Real Madrid have signed Franco Mastantuono, the youngest player to ever feature in a competitive matchfor Argentina, from River Plate.
River Plate will receive 45m euros (£38.5m) after the 17-year-old’s release clause was triggered, which sets a new record for the Argentine club.
The attacking midfielder has regularly played for River Plate’s first team over the past two seasons and is the youngest player to have scored in their derby with Boca Juniors.
Last week, he became Argentina’s youngest debutant in a competitive fixture when he was brought on as a late substitute in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying win against Chile.
His six-year deal begins on 14 August, the day he turns 18.
The Scottish Professional Football League says there is a greater need for football banning orders to tackle “unacceptable” conduct at matches.
In a statement, the league body highlighted the “dangerous, irresponsible and selfish behaviour” from a minority of fans in Scotland.
The SPFL pointed to the use of smoke bombs and flares as a particular concern and welcomed more discussions with Police Scotland and the Scottish government about how best to crack down on the issue.
It comes after Scottish FA chief executive Ian Maxwell insisted he wants to avoid a situation where supporters are banned for using pyrotechnics.
The SPFL confirmed attendances have risen for a third consecutive season and thanked fans for their “incredible support”.
Crowds across all leagues, cups and play-off matches totalled more than 5.3 million, a rise of nearly 185,000 from the 2023-24 season.
“We will be having further meetings with key stakeholders over the summer to review the most recent season and look ahead to 2025-26,” the SPFL statement ends.

Tottenham have filed High Court proceedings against Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s company Ineos Automotive.
Court records show Spurs filed a commercial claim over a terminated sponsorship agreement, though no documents are available.
Ineos Automotive, a part of Ratcliffe’s conglomerate of Ineos businesses, agreed a five-year deal with Spurs in 2022 – before Ratcliffe bought a stake in United.
It meant that its Ineos Grenadier car became the London club’s official 4×4 vehicle partner.
An Ineos statement read: “Ineos Automotive has been a partner of Tottenham Hotspur since 2022, expanding on a partnership agreement that Ineos Group had in place with the club since 2020.
“We have a contractual right to terminate our partnership contract and in December 2024 exercised that right.”
A Spurs spokesperson said the club is unable to comment.
In March, it was announced Ineos had reached a settlement with New Zealand Rugby in relation to a six-year sponsorship deal that started in 2022.
Swansea City have appointed Celtic’s Darren O’Dea as their new assistant boss to head coach Alan Sheehan.
In March, Sheehan added former team-mates Richard Stearman and Mark Fotheringham to his backroom team on short-term deals, with Stearman, 37, continuing his role after Sheehan was appointed Swansea’s head coach on a permanent basis.
That has now seen his fellow Irishman O’Dea appointed as assistant, with the 38-year-old leaving his role on Celtic’s staff as professional player pathway manager and B team coach under former Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers.
Sheehan’s coaching staff will be completed by head of goalkeeping Martyn Margetson and first-team coach Kris O’Leary.
Sheehan said: “I am delighted to have Darren and Richard join the coaching staff.
“They are two guys I trust, and who have an incredible work ethic. They have shown a great desire to be here at Swansea City.
As a player, O’Dea represented the likes of Celtic, Reading, Leeds United, Blackpool and Dundee, as well as having spells in Canada, Ukraine and India.
Dublin-born O’Dea won 20 caps for the Republic of Ireland having played international youth football in the same sides as Sheehan, who is also 38.
O’Dea began his coaching career at Motherwell before returning to Celtic in 2019.
He was initially under-18s boss before stepping up to take charge of Celtic B in 2021, and became player pathway manager in 2024.
Swansea also confirmed that Fotheringham will leave the club to pursue new opportunities, having served as first-team coach alongside Stearman towards the end of the season.
“We want to thank Mark for the role he played towards the end of last season, he was excellent for us,” added Sheehan.

Strictly Come Dancing professional Dianne Buswell delivered a major wedding hint to partner Joe Sugg.
The flame-haired dancer, 36, and her partner Joe, 33 and known for his YouTube fame, hit it off during their stint on the BBC favourite in 2018. The duo shimmied their way to the final while Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton clinched the coveted Glitterball Trophy.
Dianne and Joe’s romance swiftly developed off the dance floor, and they confirmed they were an item later that same year, eventually moving in together and snapping up their first property in February 2021.
Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for Joe to get down on one knee. On her Winning Isn’t Everything podcast with fellow Strictly champ Chris McCausland, Dianne gave a lighthearted message to her other half.

During a conversation about fingers on the podcast, Dianne gestured to her ring finger asking: “What’s that one, your best friend finger?” which led Chris to quip: “It’s the one Joe’s done nothing with.”
To which Dianne replied: “Exactly, we need to remind Joe what that finger holds. That finger is feeling very lonely, it needs something to weigh it down with.”
Following the purchase of their swanky £3.5million London pad in 2021, Dianne said they were “playing their marriage by ear”.
Putting her career at the forefront, she said to the Mirror: “Joe and I don’t really talk about that kind of thing. We’re both so relaxed so we just play it by ear. We really enjoy each other’s company so much and whatever happens, happens.”
Strictly: Dianne cries as she reflects on series with Chris
Dianne has opened up about the duo’s aspirations to eventually build a family. Last year, the Aussie-born Strictly star spoke about the couple’s desire to have children “when it feels right”.
She candidly shared that, just like their wedding plans, they’re not in any hurry to progress in their romantic tale.
Joe Sugg, whose elder sister Zoe is a YouTuber, was 27 when he met Dianne. He has openly declared that Dianne is his first “proper girlfriend”.
In a heartfelt chat with The Sunday Times back in 2021, Joe revealed: “Dianne is my first girlfriend. Other than, like, my pen pal from when I was 10.”

He has also admitted to being somewhat cautious at first about posting photos with his significant other online. Explaining the reason, he said: “My audience was very protective over me. But they instantly accepted Dianne, because we were partnered on Strictly, so after the show finished and we got together, they already felt like they knew her well.”
