Second night of anti-immigrant riots in Northern Ireland town

Violence flared for a second night in a Northern Irish town after “racially motivated” attacks following a peaceful protest over an alleged sexual assault.

Hundreds of protesters, many of them masked, took to the streets of Ballymena on Tuesday, throwing petrol bombs, bottles and masonry as police responded with water cannon.

There was a heavy police presence in one area of the town, about 30 miles (48km) northwest of Belfast, as protesters set fire to a car and barricades. Police also fired plastic baton rounds to disperse the crowds.

The unrest first erupted on Monday night after a vigil in a neighbourhood where an alleged sexual assault had happened on Saturday.

“This violence was clearly racially motivated and targeted at our minority ethnic community and police,” Ryan Henderson, assistant chief constable, said on Tuesday. “It was racist thuggery, pure and simple, and any attempt to justify it or explain it as something else is misplaced.”

Tensions in the town, which has a large migrant population, remained high throughout the day on Tuesday, as residents described the scenes as “terrifying” and said those involved were targeting “foreigners”.

“Last night, unfortunately, has probably scared a lot of people. We are actively working to identify those responsible and bring them to justice,” said Henderson.

Two teenage boys, charged by police with the attempted rape of a teenage girl, had appeared in court on Monday, where they asked for a Romanian interpreter, local media reports said.

The trouble began when masked people “broke away from the vigil and began to build barricades, stockpiling missiles and attacking properties”, police said.

Security forces also came under “sustained attack” with petrol bombs, fireworks and bricks thrown by rioters, injuring 15 officers, including some who required hospital treatment, according to the force.

Four houses were damaged by fire, and windows and doors of homes and businesses were smashed.

Northern Ireland saw racism-fuelled disorder in August after similar riots in English towns and cities triggered by the fatal stabbing of three young girls in Southport, northwest England.

Singer Katy Perry and British actor Orlando Bloom are reportedly on the verge of splitting up. The couple, who share 5-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, are said to have ended their engagement but are holding off announcing the sad news until Katy has concluded her world tour.

The Roar hitmaker, who was once married to Russell Brand, began dating the Pirates of the Caribbean in 2016 and the pair got engaged in 2019, the year before they welcomed their daughter into the world.

But after almost a decade together, it’s claimed the famous pair have decided to call it quits following a tough few months professionally for Katy.

The mum-of-one, 40, suffered humiliation when her latest studio album was panned by critics, and her recent trip to space also saw the I Kissed A Girl singer slammed by many.

“It’s over,” said the source. “They’re just waiting until the tour is done before they split.” The Mirror has contacted representatives for Katy and Orlando for comment on this story.

Despite rumours of a separation, Orlando was on hand to support Katy during her space venture in April. Katy kissed the ground and held a flower in the air as she returned from her Blue Origin trip to space and revealed she will write a song about the experience.

The 40-year-old sang Louis Armstrong’s What A Wonderful World as she and the six-woman crew, also made up of CBS Mornings presenter Gayle King, former rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, astronaut Amanda Nguyen and film producer Kerianne Flynn and Jeff Bezos’s partner Lauren Sanchez, entered space.

A video of the crew was shared by Blue Origin on Twitter showing the six women as they reached zero gravity and were able to float around the spacecraft before looking at the camera and saying in unison, “taking up space”.

Katy is also seen holding a daisy which she later held to the air after emerging from Bezos’s New Shepard NS-31, to honour her daughter Daisy, before kissing the floor, and Bezos then congratulated her to which she replied: “Thank you.”

Speaking after her return to Earth, the Roar singer said: “I feel super connected to love, so connected to love. I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside of you, like how much love you have to give and how loved you are until the day you launch.”

Speaking about the tribute to her daughter, Katy explained: “Daisies are common flowers, but they grow through any condition, they go through cement, they go through cracks, they go through walls, they are resilient. They are powerful, they are strong, they are everywhere.

“Flowers are to me, god’s smile, but it’s also a reminder of our beautiful Earth and the flowers here, and god’s smile and the beautiful magic that is everywhere, all around us and even in a simple daisy. So to really appreciate it and remember it and take care of it, protect it.”

Molly-Mae’s sister in furious airport bust-up with passenger who mocks her botched botox

Molly-Mae Hague’s sister Zoe has opened up on a distressing moment when an airport passenger brutally mocked her appearance after she suffered a reaction to Botox

Molly-Mae Hague’s sister has revealed she had a furious bust-up with a fellow airport goer who savagely mocked her. The former Love Island star’s sister Zoe, 28, was the butt of the jokes for one airport passenger who took aim at her appearance.

Zoe is suffering from a droopy eye after getting Botox. It’s the second time in a year that she’s suffered the mishap following the procedure.

However, despite trying to cover up the issue with chunky sunglasses, Zoe removed them to share an “eye update” with her YouTube followers. In the clip, Zoe claimed it looks “a lot worse on camera” but admitted she doesn’t know if that’s just because she is now used to it.

But she admitted the issue has caused problems for her, including an “upsetting” incident while heading to Portugal with pal Fern. “It’s not been good. It’s been causing me a lot of upset.” she confessed while admitting she was glad it is “sunglasses season”.

Opening up on an unpleasant moment from the trip, Zoe expanded: “Just as we landed in Portugal, there was a queue going behind me and a horrible woman – I don’t know if she was drunk, she must have been – was trying to get past me.

“She’s like, ‘Why you just stood there like a d**khead?’ And I was said, ‘Why did you just call me that?'” Zoe explained how her husband then came over before they had a bit of “back and forth” about the whole scenario.

She went on: “He looks at me and goes ‘Sort your daft eye out, you c***’.” Trying to make light of the situation, Zoe said it was just what she needed after trying to cover it up.

“I could have got angry, I could have got upset but yeah fair enough, I couldn’t agree more!” she continued. “But also just like, really just kick me when I’m down, you know? At least let the dust settle – give it another week and then maybe chuck some insults at me!”

Last month, Zoe was on the verge of tears as she updated her fans on her failed procedure. It came after Zoe announced in February that she was experiencing the same symptom as a side effect of having Botox in her face.

The symptom, known as ptosis, can occur if Botox passes into other tissues close to the eye muscles, according to NHS Highland. It suggests that the “temporary droopiness of the eyelid” may last for up to 3 weeks but “will always recover spontaneously”.

She said in the emotional updated in May: “Honestly guys I’m so sad. I’m literally so sad. I went to the same place but she was so so careful and she said that she didn’t put it in the areas where it was gonna cause this ptosis.

“It’s worse than last time so that’s great. I’ve had to cancel some things coming up this week. I had shoots. I had other bits to do but my eye is fully closed, pretty much.”

She went on: “Like, I actually could cry. It’s my own fault I know it is. And like I know I said I wasn’t going to get it again but I just [thought] like ‘surely it can’t happen again? Surely it’s a one-off?'”

Jeremy Clarkson makes shock admission after Jackson’s Farm backlash

Jeremy Clarkson took to social media to seemingly backtrack after his disagreements with two pub consultants on Clarkson’s Farm led to a backlash by social media users

Jeremy Clarkson appeared to backtrack

Jeremy Clarkson has seemingly backtracked after a frosty altercation on Clarkson’s Farm. The former Top Gear host, 65, was seen on a number of occasions bickering with pub consultants Sue and Rachel Hawkins on the fourth season of the show.

However, he has now conceded the pair may have “had a point” in the intense discussions, which led to backlash for the duo. Jeremy initially hired the pair part way through the fourth season of the show in a bid to help get his new pub up and running.

He was hoping the pair, whose career has seen them turn around numerous failing venues, could add the special touch to his The Farmer’s Dog public house. But the personalities seemed to clash as their plans were revealed.

Among the issues Jeremy picked at in their plans was the establishment’s barstools. He also had an exception to the pub’s overall cleanliness on the day it opened. But one huge issues seemed to be the costly transformation of the pub’s decking.

In one scene, Jeremy was left gobsmacked with their pricing. “First on our list, covering the deck with some jumbrellas,” Rachel told the presenter before revealing the quick turnaround that was needed.

“(They’re) three enormous umbrellas to cover the entire deck, approximately £40,000,” she told a bewildered Jeremy. As she and Sue continued to lay out their plans, Jeremey felt the need to bring it back to the costings.

“Sorry, you’re saying words… £40,000 for three umbrellas. £40,000 for three umbrellas!” he gasped. “I’m well aware we need umbrellas, I know that, but I really genuinely believe that’s nuts.”

Rachel quickly fired back with a confident response as to why they were so costly, saying it was due to the size of the space. She also admitted getting smaller offerings would have made it “look like a sea of umbrellas”.

Despite battling their corner, Jeremy rejected the idea and opted for a canopy. However, he soon realised his errors, noting it had left his dining room looking “unbelievably dark”. “That could be an expensive mistake,” he sheepishly concurred.

Such was the clashing, Sue and Rachel ended up leaving the project just 48 hours after opening. Now, despite backlash, Jeremy has admitted he could’ve dealt with things better.

Following the season finale, Jeremy took to social media to offer his input. He admitted he should have listened to the women from the start as h has since had to pay the price for the “jumbrellas”.

“Turns out Sue and Rachel had a point,” Clarkson admitted to his Instagram followers. He added: “@thefarmersdogpub did need big umbrellas after all!!”

Showing the new look decking in the upload, followers questioned whether Jeremy was trying to stop the level of backlash the women received following their exit. One user wrote in the comments section: “I feel this post it to try and halt the backlash the pair have been getting from the show, umbrellas do however look great. Best show I’ve watched in ages.”

Another questioned: “Wonder if he got them for under 40k.”

A new season of Love Island brings a brand new beauty room, and we’ve spotted a few of our favourites in the villa. From e.l.f’s iconic Halo Glow to NYX’s Buttermelt Glaze Skin Tint, the girls are stocked up with all the beauty products they need for the next eight weeks.

However, there was one product in particular that caught eye during Monday nights launch episode and that’s the Beauty of Joseon’s highly rated and viral Daily Tinted Fluid Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF30 PA +++.

Priced at a reasonably affordable £17, this lightweight tinted SPF has blown up on social thanks to its sheer, seamless coverage and ‘glass skin’ results.

Available in 12 different shades, this 100% mineral sunscreen has been designed to be “your skin, but better”, and offer buildable coverage that protects your skin from the sun.

Packed full of hydrating ingredients and shine control, this sunscreen is ideal for everyday wear and those who are looking for a low maintenance base, which is why it is the perfect product to head into the villa, especially with those spanish rays beaming down.

Our head of fashion and beauty recently put this sunscreen to the test and praised it’s serum-like texture and blurring effect. Zoe said: ” When I first applied this, I was almost certain it wouldn’t be for me. It’s water-light, which is really lovely, but it’s so sheer. For a girl like me who has a very shiny face anyway (read: oily), it made me feel like Edward Cullen from Twilight when he goes into the sunshine.

However, once I let it settle in, it really grew on me. It genuinely feels weightless on my skin, and I love the shade choice available. I left this out for my 64-year-old mum to try, and she LOVES it. She says it makes her look so youthful. If you’re looking for an anti-ageing tint, or you love the K-beauty ‘glass skin’ look, this will be for you.”
