James Haskell says he’d still be married to Chloe Madeley if he’d stopped doing one thing

After five years of marriage, former rugby players James Haskell and Chloe Madeley decided to call it quits in 2023 and welcomed their daughter Bodhi, a two-year-old.

James Haskell’s depressing divorce from Chloe Madeley has come out.

James Haskell has lifted the lid on his sad divorce from Chloe Madeley in a candid admission. The former rugby star, 38, called it quits with the daughter of This Morning icons Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan in 2023, a year after their daughter, Bodhi, was born.

Bodhi, who they both adore, is still the couple’s child. James has acknowledged that he could have made more effort in the relationship with Chloe, citing one of the causes of their breakup as being drinking. James claimed that the former couple’s final year together was a “difficult period” despite the fact that his love of alcohol contributed to the marriage’s breaking point.

Speaking to the Mail, he said: “If I put more time into my marriage than I did Guinness, then I wouldn’t be divorced now.

I have such a strong love for my daughter and Chloe, but it’s one of those things in life that doesn’t work out. It involves collaboration.

When a marriage ends, it’s all about the kids, as we all know. We are amazing co-parents, Chloe and I. Bodhi is always our top priority.

James also revealed that he’s currently single, having reportedly dated advertising executive Helen Barclay and Big Brother star Sara McLean, 35, earlier this year.

The rugby player claimed that his top priority is “being the best dad in the best order” and that his romantic life is currently in jeopardy.

Chloe, meanwhile, has vowed to stay single. She has spoken openly about the difficulty of their breakup, describing the last year of her marriage with James as “one of the worst periods of my life”. The TV star is not yet back on the dating scene, having remained single since their split.

When a fan on an Instagram Q&A asked: “What do you look for in a guy??” Chloe replied: “I don’t [laughing emoji] I’m very happily committed to being and staying single [upside down smiley face emoji].”

After James was spotted with Sara at the Cheltenham Festival, the personal trainer took to social media to share a very cryptic post.

A sheep with a giant bucket covering its head was captured on video by Chloe, who captioned it “Me.” It’s really nice inside.” She’s at a point in her life where peace is a top priority and negativity cannot exist, according to the audio’s subtitles. She no longer has the same level of energy.

She is merely removing herself from any circumstance that doesn’t resonate with her soul. She’s moving on, then, if you start moving funny.

Chloe later stated in her Stories that she is “more joyful than I’ve been in years and I’m not emotionally involved in anyone else’s love life in any way, shape or form.”

Dutch Prime Minister Schoof resigns after far-right Wilders quits coalition

Just hours after far-right icon Geert Wilders withdrew support for the coalition government in an immigration-related row, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof announced his resignation.

Wilders announced on Tuesday that his Party for Freedom (PVV) had withdrawn from the right-wing coalition because its three partners had failed to support his efforts to restrict immigration. This caused the government to go into a bind.

“No signature required by our asylum plans.” After a brief meeting of party leaders in parliament, the PVV leader said in a post on X.

Schoof announced he would step down following an emergency cabinet meeting that was set up following Wilders’ announcement.

According to the Reuters news agency, Wilders’s PVV ministers would leave the cabinet, while the rest would continue to serve as a caretaker government, adding that any new elections are likely to be held until October.

‘Irresponsible’

Wilders’ coalition partners accused him of putting his country’s interests before those of his own at a crucial time for Europe.

“Our continent is in a war,” he declared. Wilders is demonstrating that he is unwilling to accept responsibility, according to Dilan Yesilgoz, the leader of the conservative People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy.

The center-right leader of the centrist New Social Contract, Nicolien van Vroonhoven, described the flamboyant far-right figure as “irresponsible at this point.”

The Labour/Green Left alliance’s leader Frans Timmermans said he could not “see any other way to form a stable government” than through early elections.

Dilan Yesilgoz, leader of the right-wing People's Party for Freedom and Democracy, arrives for a meeting in The Hague to discuss Geert Wilders' immigration demands.
People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy leader Dilan Yesilgoz claims she was “shocked” by Wilders’ action.

The Netherlands’ “Demise”

The PVV capitalized on Europe’s rising populist tide with promises to combat immigration to claim the most votes in the November 2023 elections, which came in at 23 percent.

However, Schoof, an unelected career bureaucrat, emerged as a compromise candidate after Wilders failed to win enough votes to become prime minister. There was no ministerial position for Wilders.

Wilders has repeatedly criticized the coalition for putting his party’s immigration proposals into practice.

The PVV’s support has dropped to about 20%, matching its polls-reported level with the Labour/Green Left alliance, despite continuing to be popular.

Wilders urged the coalition to approve a 10-point plan to reduce immigration, including mobilizing the army to patrol Dutch borders and rejecting all asylum requests last week.

As he explained his exit, Wilders told reporters on Tuesday, “I signed up for the toughest asylum policy and not the Netherlands’ downfall.”

The decision comes a day after Karol Nawrocki, a nationalist conservative, was declared the winner of Poland’s presidential election, giving right-wing populists a leg up in Europe.

Law change on ‘double-touch’ penalties after Alvarez row

Reuters

Accidental “double-touch” penalties will only be permitted to be recovered if the kick was successful.

Following controversy in Atletico Madrid’s Champions League last-16 second-leg tie against Real Madrid in March, European football’s governing body Uefa requested that the laws governing these uncommon circumstances be revised.

Julian Alvarez, an Argentina international, slipped as he converted on a penalty kick and made a slight contact with the ball with his standing leg.

Real won the shootout and made it to the quarter-finals, much to the home side’s fury at the time and later.

Atletico inquired with Uefa about the validity of Alvarez’s penalty, but the governing body insisted that “under the current rule, the video assistant referee (VAR) had to call the referee to signal that the goal should be disallowed.”

The kicker must not play the ball again until it has touched another player, according to Article 14.1.

However, Uefa stated that it would be in discussions with Ifab and Fifa, the world’s governing body, regarding instances where a double touch is “clearly unintentional.”

The law does not specifically address what to do in the event of an accidental double-touch, and Ifab has since stated that referees have “understandably” been penalizing players at this point.

The board clarified that all national associations and confederations have received clarification because Law 14’s main goal is to address deliberate double standards.

Ifab acknowledged that a double touch could not possibly be deemed a goal and that such kicks could stand as a goal because the ball’s altered trajectory could prejudice goalkeepers.

However, it has now clarified that a “double-touch” kick that was scored accidentally should be retaken rather than ruled out.

An indirect free-kick will be awarded to the opposing team if they are unsuccessful during a game or when they are missed in a shootout.

The updated law will take effect on July 1st, but Ifab asserted that competitions may use it starting after that date.

Sabalenka to face Swiatek in blockbuster semi-final

French Open 2025

Location: Roland Garros, May 25 – June

In a sensational French Open semi-final between two title contenders, world no. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will face three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek.

On a blustery Court Phillippe Chatrier on Tuesday, Sabalenka defeated China’s Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 in a tight quarter-final.

Swiatek from Poland then defeated Elina Svitolina 6-1, 7-5, to win the final four match.

In October of last year, Sabalenka, a Belarusian, replaced Swiatek, who is currently fifth overall.

The pair have met 12 times, with Swiatek leading 8-4 in a straight-aison encounter. However, since the US Open semi-finals of 2022, they have not met in a major.

Sabalenka is competing for her first Paris trophy, while Swiatek has won four of the previous five Roland Garros titles.

“Aryna has a game for every surface,” Swiatek said, “so I need to focus on myself, do the work, be brave in my shots, and just go for it.”

Sabalenka advances in “A true battle” – Sabalenka.

Sabalenka is the player to beat at the French Open despite Swiatek’s recent dominance.

She has won three titles this year, including one on the Madrid clay, and has now advanced to two finals, extending her lead.

But Madison Keys’ three-set defeat in the Australian Open final was so troubling that she is now attempting to redress it.

Zheng’s optimism was palpable. In May, she broke her six-match losing streak to Sabalenka on the Rome clay and won the match.

However, Sabalenka’s 18 errors were the difference, with Zheng making just 39% of her points after her second serve with 31 unforced errors.

Sabalenka’s game, the wind, and finding herself in the early break in the first set bothered her, but she managed to maintain a 4-4 lead.

The top seed repeatedly rallied from 0-30 down in her service games to keep the second set close in the final tie-break, dominating the outcome with a long-whipped forehand from Zheng.

Before Zheng’s worst game of the match, Sabalenka ran out 4-3 winners, the pair exchanged breaks.

With Zheng serving the match at 40-0, Sabalenka’s quality showed up as she hammered winners past her rival to win the match as quickly as possible.

“That was a real battle,” Sabalenka said, “I have no idea how I was able to regain control of that first set.”

Svitolina is seen off by “Proactive” Swiatek.

Although Swiatek’s struggles in the run-up to the French Open were well documented, there was always a chance that her game would work out in Paris.

A win over Elena Rybakina in the fourth round, with Swiatek coming back from a set and a break down, would have greatly improved your confidence.

Although the scoreline suggested the first set was closer, Swiatek’s break was inevitably inevitable.

Swiatek, one of the top scorers, broke five games in a row to deflate Svitolina before winning the first of three of her opening contests.

Svitolina, who has added more attacking to her game since returning from maternity leave, opened the scoring with a 3-1 run early in the second set through some strong hitting.

However, in the following game, Swiatek resurrected and capitalized on a sluggish Svitolina service match to regain the break lead before serving the match.
