‘Kelly is more than the next Beckham’ – the Lioness shifting the culture

Chloe Kelly’s winning penalty in the Euro 2025 final changed English football’s culture and was awarded with a hop, skip, and thwack.

Kelly, who has spent the past three years at the center of the Lionesses’ explosion into the public consciousness, is not at all new with this.

In the Euro 2022 final, she scored the winning goal before celebrating by twirling her shirt aloft with sports bra on display. Kelly was praised for empowering women and showing how the Lionesses inspire both current and upcoming generations of girls.

The 2025 final had a different outcome. While Kelly was praised for spending time with the mascot at the medal ceremony, chatting with and hugging the young girl, she then turned to the camera after getting her award and mouthed a sweary celebration.

Meanwhile, Kelly’s alleged mockery of keeper Cata Coll following the winning spot-kick sparked a row in Spanish media. The headline read, “This is unnecessary, my friend.”

That is the Lionesses of 2025, spearheaded by Kelly – inspirational yes, but also arrogant in the way of all champions, icons not only for their gender, but also for their immense sporting ability.

Kelly is regarded as the embodiment of contemporary Lionesses by friends and team-mates.

England defender Esme Morgan said, “She seems to thrive on those times when the team needs to pull a performance out of the bag.”

Team-mates at Everton and Manchester City, Sandy MacIver also shared a house with Kelly during the coronavirus lockdown.

The Scotland goalkeeper described Chloe as “very chilled and laid-back” on BBC Sport. She has this aura on the pitch, but she leaves it.

” At City she was a louder voice in changing room. She now has the ability to excel as she does.

According to Nicola Kemp, editorial director of Creativebrief, that may represent a tonal shift in how the Lionesses are perceived culturally.

” This is a real watershed moment for football marketing, “Kemp told BBC Sport”. I anticipate more investment because Kelly’s passion and audacity on the pitch match up to a commercial cut-through.

Shinpads and power penalties: Kelly is a branding dream

In many ways, Kelly is a marketer’s dream. In all of England’s Euro 2025 knockout matches, she made the game-deciding contributions on the pitch, helping Russo equalize with Russo’s equalizer in the final, and scoring both of her crosses against Sweden and scoring the winner against Italy.

All of this was done in substitute appearances. Before you can get to the winning penalty, that is.

She is well-liked by fans off the field, and she has become the most popular Lioness on Instagram thanks to topping the BBC Sport audience ratings in comparison to Sweden and Spain.

Having had 75, 000 followers before Euro 2022, she now boasts 1.2 million fans on social media, surpassing Arsenal and England team-mate Leah Williamson.

However, many of those fans might find her choice of barbecue to be surprising.

We used to host barbecues in the summer when we were neighbors in Lockdown, MacIver said. “She likes a BBQ banana with nutella.

To be honest, “We had a great time in Lockdown.” We had a difficult quiz with the Lionesses one week, and we came out on top. People thought we cheated, but we didn’t! “

When Kelly and her partner were living in the house during lockdown, MacIver and her partner called him a “great guy” and claimed the couple were “very much in love”

After TV cameras caught her taping up her shin pads, Kelly’s popularity increased even more when she went viral during the quarter-final.

One featured her kissing Moore on their wedding day, while the other had an image of their pet dogs.

Kelly said before the final that “Otis and Rolo at the wedding are wearing their little tuxes are on one shinpad while I and Scotty are on the other, which is really nice because they both brought my life off the pitch with me.”

They are my dogs, but they also serve as my children as I travel, and Scott, who is always there for me, is one of them.

It was their wedding anniversary during the Euros. Kelly and her husband spent a few hours by the Swiss lakes while Kelly claimed that roses were provided in her room at the England camp.

That is just as significant to brands, according to Kemp as Kelly’s 68mph penalty in Basel.

” It is wonderful to see her on the front of every newspaper, but it is almost bigger than that, “she said.

We perpetuate an impossible stereotype about female footballers.

Similar to the celebration after scoring against Italy from a rebound following her own missed penalty, Kelly is a proud, cocky footballer who is unafraid to celebrate her tournament-winning penalty with a self-assured shrug to the fans.

Before the final, England team-mate Lucy Bronze said, “She has been doing it week in, week out, and she just has this attitude and this confidence that I don’t think you can buy.

” To miss a penalty, score the rebound and then tell everyone to calm down is hilarious in itself, “former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha said.

She is adamant that she will have a moment when she pitches. She is who she is.

Kelly celebrates her London roots, her close family in which she is the youngest of seven siblings, and her love of hip-hop.

Kelly told Romesh Ranganathan on Radio 2 that she “loves to listen to music.” I support people in my area like AJ Tracey, and because my mother always had the radio on, I enjoy listening to his music. He’s a friend of mine. It’s really encouraging to see West London currently flourishing in the music industry.

Kelly is also unafraid to voice her opinion. In February, Sarina Wiegman left Kelly out of her squad for Nations League games against Portugal and Spain. She had been playing football since mid-December when she stopped playing because of her swank at her former club Manchester City.

She obtained a loan from Arsenal after posting emotional social media messages accusing City of spreading negative stereotypes about her. The club never commented publicly about Kelly’s remarks.

We have always supported her, even though I’ll never know exactly how she feels. She had a lot of fans in the changing area, according to MacIver, 27.

The switch paid off and just four months after moving to north London Kelly was lifting the Champions League trophy with her new team-mates.

Some people’s career-spanning six months of Chloe’s playing career would be what some people would achieve, said former England midfielder Izzy Christiansen.

She has the ability to support her claim in front of the media by giving evidence that she is not afraid to speak her mind, which Chloe has done.

“She has struck a lovely balance between performance and personality”.

Kelly hasn’t been shy about revealing that she nearly gave up on football.

“Chloe has always loved football, but it was challenging to see that as a friend or team-mate,” said MacIver, 27. “She was not able to showcase what we have seen in Euros, but she has never shied away from a challenge.

She said, “Looking back on the journey, I’m really proud.” To begin with, it was a challenging one. Thinking about giving up the game that we all love is really difficult but sometimes you need to look after your mental health and that was really important to me. “

The Lionesses were regarded as the ideal example of female athletic excellence after Euro 2022. Kelly claims that allowing our female football icons to be imperfect will be the next step.

” We create a stereotype that is impossible for women footballers to live up to, that can be quite oppressive from a marketing perspective, “she said.

They can have incredible personalities and be an incredible athlete. You wouldn’t want Kelly in just one area because she has a lot of flair.

Jack P Shepherd has dubbed some of his recent wedding guests “f***ing idiots” for asking a specific question about the proceedings. In a new episode of the On The Sofa podcast with fellow Coronation Street stars Colson Smith and Ben Price (recorded prior to his marriage to Hanni Treweek), the David Platt actor opened up about his wedding preparations.

On Saturday (July 26), the happy couple tied the knot at Manchester Cathedral, surrounded by loved ones. It included his podcast co-hosts, Colson and Ben, who would serve as his groomsmen on the day.

Jack noted at the time of the recording that it was the “kick-b*****k scramble” week before the wedding, a time when they had to address the “nitty gritty bits”, prompting Colson to ask if there had been any cancellations.

“Well, where do we get ready, because the wedding is at two, but we can’t check in until three,” Jack said. ‘ I said, ‘At f***ing home, you idiot. If you can’t get ready in the hotel, where do you think you should go? “

Elaborating, he pointed out that people could arrive at the hotel and do what “normal people” do by dropping their bags off. Despite this, it appears that the wedding went off without a hitch.

In what they called “the wedding of our dreams,” Jack donned a red Mustang, a bow tie, and an off-white suit. Hanni reportedly wore a skirt and an off-the-shoulder top while wearing a tiara.

Also in attendance were Jack’s son, Reuben (whose outfit matched his dad’s) and the actor’s on-screen mum, Helen Worth, who was accompanied by her husband, Trevor Dawson.

As they left the venue, the newlyweds could be seen beaming and exchanging a number of kisses as they headed to the wedding car, as white confetti cascaded over them.

When Jack and Hanni were both writing scripts for Corrie, they first met on the set. Fast forward to more than a year ago when Jack proposed while the couple were on a Tanzanian safari.

The soap actor, who was first introduced to the popular ITV series in April 2000, has since grown enthralled with the series.

She claims that Spencer occasionally “thrown a few epic wobblers,” but that she is unaware that their conflicts are the same as those of any other married couple: “Ever since he would threaten to quit, but these are the typical conflicts and dramas of a married couple.”

Spencer’s new solo project, “Untapped,” came shortly after leaving their shared podcast.

Prince Harry will ‘never be forgiven’ by two major royals despite reconciliation hope

A royal expert has claimed that there are two senior royals who will struggle to forgive Prince Harry for his disloyalty as rumors of peace between Harry and King Charles continue to roil.

A royal author has claimed that two senior royals will find it difficult to forgive Prince Harry as rumours of peace talks between the Sussex camp and the royal family continue to swirl. Speculation of a royal reconciliation between Prince Harry and King Charles first emerged when senior aides for both parties were spotted having a meeting in London.

While it is not known who initiated the talks, many believe the Duke of Sussex has reached out to his father to mend their rift ahead of Prince Harry’s trip to the UK in September. Many royal commentators are hoping that the relationship between the father and son can be patched up, however, others are not convinced that the royal family at large will be so quick to forgive.

An one has claimed that two senior royals will “never forgive” Prince Harry after his years of damning exposés against the Firm, including his tell-all interview with Oprah alongside Meghan Markle, and his explosive autobiography Spare.

Royal author Robert Jobson believes that both Prince William and Queen Camilla will have a hard time letting go of the accusations made against them in Harry’s 2023 memoir. Jobson told The Sun : “He’s asking for forgiveness. Well, you know, I think that his father probably will in the long term. I think he probably will. I just don’t see William and Camilla doing it.”

Jobson added that while Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana, also authorised a tell-all autobiography about her time in the royal family, she did not make any profit from the memoir. He said: “She didn’t monetise it for herself. He made a fortune out of it.”

Harry frequently refers to Queen Camilla in Spare on more than 60 occasions, calling her “the Other Woman.” He also claimed that the Queen was “dangerous” and that she had “stole him on her personal PR altar” by allegedly leaking negative news to the press.

Before marrying to Charles, she and her husband, who were grieving the loss of their mother, considered whether she would become his and William’s “wicked stepmother.”

Prince Harry frequently touched on Prince William and his brother, describing both of their early rifts and their ongoing conflict. He even asserted that the brothers engaged in physical altercation.

In his bombshell interview with the BBC back in May, Harry said that “some members of my family will never forgive me” for writing his memoir. But he added: “It would be nice to have that reconciliation part now. If they don’t want that, that’s entirely up to them.”

Royal expert Jennie Bond also believes that it will be difficult for Princess Anne to forgive Prince Harry if the peace talks come to fruition, given his “extreme disloyalty” to the Firm since he quit royal life and relocated to California.

Bond told the Mirror : “To Anne, loyalty is paramount, and I suspect she feels that Harry has been extremely disloyal to his father, his brother and the monarchy. She might well find that hard to forgive.”

Prince William’s sweet admission about Charlotte to Lioness legend revealed

After their incredible Euros win, Prince William seemed to be able to talk to any of England’s Lionesses.

William shares a joke with Michelle Agyemang(Image: Getty Images)

The Lionesses are said to have inspired an entire generation of girls – and it seems that Princess Charlotte could be among them. That’s because, as her dad, Prince William, congratulated the entire team following their epic Euros win, he couldn’t help but talk about how Charlotte had been inspired by one player in particular, according to a lip reader.

Charlotte joined her dad in Basel, Switzerland, for the game, with England beating opponents Spain in the final after a tense penalty shoot-out. Following the match, the royal pair made their way pitchside, where William congratulated Sarina Wiegman and their entire squad on their achievement.

And according to professional lip reader Jeremy Freeman, he had a special message for breakout star of the tournament, Michelle Agyemang.

As Michelle approached the Prince of Wales, who is patron of the Football Association, before getting her winners’ medal, Jeremy believes William told her: “Michelle, well done, honestly, you played a good tournament, you are so inspirational to Charlotte, well done.”

It was immediately after he spoke with manager Sarina when Jeremy reacted with faith when William said to her: “We get to do it again, well done, hey, amazing. Penalties to pay, eh”

However, this wasn’t William and Michelle’s first encounter of the evening. He and her were introduced moments earlier when she was named the tournament’s youngest player.

And Jeremy claims that William once asked the 19-year-old, “Michelle, what did I tell you?” I did . What a player, fantastic and excellent.

William and Charlotte sent an update to the England team via the Kensington Royal social media accounts shortly after the Lionesses won.

What a game! wrote the father-daughter duo. We couldn’t be prouder of the entire team, Lionesses, you are the champions of Europe. Enjoy this moment, England. W &amp, Charlotte”.

King Charles also praised the Lionesses on social media, saying, “This brings you, your manager, and all your support team my most heartfelt congratulations on winning the Euros 2025. Fans of England have sung the renowned adage “football’s coming home” for more than I can recall.

However, you have demonstrated through your example over the past few weeks that no setback can be overcome by defeat, even as the final whistle looms, beyond that. Bravo, Lionesses. If you can, you should win the World Cup in 2027 as soon as possible.
