Senegal Stun England, Become First African Side To Win Three Lions

England slumped to a 3-1 home friendly defeat by Senegal on Tuesday to ramp up the scrutiny on boss Thomas Tuchel one year out from the World Cup.

Goals from Ismaila Sarr, Habib Diarra and Cheikh Sabaly inflicted England’s first ever defeat against African opposition at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground after Harry Kane had given the hosts an early lead.

Tuchel was scathing in his criticism of his side’s dreary display in beating minnows Andorra just 1-0 in World Cup qualifying on Saturday.

The German, who was appointed with the task of ending England’s wait since 1966 for a major tournament win, suffered his first defeat in four games in charge.

“We need to see the players under these kinds of conditions against one of the top 20 teams in the world to be smarter,” said Tuchel.

“We don’t go next week to the World Cup. We go in one year.”

Tuchel responded by making 10 changes, with Kane the only player to retain his place.

It took just seven minutes for the Bayern Munich striker to maintain his record of scoring in every game since Tuchel took charge.

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy should have done better when he could only parry Anthony Gordon’s shot into the path of Kane, who tapped in his 73rd international goal.

Dean Henderson was given a rare chance to impress in the England goal as Jordan Pickford was relegated to the bench.

The Crystal Palace stopper made impressive saves from his club team-mate Sarr and Idrissa Gana Gueye.

But he was helpless when Sarr made the most of a lack of concentration from Kyle Walker to meet Nicolas Jackson’s cross and fire into the bottom corner.

England had never lost to African opposition in 21 previous matches but Senegal had been beaten just once from open play since losing to the Three Lions at the 2022 World Cup.

“Not good enough. We had moments, but with and without the ball things aren’t clicking, we’re not finding the right tempo,” said Kane.

“We’ve lost that aggressive nature that we had.”

Diarra was afforded acres of room to run in behind the England defence and slot between the legs of Henderson to put the visitors in front just after the hour mark.

Mendy made amends for his role in the opening goal with fine saves to deny Bukayo Saka and Morgan Gibbs-White a swift equaliser.

England thought they had levelled late on when Jude Bellingham smashed home from a corner.

But the goal was ruled out for a handball by Levi Colwill before the ball broke to the Real Madrid midfielder.

Senegal made the most of that reprieve to seal a famous win in stoppage time when Sabaly rounded off a slick counter-attack.

Boos rained down from the disgruntled home support to leave Tuchel with plenty to ponder before England are next in action in September.

Sudanese army accuses Libya’s Haftar of joint border attack with RSF

The Sudanese army has accused the forces of eastern Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar of attacking Sudanese border posts, the first time it has accused its northwestern neighbour of direct involvement in the country’s civil war, now in its third year.

The war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), whom the military also accused of joint involvement in the recent attack, has drawn in multiple countries, while international attempts at bringing about peace have so far failed.

Early in the war, Sudan had accused Haftar of supporting the RSF via weapons deliveries. It has long accused Haftar’s ally the United Arab Emirates of supporting the RSF as well, including via direct drone strikes last month. The UAE denies those allegations.

Egypt, which has also backed Haftar, has long supported the Sudanese army.

In a statement, Sudanese army spokesman Nabil Abdallah said the attack took place in the Libya-Egypt-Sudan border triangle, an area to the north of one of the war’s main front lines, el-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.

He said the attack constitutes “a blatant aggression against Sudan”.

“We will defend our country and our national sovereignty, and will prevail, regardless of the extent of the conspiracy and aggression supported by the United Arab Emirates and its militias in the region,” Abdallah added.

Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the UAE of backing the assault, describing it as a “dangerous escalation” and a “flagrant violation of international law”.

“Sudan’s border with Libya has long served as a major corridor for weapons and mercenaries supporting the terrorist militia, funded by the UAE and coordinated by Haftar’s forces and affiliated terrorist groups,” it said in a statement.

There was no immediate response from Haftar’s forces.

Real reasons Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin split after eight years laid bare

Actress Dakota Johnson and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin separated after nearly eight years together, which reportedly left the Fifty Shades film series star feeling “incredible pain”

Dakota Johnson became unhappy longtime beau Chris Martin was “dragging his feet” over their wedding date, sources have claimed.

The couple are believed to have ended their eight-year relationship in part over frustration around this, as Dakota, 35, was “sick” a date hadn’t been set. The pair got engaged years after starting their on-off relationship in 2017, following Chris’ divorce with actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

A source told Page Six: “She was sick of him dragging his feet on setting a date for the wedding.” Chris, 48, had been married to Gwyneth for 13 years and has two children with the actress.

And other sources close to Dakota and Chris understand the couple have had disagreements about having kids together. Another insider said: “They broke up over Chris Martin not wanting to have more kids.”

Unlike the Coldplay singer, Dakota has never been married previously and she doesn’t have any children. A source previously told the Sun: “They really tried to work through their issues but the age gap was often a problem. She’d [also] expressed that she may want children in the future, whereas Chris is kind of done with that part of his life.”

The source further told the outlet that Johnson and Martin had been “back and forth on issues for years” — and had discussions about everything, including children.

The split reportedly left Dakota, who was in the Fifty Shades film series and last year’s Madame Web, feeling “incredible pain”. Coldplay’s epic world tour continues and Dakota has been away on shoots for upcoming films Materialists and Verity recently. It is thought their flourishing careers have also provided challenges for their relationship.

A source had told The Sun: “Dakota wanted this relationship to work. She not only loves Chris, but his two kids, and that loss feels incredibly painful. The decision to end things was amicable, but Dakota is finding it hard. Over the past year, it became clear that their relationship had stalled and wasn’t moving forwards.

“Settling down, as in Chris properly taking his foot off the pedal, isn’t going to happen. And, ultimately, it was one of the many straws that broke the back of them.”

When news of the couple’s split emerged recently, an insider told the press: “They just haven’t been able to figure out to make it official. Dakota held a flame for them to be together because she loved him so much and loved his kids so much.

Republic of Ireland ‘sloppy and boring’ in Luxembourg draw

Inpho

Republic of Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson bemoaned his side’s “sloppy” and “boring” performance in their 0-0 friendly draw with Luxembourg.

Despite twice hitting the woodwork, it was a laboured performance from the Boys in Green, who lacked the intensity that was evident against Senegal in Dublin on Friday.

Hallgrimsson was disappointed with their showing against a side ranked 31 places below them by Fifa in their last game before the start of World Cup qualifying in September.

“Let’s be honest, we’re not happy with this performance,” the Icelander told RTE.

“It is good to keep a clean sheet, it’s the first one since I have come in, but we all felt the first half we were sloppy and the game was boring.

‘We must play the same way against everyone’

Having endured a difficult start to his reign – which included a resounding 5-0 Nations League loss to England at Wembley – Hallgrimsson has overseen steady progress in 2025.

Two wins against Bulgaria in the Nations League play-off and a credible friendly draw against Senegal helped lift their spirits going into Tuesday’s game.

But while the goalless draw against Luxembourg stretches their unbeaten run to four games, Hallgrimsson called for improvement before September’s qualifiers against Hungary and Armenia.

“We changed in the second half, more tempo and won more duals but not good enough,” he added.

“We go in September and play the higher ranked team first and then the lower ranked team away so this is something we can learn from, we must play the same way against everyone, whether an end of season friendly or a group stage game.

Taylor Swift files restraining order against stalker: she fears ‘immediate harm’

Pop star Taylor Swift has filed a restraining order against a man she claims visited her Los Angeles home multiple times and made concerning statements about her

Taylor Swift has taken out a restraining order against an alleged stalker, citing “emotional distress” and fears of “immediate harm.”

The pop sensation sought legal protection on June 6 after claiming a man repeatedly turned up at her Los Angeles residence, professing she is the mother of his child. In her court filing, 35 year old Taylor detailed allegations against 45 year old Brian Jason Wagner from Henderson, Colorado, accusing him of making delusional claims about residing at her property.

She further asserted that the man harboured illusions of “being in a relationship with me … believing I am the mother of his son … [and] needing to see me in person.”

The ‘Cruel Summer’ singer branded these assertions as “untrue and disconnected from reality.”

Her petition recounts that the individual first appeared at her home on July 9, 2024, and allegedly made several more visits within the same month. Taylor’s statement to the court reiterated: “During each of these visits, I am informed that Mr. Wagner made various statements about living at my property (not true), being in a relationship with me (not true), believing I am the mother of his son (not true), and needing to see me in person, all of which are untrue and disconnected from reality,”, reports the Mirror US.

Taylor Swift has taken legal action against an alleged stalker named Wagner, who reportedly showed up at her LA home on two consecutive days, May 21 and May 22 this year. According to court documents obtained by The Mirror US, Taylor stated, “I am informed that on May 21, 2025, and May 22, 2025, Mr. Wagner again appeared at my Los Angeles property asking to see me personally and stating that he was there checking on a friend (again, this is entirely untrue).”

The ‘Shake It Off’ singer’s security team discovered through a criminal history report that Wagner had been previously jailed, where he penned lengthy writings about his obsession with her, detailing a non-existent romantic relationship and involvement in her personal life.

Swift further claimed that Wagner bombarded her staff with “hundreds of emails with similarly concerning and threatening language” and shockingly altered his driver’s license address to match her LA residence. In a firm declaration, Taylor asserted, “I have no relationship with Mr. Wagner and have never met or communicated with him. There is absolutely no legitimate reason for him to be attempting to contact me or my staff, to approach my home, or to make representations that he lives there.”

Taylor Swift has expressed grave fears over her safety in a recent court filing, claiming, “I do not share publicly where I reside and have never shared my address or the location of my Los Angeles residence with Mr. Wagner. Therefore, the fact that Mr. Wagner has determined where I reside and visited the property several times, refusing to leave and claiming to need access, makes me fear for my safety and the safety of my family.”

Her legal declaration also states, “The fact that both of these recent visits and Mr. Wagner’s inappropriate and threatening communications to my staff about me have escalated in recent weeks creates a fear of imminent harm.”

A restraining order, issued on June 9 and effective until a court hearing on June 30, strictly forbids Wagner from contact with Swift, maintaining a 100-yard distance from her, her home, her car, and her workplace.

The document asserts, “If an officer has probable cause to believe that the restrained person had notice of the order and has disobeyed the order, the officer must arrest the restrained person.”
