Brazil, Ecuador Qualify For 2026 World Cup, Uruguay On Brink

Brazil booked their place at the 2026 World Cup in North America on Tuesday with a lackluster 1-0 home victory over Paraguay, the first win of Carlo Ancelotti’s reign.

The five-time world champions punched their ticket to the finals in Canada, the United States and Mexico thanks to Vinicius Jr.

The Real Madrid star poked in from close range in the 44th minute in Sao Paulo after a cross from new Manchester United signing Matheus Cunha.

It was the perfect gift for the Italian Ancelotti on his 66th birthday, having seen his new side held 0-0 by Ecuador last week in his first game as coach.

Former Real Madrid boss Ancelotti praised his team’s “commitment” and “attitude”.

“It was a good match with a very good first half, although obviously we suffered a bit because Paraguay are very solid opponents and we slowed down a bit in the second,” he said.

Uruguay’s 2-0 win over Venezuela in Montevideo had raised the prospect of qualification for both Brazil and Paraguay at Corinthians Arena.

Paraguay needed only a point to qualify while Brazil knew they could advance with a win.

In the event it was Brazil who seized the opportunity presented by Venezuela’s loss with Vinicius scoring the only goal just before half-time.

Brazil had struggled to create many chances up until that point, with Cunha squandering a golden chance in the 35th minute after heading wide from point-blank range.

Cunha made up for it with a key part in the goal, capitalizing on good work from Raphinha to dart into the box and whip in a low cross for Vinicius, who stabbed home the finish.

The win lifted Brazil into third place in the South American standings with 25 points from 16 games, guaranteeing them a top-six finish and an automatic qualifying berth.

Looking ahead to next summer, Ancelotti said he had “a very long list” of 70 players in mind, including Neymar, who was missing with injury.

He added: “I really liked those who were with me in this squad for their commitment, their attitude, and the atmosphere.”

The defeat left Paraguay with 24 points, meaning they need one point to secure their first World Cup appearance since 2010.

Surprise package Ecuador joined Brazil by sealing qualification with a point following a 0-0 draw with Peru in Lima.

In other games, Uruguay edged closer to qualification with their win over Venezuela while Chile were eliminated with defeat to Bolivia.

Goals from Rodrigo Aguirre and Giorgian de Arrascaeta secured all three points for Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay to leave the two-time world champions firmly on course for a place in next year’s finals.

Like Paraguay, Uruguay need only a point from their final two games to qualify.

Venezuela, who are bidding to reach the World Cup for the first time in the nation’s history, are seventh with 18 points from 16 games.

Argentina, who have already qualified, came from behind to frustrate Colombia with a 1-1 draw in Buenos Aires.

Liverpool star Luis Diaz fired Colombia into the lead with a superb 24th minute goal, and the Colombians were given a further boost midway through the second half when the world champions were reduced to 10 men after Enzo Fernandez’s dismissal.

But Colombia’s hopes of a vital win were dashed nine minutes from time when Thiago Almada weaved into the box and found the target to level.

The top six finishers in South America qualify automatically for the World Cup, with the seventh-placed team advancing to an intercontinental playoff.

Bolivia defeated Chile 2-0 to end the former South American champions’ hopes of qualification.

It is the third straight World Cup that Chile have missed out on.

The loss continues a dramatic fall from grace for “La Roja”, who won back-to-back Copa Americas in 2015 and 2016.

Sharon Osbourne axes huge band from Ozzy’s farewell Black Sabbath gig after bust up

A furious Sharon Osbourne dropped a band from Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s Back To The Beginning concert after having a “huge to-do” with their manager. It so far remains a mystery which band are no longer playing the charity concert on July 5 at Birmingham’s Villa Park as a result of the fallout with music mogul Sharon.

She told Metal Hammer: “I had a huge, huge to-do with a manager over this celebration for Ozzy and Sabbath. And it was probably the worst way I’ve felt in years.

“I don’t care what this person says about me, thinks about it, because he doesn’t know me. And he’s now going around making up bull**** lies because I threw his band off the bill.”

There was speculation that Tool were the band in question after their name was removed from the lineup online, however, it has since returned.

Sharon continued: “Because do you know what? I don’t love them. I care about people who love me, what they say about me. You can’t care what an industry says, because you don’t love them, so how can it hurt you? It doesn’t.”

The lineup also includes Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan, Duff McKagan and Slash of Guns ‘N Roses, Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, Korn star Jonathan Davis, Anthrax, and Wolfgang Van Halen.

The concert is set to be Ozzy’s final show after he was struck by a series of health issues, and he recently admitted the impact of preparing for the gig. He told the ‘Ozzy Speaks’ podcast on SiriusXM: “All I can say is I’m giving 120 percent. If my God wants me to do the show, I’ll do it.”

The performance at Villa Park marks Ozzy’s first live appearance since 2018 and follows a series of health setbacks, including his 2020 public disclosure of a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis.

He added on his podcast about the mental toll of preparing to return to the stage: “My head’s crazy. ADHD – I have that badly. I will have done the show and died a death before I even started my exercises. So I try and put it on the back burner. I’m not going up there saying, ‘It’s going to be great. I’m really confident.’”

Ozzy recalled a specific instance of intense fear before a previous show, saying: “I remember being in fing Vegas one time being in the dressing room going, ‘I’m going to play. I’m going to die’. And I talked myself into blowing the gig. It was only two f-ing songs.”

Referring to his wife, he added: “Sharon goes, ‘Just don’t think about it.’ I obsess about a f-ing bird c******* on my show.” Ozzy’s preparation for the show includes rigorous training.

He said: “I have got this trainer guy who helps people get back to normal. It’s hard going, but he’s convinced that he can pull it off for me. I am having my blood pressure taken 15 times a day. I’ve got this f***ing device on my finger. It’s a monitor to say how my heart rate is.”

Ozzy also admitted he is still uncertain whether he will perform standing up or seated, following multiple spinal surgeries related to a 2003 quad bike accident at his Buckinghamshire home.

A fall in 2019 displaced metal rods inserted into his back from the crash, which he said has caused more complications than Parkinson’s itself. Ozzy was diagnosed with a mild form of Parkinson’s in 2003 and delayed going public with his news until 2020.

Dakota Johnson has revealed the one rule her partners must stick to in the wake of her breakup with Coldplay’s Chris Martin. The Fifty Shades of Gray star, 35, has reportedly called it quits with the Fix You singer, 48, after eight years together.

Dakota, who is currently starring in the flick, Materialists, in which her character boasts several love interests – including Marvel star, Chris Evans – was pretty clear about the one thing her prospective partner must not be as she opened up about her expectations. Speaking to Craig Melvin on the June 9 episode of Today, she stated: “Just, like, not an a**hole.” Chuckling, Chris, who was seen looking cosy with Dakota during the New York premiere of their film on the weekend, replied: “That’s concise. There it is. Nail on the head.”

Dakota’s blunt reply comes amid reports that she and Chris Martin have called it a day. On June 4, it was reported that the couple—who first sparked dating rumours in 2018—had gone their separate ways.

The actress’ rep was forced to deny break-up rumours back in August 2024 and then almost a year later, Dakota was seen out in New York without her engagement ring.

Neither Dakota nor Chris has confirmed or spoken about the reports yet, but a source has claimed that the rumoured split has been “painful” for the daughter of Melanie Griffiths. Speaking to the Sun, they revealed: “Dakota wanted this relationship to work.

“She not only loves Chris, but his two kids, and that loss feels incredibly painful. The decision to end things was amicable, but Dakota is finding it hard.

“Over the past year, it became clear that their relationship had stalled and wasn’t moving forwards.”

However, Chris—who shares kids Apple Martin, 21, and Moses Martin, 19, with ex Gwyneth Paltrow—is still supporting his ex as he encouraged them to see her new film.

During his June 1 Coldplay show in California, he told the crowd, “Be kind to yourself, be kind to each other. Don’t forget to see Materialists!”

Dakota was seen looking very cosy with her Materialists co-star at the New York City premiere of her new movie on Saturday night.

While she attended the event and posed for photos, the actress had Chris Evans’ arm tightly wrapped around her waist.

Dakota looked in high spirits as she stood in front of the cameras with the Marvel star, but it wasn’t him she locked lips with. In the absence of Pedro Pascal, who also stars in the film as the actress’ ‘perfect match’, she held up a cardboard cut-out of her on-screen love interest and kissed his photo instead.

Red flags of ulcerative colitis as TOWIE’s Chloe Meadows shares health struggle

Chloe Meadows has opened up about her battle with the condition after first noticing unusual symptoms at 16 years old

Chloe Meadows openly discussed her struggle with ulcerative colitis on Dr. Oscar Duke’s Bedside Manners podcast, revealing that she ignored warning signs for almost ten years. The 33-year-old reality star recalled noticing blood in her stool at the age of 16 while attending boarding school.

“I remember I told my mum and was like there is quite a lot of blood down the toilet,” Chloe, who once starred in The Only Way Is Essex, said. “I’m not really sure what is going on and she, of course, said go to the doctors. I went to the doctors and they said that I would have to have a colonoscopy.

“The doctor referred me and I got this letter, and this is awful, but I got this letter and I just never went to the appointment because I was terrified. It would stop for periods of time so that the blood would go away.

“I’d be like, ‘Oh, cool, it’s gone away, I’m better. There’s nothing wrong with me’. I’d go through years where it wouldn’t happen and then it would happen again, and then it would stop again.

“I just got on with it and ignored it. I think I was scared of having any procedure done.” The podcast episode underscored the importance of recognising this condition, pointing out how frequently people dismiss or overlook symptoms when they occur.

To gain further insights into ulcerative colitis, we interviewed Pearl Avery, the IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) nursing lead at Crohn’s & Colitis UK, who discussed several typical red flags to be aware of.

Ulcerative colitis explained

“Ulcerative colitis is a type of IBD where parts of the large bowel – the colon and rectum – become inflamed and ulcerated,” Avery said. “This can cause worrying symptoms like blood in your poo and frequent, urgent diarrhoea as well as weight loss (because you’re struggling to absorb nutrients) and fatigue.

“Usually, the immune system protects the body, but it’s thought that in colitis it goes wrong and starts attacking the bowel.” Despite this, Avery emphasised that its exact cause remains largely unknown.

She went on: “We don’t know for sure what causes colitis or Crohn’s, but researchers believe it’s a mix of genes, bacteria in the gut and something in the environment that triggers it. There are all sorts of exciting studies happening now to unlock the mystery of what causes IBD and hopefully one day find a cure.”

Typical red flags to look out for

While each person experiences colitis in their own way, certain warning signs should not be ignored. “Some symptoms to look out for include blood in your poo (more than once), urgent and frequent diarrhoea, unexplained weight loss, joint pain and fatigue,” Avery said.

“Constipation can also be a symptom of colitis, as can stomach pain. There is a really handy symptom checker on the Crohn’s & Colitis UK website which takes just 30 seconds to complete and provides support and guidance on when to see a doctor and what to say when you get there.”

When you should seek medical advice

Although symptoms can be easily brushed off as a ‘dodgy tummy’ or something consumed, Avery advised consulting an expert promptly. “If you are seeing blood in the toilet when you poo, having frequent diarrhoea, or even waking up in the night to rush to the loo, then it’s time to speak to someone about it,” she said.

“We know that it’s taking too long for people with Crohn’s and colitis to be diagnosed, but the sooner you start that process and ask for help, the better.”

Diagnosing ulcerative colitis

If colitis is suspected, various tests might be suggested. Avery explained: “One is a straightforward faecal calprotectin test, which analyses a sample of your poo to work out how much inflammation you’ve got going on in your bowel.

“Then you might be referred for a colonoscopy, which is done in the hospital and involves having a scope, or tiny camera, put into your bottom to look around the colon and rectum.”

Treatment options

Currently, a cure for colitis is not available; however, several treatments exist to alleviate its symptoms. These treatments include immunosuppressants and steroids.

Avery continued: “There are new drugs being developed all the time, which is really encouraging. Some people with colitis end up having surgery to have part of their bowel removed and a stoma fitted.

Man City Sign Midfielder Tijani Reijnders From AC Milan

Manchester City on Wednesday announced the signing of Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for £46.3 million ($62.4 million), in time for the midfielder to play in the Club World Cup.

The Dutch international, who has signed a five-year contract, is City’s fourth signing of the week as they step up a radical rebuild following a poor season by their sky-high standards.

The club have also announced deals for Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki, Chelsea goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli and Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri over the past few days.

The total spent is around £108 million, on top of a significant outlay during the January transfer window.

The transfers have been finalised in time for the players to be registered for the group stages of the Club World Cup in the United States, which starts on June 14.

Reijnders, 26, joined AC Milan from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 and scored 15 goals during a disappointing 2024/25 campaign for the Italian club, who finished eighth in Serie A.

He will bolster manager Pep Guardiola’s midfield options following the departure of veteran Kevin De Bruyne.

“I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City,” said Reijnders.

“City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities.

“Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years.”

After four consecutive Premier League titles, City finished a distant third last season and bowed out of the Champions League early.

City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak admitted the club “probably should have been more aggressive” in the transfer market ahead of the campaign.

The club’s feverish transfer activity this month continues an overhaul of the squad that began with the January signings of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis.

City’s director of football Hugo Viana said: “We are very happy that Tijjani has joined us and we’re excited for him to join Pep’s squad.

“He arrives here with extensive top-level experience in Europe, both at club level as well as on the international stage with the Netherlands.

“Tijjani adds extra energy, composure and creativity to our midfield and working with Pep and our coaches will only see him go from strength to strength.”

Guardiola’s men will travel to the expanded 32-team Club World Cup as defending champions after winning the competition under its previous guise in Saudi Arabia two years ago.

They open their campaign against Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca in Philadelphia on June 18.

The summer transfer window opened early to accommodate clubs wanting to sign players ahead of the competition in the US but closed on Tuesday. It reopens on June 16.

2027: Soludo Did Not Endorse Tinubu’s Second Term — APGA Chairman

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa, has dismissed claims that Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term during the president’s recent visit to the state.

Speaking on The Morning Brief, a Channels Television breakfast programme, Ezeokenwa insisted that such interpretations are false and misrepresent what transpired during the presidential visit.

He maintained that Governor Soludo, who also serves as the national leader of APGA, merely welcomed the president and advocated for a unified progressive front to rebuild Nigeria.

“There is a wrong impression of the President’s visit to Anambra. It is wrong to say that Governor Soludo has endorsed President Tinubu’s second term in office. I was present during the President’s visit, and I listened to the Governor’s statement,” Ezeokenwa said.

He explained that the governor used the opportunity to invite the president into a national dialogue among ideologically progressive political parties working together for the country’s good, not to declare support for any undeclared 2027 candidacy.

“What the Governor did was to call on the President as one of the leaders and a member of one of the progressive parties. Because we are trying as much as possible to see how we can make Nigeria work,” he said.

According to Ezeokenwa, Soludo’s comments were made within the framework of his policy blueprint, which encourages cooperation between all parties that share progressive values, regardless of political differences.

He further clarified that APGA has not yet taken any position on the 2027 presidential election, nor has President Tinubu declared his intention to seek re-election.

According to him, additionally, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has yet to release a timetable for the next presidential contest.

“It is the decision of APGA to determine whether we’re going to have a candidate for the presidency next year or not. And Mr. President is yet to declare whether he is running for another term in office,” Ezeokenwa noted.
