BPS), which includes statistics from Opta, bonus points are awarded to the top three players in each match.

Goalkeepers used to receive two BPS points for each saved. The number of shots saved inside the box has now increased to three, with those saved outside at two.

A goalkeeper would have previously received nine BPS points from a saved penalty. The save has been reduced to eight, but it is counterbalanced by more shots coming from inside the penalty area being saved.

Regardless of a player’s position, all penalties that have been scored now total 12 BPS points. Prior to that, midfielders and forwards had 18 and 24 points, respectively.

The value of a goalline clearance has increased from three BPS points to nine.

The tackles are the final BPS point change. Two BPS points are awarded for every successful tackle. Prior to this, net tackles won were awarded two points (tackles won minus tackles lost).

In order to allow for more, there have also been modifications to what is now being categorized as an assist.

As long as the assist only took one touch off a defender and was received by the goalscorer inside the penalty area, no matter whether it reached its intended goal.

As long as the defensive error involved is not a missplaced pass, then an assist will now be made by the player whose pass led to it.

The defense’s one-touch rule, once more, is still in effect.

‘Oasis’ triumphant Manchester return was missing one thing – could it return at Wembley?’

As the Wonderwall stars take to Wembley Stadium in London this week, Mark Jefferies from The Mirror gives his opinion on Oasis’ triumphant reunion in Manchester.

Liam Gallagher (L) and Noel Gallagher (R) of Oasis perform during the opening night of their Live 25' Tour at Principality Stadium on July 04, 2025 in Cardiff, Wales.

Midway through the last Oasis concert in Manchester in 2025, there was a lot of love in the air. Before playing yet another hit, Noel Gallagher said: “The eyes of the world have been on you. Manchester, you’ve done yourself proud.”

And brother Liam said, “We adore you, we adore you,” toward the show’s conclusion. I appreciate you making this possible.

Five nights at Heaton Park, five star reviews from fans and critics across the board. Social media filled with many people saying they had seen the best gig of their life, regardless if it was the blazing sunshine of the first weekend and the rain of the final night.

It was a week-long homecoming party that was almost unimaginable.

As they clear up the trash on Gallagher Hill and there were a few disturbances there, the council may not feel as good.

The Gallaghers even showed up for free, giving out free T-shirts to the viewers who were watching the show.

Before and after performances, drinkers occupied Manchester Town Center.

However, having attended both weekends there, it occurred to me that one thing was missing, and that was the fear or aggravation.

In the early 2000s, I saw Oasis at Finsbury Park because the crowd was obscene and it seemed like a possibility of trouble or injury. I was able to get away with drinking cups full of mud and urine throughout the performance.

The Gallaghers could be feisty on stage on other occasions when significant fights broke out, which was far from romanticizing the show. Noel did wish ill on fans at a Brighton concert when we sang the wrong song back to him, which seems crazy.

Noel is a man of few words who plays music on stage these days. Unless you are a Manchester United fan who opposes doing the Poznan, the words are all positive.

The atmosphere has been euphoric, family-friendly celebrations, and there hasn’t been much alcohol or other anger-causing behavior in Cardiff and Manchester so far.

May it continue for a while. Although it’s a big ask, Wembley will hopefully become another celebration and London fans will make themselves proud like the thousands of people who live there.

At least 49 killed in Gaza attacks as Israel sends tanks into Deir el-Balah

According to medical sources, the Israeli military has launched tanks into Deir el-Balah in central Gaza for the first time since Israel launched its assault on the besieged territory in October 2023, killing at least 49 Palestinians in Israeli-led attacks across the country.

A day after its military forced thousands of residents to flee the areas’ southern and eastern neighborhoods, forcing thousands of people to flee to the Mediterranean coast and south to Khan Younis, Israel launched a ground offensive on the city’s densely populated southern and eastern neighborhoods on Monday.

At least three Palestinians were killed and several others were hurt by tank shelling that hit homes and mosques in the area, according to local doctors.

According to Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum, who was reporting from Deir el-Balah, gunfire was audible as Israeli tanks began to roll into the area on Monday morning.

He claimed that “we can see that the entire city is being attacked by Israelis.” “We were unable to fall asleep last night.”

Israeli bombardment is ongoing, according to the statement. Israeli military installations continue to bombard various residential areas. Residential homes were flattened before three more squares were destroyed in the city.

On July 21, 2025, an Israeli attack in Gaza City left a residential building with smoke and flames.

He claimed that donkey carts and other forms of transportation were frequently used by Deir el-Balah residents to flee.

Israel’s attacks get worse.

At least five people were killed in a tent in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, as a result of an Israeli airstrike, including a husband, wife, and their two children, according to the medical personnel.

Four aid seekers have been reported dead near a distribution center run by the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) since dawn on Monday.

In a separate Israeli bombardment in Jabalia al-Balad in the north, five additional Palestinians were killed.

Following an Israeli artillery strike on the nearby Jabalia al-Nazla area, the Palestine Red Crescent Society reported that its teams had recovered one person’s body and evacuated three injured people.

According to a source at al-Shifa Hospital, drone strikes were reported in Gaza City and left people dead.

The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that Israeli forces had killed at least 134 people and injured 1,155 others the day before. Since the start of the war, at least 59, 029 people have died in Gaza.

At least 19 people died from starvation in a single day, according to Gaza health officials on Sunday, highlighting the desperate state of the aid situation.

The World Food Programme’s representative for Palestine, Antoine Renard, claimed in an interview with Al Jazeera that he had been warned for “weeks” that the Palestinians in Gaza were facing starvation.

From occupied East Jerusalem, Renard said, “You have a level of despair that people are willing to risk their lives just to receive any of the assistance actually coming into Gaza.”

We can clearly see how high the number of people who are suffering from malnutrition is actually rising to levels that have never been seen before.

As the humanitarian situation for Palestinian refugees continues to deteriorate, UNRWA, the UN agency, reported receiving “desperate messages of starvation” from inside Gaza, including from its staff.

“Manmade suffering in Gaza must be stopped,” he said. In a statement posted on X, UNRWA said, “Lift the siege and allow aid to enter safely and at scale.”

900, 000 children in Gaza are varying degrees of malnutrition, according to Amjad Shawa, the organization’s head.

Israel must abide by international law, according to a joint statement from 25 nations, including the United Kingdom, France, and other European countries.

The suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new levels, according to the foreign ministers of the 25 nations, including Australia, Canada, and Japan. They also condemned “the drip feeding of aid and the inhumane killing of civilians, including children, who seek to meet their most basic needs of water and food.

The statement read, “The Israeli government’s aid delivery model is dangerous, causes instability, and undermines the dignity of Gazans.”

Prince Harry’s brutal ‘royal secrets’ warning that Prince William will ‘never forgive’

The Duke of Sussex has been a part of a dysfunctional family for a number of years with Prince William and their father, King Charles, but reconciliation with his older brother seems unlikely.

The reported rift between Harry and William is ongoing(Image: Getty Images)

Prince Harry and Prince William’s older brother, Prince William, appear to have reconciled, but King Charles may decide to end ties with his youngest son if he stops acting in a certain way.

Tensions have been high between the Duke of Sussex and his brother and father ever since he sensationally stepped down as a working member of the Royal Family in 2020 alongside his wife, Meghan Markle.

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the Sussexes’ two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, became permanent residents of California as they sought a new life. However, since then, the couple have launched a string of accusations against the royal family, and Harry himself has admitted that they may never “never forgive” him.

Royal Family

After finding their feet in the sunshine state of California, Harry and Meghan sat down for a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, just months before Lilibet was born. It aired some serious claims against the Royal Family, including someone allegedly asking Meghan about the colour of Archie’s skin before he was born.

In a strange twist, Harry’s explosive memoir, Spare, was released in January 2023, outshining everyone. As Harry revealed further allegations against his family, Harry’s father and brother became even more tense with this.

In one claim, he said his father “did not hug” him when his mother, Princess Diana, died, and in another, he alleged that Charles had said to Diana, “Wonderful. You have given me an heir and a spare. You have done your job.” Harry also claimed that he and William had a physical fight over his relationship with Meghan.

According to the claims made in Spare, it is feared that Harry’s tense relationship with William will be “much more difficult to repair.” The Duke claims that there is plenty of material in the book despite the release of the memoir more than two years ago. However, Harry claimed that his older brother would “never forgive” him if he released this.

Prince William and Harry
Harry claimed that his older brother “never forgives” him.

Harry claimed that he had 800 pages written at the time of writing the 400-page memoir. Put it that way, it could have been two books, he said at the time. And removing the items was the difficult part. “

“But there are some things that have happened, especially between me and my brother, and to some extent between me and my father, that I just don’t want the world to know. Because I don’t think they would ever forgive me.

You could argue that some of the things I’ve put there, but they’ll never be able to forgive me in any way. “

However, earlier this month, sources predicted Charles would be interested in seeing Harry again, but only if he backs away from the “endless” interviews and reduces his public attacks on the family. Senior aides from Charles and Harry’s teams convened for a secret peace summit in London to give the warning.

The King has consistently shown he loves both of his sons, and he is prepared to meet Harry when their diaries allow, according to a source close to the royal family. Aides from various households frequently meet, especially when new staff members start their positions, but of course this is a significant time.

Harry has been told by senior family members that his only option is to stop attacking the family and to engage in endless rounds of broadcast interviews. The Duke of Sussex might find it possible to begin the process of healing his relationship with his father if there is a period of rest and reflection.
