Portugal defeated Germany 2-1 in their Nations League semifinal on Wednesday thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s comeback from behind.
Five minutes after substitute Francisco Conceiço equalized with a blistering shot in the 63rd, Ronaldo, 40, captained Portugal and scored his 137th international goal.
Ronaldo’s “curse” against Germany came to an end, making him the oldest player to ever score against the country. The former Real Madrid player lost each of his previous five games against Germany.
Florian Wirtz, a Liverpool target, had given the visiting side a 48th-minute lead with a superb header inside the right post, but Portugal coach Roberto Martnez made his changes count by substituting Conceicao and champions league winner Vitinha.
Just four days after Vitinha helped Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) win the Champions League final against Inter Milan on Saturday in the same stadium, Vitinha excelled as Portugal came out on top.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s best effort was required to keep the visitors from adding more goals.
Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade made his debut for Germany, while PSG wing-backs Joao Neves and Nuno Mendes both started for Portugal.
After passing past Robin Gosens like he was not there, Conceicao only had five minutes to make a brilliant long-range strike inside the far post. Five minutes later, Mendes delivered Ronaldo with a straightforward finish.
Mendes remarked, “There could have been more.”

Due to “adverse weather conditions” in Munich, the match was delayed by 10 minutes.
Earlier in the day, UEFA issued a warning to matchgoers about potential thunderstorms in the Bavarian capital ahead of kickoff.
A storm swept through northern Munich about an hour before the originally scheduled kickoff time of 9 p.m., slapping the stadium with rain and leaving the arena covered in hailstones.
When the storm struck, goalkeepers from both sides had already begun their warm-up.

Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t accomplished many things, but his most recent success was against Germany.
Ronaldo’s record-setting goalscoring debut in the Nations League semi-final in Munich came when he faced the winner, putting an end to a long wait.
The 40-year-old scored 137 goals in 220 games and 937 goals totaling all of football.
These three totals are all men’s records.
However, Ronaldo has never had a worse international performance than that of any other team.
Portugal last defeated Germany at Euro 2000, losing all five of his previous five games against them. That is now five instead of six.
England now has three draws against Ronaldo, which is the record for the nation Ronaldo has played against most. Although this is necessary, the biggest caveat in the world.
Ronaldo has lost four games to France, the most of which he has lost to since Germany.
However, his Portugal side won the Euro 2016 final most famously, and there have been three draws (including a penalty shootout defeat).
Ronaldo only scored once in those five meetings, which spanned 450 minutes, in addition to Ronaldo’s poor goalscoring record against Germany. That’s now two every 540 minutes, or one every 270 minutes.
Ronaldo has scored 85 goals for Portugal since turning 30.
Only five other players, in contrast, have ever scored more than 85 goals.
In other words, in the second half of his international career, he has scored more goals than current stars like Harry Kane and Neymar have, for example. Legends like Ferenc Puskas, Pele, Diego Maradona, and Gerd Muller have.
It’s difficult to describe in words. Roberto Martinez, the Portugal boss, said that he views each day as an opportunity to improve.
When you have success, you wake up and have less hunger, according to the human race. not Cristiano.
While Bernardo Silva, his countryman, stated: “It’s his ambition to keep going.
Being unable to eat every day is never easy.
Ronaldo’s next move is…
After Sunday’s Nations League game against either France or Spain (20:00 BST), it is unclear where Ronaldo’s club’s future will lie.
Ronaldo’s contract with Saudi club Al-Nassr expires this summer, but he has been playing there for two and a half years.
He declared on social media that this chapter was over after their season finale. The narrative ? Still being written. grateful to everyone.
Many people assumed Ronaldo was leaving Al-Nassr as a result.
Ronaldo’s participation in this summer’s Club World Cup was discussed in Gianni Infantino, the Fifa president.
Al-Nassr would have to meet the qualifications to join another team, even if it was only on a temporary contract.
The most closely linked Brazilian team was Botafogo.
Ronaldo has a goal-achieved goal of 1, 000.
Ronaldo must score 63 more goals to become the first player to ever surpass 1,000.
Pele and Romario, two legendary Brazilians, both claimed to have scored more than 1, 000 goals, but neither were acknowledged as such.

In the Champions League final, Cristiano Ronaldo broke his bad reputation against the Germans by winning 2-1 over Germany on Wednesday in Munich.
Ronaldo’s 138th international goal in the 68th minute sealed his longest winning streak against any nation since winning. It was his longest ever goal in opposition to any nation without a victory.
Three minutes after halftime, Florian Wirtz, who had a stuttering opening half, started and cleverly advanced through the middle before heading in the opener.

Germany, which had only lost one of their previous 17 games, suffers from the loss.
Portugal’s four players were already in the lead when the celebrations and Saturday’s Champions League final came to an end, but Germany was the first to struggle to find rhythm.
Due to a violent storm that caused hailstones to strewn across the turf, the game arrived 10 minutes late.
While Portugal’s pressing Jonathan Tah almost paid off, the defender was insecure in possession, despite Aleksandar Pavlovic’s misplaced passes and several mislaid passes.
Ronaldo almost scored the opening goal six minutes into his first game for Germany since September 2024, but his old La Liga sparring partner Marc-Andre ter Stegen claimed it with his shot. He was greeted by Portuguese cheers and German boos every time he approached the ball.
Wirtz opener,
With 18 minutes left, debutant Nick Woltemade had Germany’s best chance in the opening half, but Diogo Costa’s low shot, which was a 1.9-meter-tall striker, was well saved.
When Portugal broke right after halftime, Ronaldo was just inches away from opening the scoring with a clever Nuno Mendes cross that beckoned into the net.
The miss was punished by Germany in less than a minute. Before being laid off for Joshua Kimmich, Wirtz tiptoed down the left to catch three defenders.
The German captain chipped it past the Portugal defense before turning to Wirtz, who skillfully drilled a low header into the bottom right corner.

On the 60-minute mark, Roberto Martinez made three changes, but the difference was in the substitutions’ timing.
Conceicao dropped Robin Gosens with a shimmy close to the half-way line five minutes later before launching a superb curling shot past Ter Stegen in the last seconds.
Ronaldo then scored Portugal’s first goal in his 219th international, cue Ronaldo for his nerveless tap in of a Nuno Mendes pass to make up for his previous errors.
With eight minutes left, Munich-born Karim Adeyemi hit the crossbar, but Germany could not find an equalizer and will need to be content with a third-placed match on Sunday in Stuttgart.

Billy made the cancellation of his shows last month in a social media post. Due to a recent diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), Billy Joel has announced that he will be canceling all scheduled concerts.
Recent concert performances have made this condition worse, causing balance, vision, and hearing issues.
Billy is currently receiving specific physical therapy and has been advised to avoid performing during this recovery period according to his doctor’s instructions. Billie is fully committed to putting his health first, and she is appreciative of the excellent care he is receiving.
He appreciates the fans’ support at this point and looks forward to the day when he can take the stage once more. “I’m sincerely sorry for letting our audience down, and thank you for understanding,” he said.
NPH is a rare and not well-understood condition that typically affects people over the age of 60, according to the NHS website.
Its diagnosis can be challenging because of its symptoms, which are frequently linked to more common conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, mobility issues and dementia.
Fans who purchased tickets to any of the star’s canceled shows will still be credited with their original purchases.

According to Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft and the chairman of the Gates Foundation, Africa’s future will be determined by the investments it makes in its young population.
Gates made the point that Africa’s young population has a unique advantage, but only if the necessary investments are made in health and education, as he did as a panelist at the Gate Foundation’s Goalkeepers event on Wednesday.
“Africa is a very young continent, which is amazing, and I constantly show people this slide.” Over half of African children will be born in the next half of the century. By far, the city (Lagos) in which we are currently located will be the largest city in the world. That will be intriguing and will maintain interest,” he said.
“Africa will remain the most fascinating continent in the coming century because of this incredible offset of its youth,” says the author. In what ways will the investments we make in their health and education over the next 20 years affect how much that youth can actually contribute to progress. There is an incredible future here if we give that priority.

Gates responded affirmatively, citing local success stories, when asked whether he was still confident that Africa and Africans could still accomplish major health goals.
“Well, certainly Gombe State is an example of how the government of Africa is really focusing on the performance of the workforce and being willing to emphasize not just health but also primary health care, even in very tight budget conditions (which is true throughout Africa). And we quickly observe that when that is accomplished, nutrition rates rise, maternal deaths fall, and childhood deaths fall,” he said.
AI is “transforming healthcare.”
Gates also made a note of how innovation and technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), have altered the way healthcare is delivered across the continent.
“AI is progressing,” according to entrepreneurs in Africa, who are creating AI specifically to meet African needs. AI is improving at the global level.
If you combine the development of Africa’s riches, the rise of more philanthropists, the restoration of generosity in wealthy nations, and the sharing of best practices and innovations. Even for things like sickle cell disease, which we need to treat, we have some incredible tools available. It is a dramatic burden.
The co-founder of Microsoft praised Nigeria for its strong local partnerships and expressed hope that the world’s current five million child mortality rate could be reduced from 5 million cases annually.
We’ve had incredible partners in Nigeria who are aware of delivery and how to support government initiatives. In the end, the government bears the costs. We’re here to make those systems faster.
“The African nations will experience real economic momentum over the next 20 years.” It will be a huge help to them in understanding that, simplifying delivery, and lowering costs. For instance, the rates of childhood death, for example, have been significantly higher than I had anticipated. There is a lot to be proud of, but there is even more work to be done, according to Gates.
Foundation for Bill & Melinda Gates
Gates also made a note of the foundation’s recent 25-year work in Africa.
He disclosed that the Gates Foundation has spent $100 billion on global health since 2000, with the majority of it going to Africa.
“When we first started the Foundation in 2000, we firmly believed that all people have equal value. He said that one of our main concerns was reducing infant mortality globally, particularly in Africa.
“So I looked and said, “Are people seriously taking this?” Do they offer cheaper alternatives to traditional treatments, such as buying new malaria tools, or tailoring them to local needs? And no, it was not. That served as the Gates Foundation’s guiding principle.
The Goalkeepers event, hosted by the Foundation for Bill & Melinda Gates for the first time in Lagos, brought together global leaders, policymakers, and changemakers to assess progress toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Aliko Dangote, the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Gombe State, and other dignitaries were among the other notable attendees.
