Coco Gauff defeated Russian 20th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0, 7-5, to reach the French Open quarter-final for the fifth time in a row on Monday.
Gauff fought through the first set, which was supported by three serve breaks. In the second set, Alexandrova battled more, but Gauff triumphed in 82 minutes.
“It feels great to be back in the quarters here, and I’m really happy with how I played today,” Gauff said.
On Wednesday, the 21-year-old Gauff will face Madison Keys, the current Australian Open champion, in an all-American quarter-final.

Gauff, who is currently competing at Roland Garros, leads all other players with 15 wins on clay this year, just behind Elina Svitolina, who is also in contention.
Gauff, the former US Open champion, claims that regardless of the outcome, she can turn a game in her favor.
After losing in the finals in Madrid and Rome last month, she hopes to win the French Open third time.
Losing the opening set in the first round of both of those tournaments and making the final, as I’ve learned in the past two, particularly in Rome and Madrid, just proves that you must fight for every match and fight for every point, Gauff said.
“Because there is always room for error in a tournament.
So I believe I must continue to do that if I want to remain consistent on tour.
Gauff was just 18 years old when she reached her first Grand Slam final in Paris in 2022.
Iga Swiatek comfortably defeated her on that occasion, but she now feels like she is peaking at the right moment in her quest for a second major title.
Additionally, Swiatek has defeated Gauff twice in the last two Roland Garros matches, winning both in the quarter-finals in 2023 and the semi-finals a year later.
“I think I’m less nervous going into matches, for sure, and having a handle on the ups and downs of a tennis match,” Gauff said.
“I still feel the years here, and I think I get better with each game. I thought about doing that in my 22nd and last year’s as well, and I’m doing it right now.
“Yes, I believe that I can improve at least some of those things if I can continue to improve just a little bit,” he said.
After making England’s 42-player training squad for the tournament, Centre Emily Scarratt is on the verge of clinching a fifth consecutive Rugby World Cup record.
The 35-year-old has represented the Red Roses at four World Cups and wants to become the first English rugby player to compete in five of those competitions.
Scarratt, a member of the Loughborough Lightning, won her first World Cup debut in 2010 at Twickenham Stoop, where England lost to New Zealand in the final. Scarratt has capped 118 times.
Only three players, including Samoa’s Brian Lima and the duo of Italy’s Mauro Bergamasco and Sergio Parisse, have participated in five World Cups.
Former New Zealand fly-half Anna Richards won four World Cups between 1991 and 2010, winning the latter four of them.
Fiao’o Fa’amausili also won four World Cups between 2002 and 2017 in each of her five competitions. Donna Kennedy of Scotland won five World Cups, her first of which occurred in 1994.
The World Cup, which begins on August 22 and runs, is expected to be won by hosts England.
In a thrilling game at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham in April, they won the Six Nations Grand Slam for the fourth time in a row.
Although Megan Jones has made her debut as John Mitchell’s starting outside center, Scarratt continues to make a valuable addition to the squad despite missing out on England’s matchday squad due to their Grand Slam victory over France.
As they count down to their home World Cup against the United States at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light, the Red Roses are on a 25-game winning streak.
For the first time since Monday, the squad has been assembled, and the tournament will have a 32-player roster.
England, who won the 2014 World Cup, narrowly lost to New Zealand at Eden Park in 2022 in a dramatic match.

Sarah Beckett, a Gloucester-Hartpury forward, is once more a notable player.
The 26-year-old, who can play lock or back row, was not selected for the Red Roses’ 2022 World Cup squad.
Beckett was named in Mitchell’s Women’s Six Nations squad earlier this year, but she was unable to play due to a back injury, which cost her the final 35 caps of the year at Six Nations.
Cath O’Donnell, a Loughborough Lightning lock with an ankle injury, has returned to full training and has made it to the Six Nations and the WXV1s.
Millie David and Sarah Parry, both of whom were uncapped in Mitchell’s March Six Nations training squad, were given the nickname.
With a remarkable 17 assists, Bristol Bears’ David, age 19, was the top try-scorer in Premiership Women’s Rugby this season.

Key symptoms of the Mount Etna eruption: health risks posed by exposure to volcanic gases
(Image: Getty Images)
Our News team reported earlier today that Sicilian Mount Etna had turned black. Then, our health team conducted a thorough analysis of the potential health risks, some of which could be significant.
Even if volcanic eruptions are unlikely to cause a significant health risk to residents of the surrounding area, lava and fire are still present. The acidic gases and ash released into the atmosphere could primarily affect the eyes, lungs, and skin.
The International Volcanic Health Hazard Network points out that exposure to volcanic gases can have a variety of effects, depending on how concentrated they are and how long they are exposed. If the CO2 or H2S concentration is sufficient, this could lead to suffocation and death.

Romeo Beckham, who had listened to the PSG coach and how he coped with the death of his daughter, pledged to stop worrying about “small things” in life after Luis Enrique’s bravery.

Romeo Beckham says he must stop stressing about “small things” and called for more “respect” after posting a poignant family message following an emotional weekend.
The model was overcome following his dad David’s former club PSG’s Champions League final win over Inter Milan at the weekend. Manager Luis Enrique was reduced to tears as supporters paid a heartfelt tribute to his late daughter during the pinnacle of their club’s history.
Moments after Marquinhos hoisted the club’s inaugural Champions League trophy, PSG fans unveiled a poignant banner displaying Enrique’s nine-year-old daughter Xana. Xana lost her life in tragic circumstances in 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. Enrique had previously stated that “My daughter won’t be there physically, but she will be there spiritually.” And that is very important to me.
Speculation of tension between Victoria and David and their son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola was initially sparked by an incident over a wedding dress and, three years on, LA-based Brooklyn and Nicola have now reportedly cut contact altogether. Brooklyn is refusing to address the speculation and didn’t mention his parents in his latest cryptic magazine interview.

Romeo posted a video of the PSG coach discussing his trauma and wrote on Instagram: “I watch stuff like this and and look at myself and think why am I stressing about something so small. In the grand scheme of things, love who you love without question, take care of each other, respect each other and enjoy life.”

Enrique fondly recalls Enrique’s thoughts on Xana ahead of the game, “I have incredible memories because my daughter loved parties, and I’m sure she’s still throwing them wherever she is.” After winning the Champions League, I took a photo with her that was incredible, and I later placed an FC Barcelona flag on the pitch during the Champions League final in Berlin.

It comes as a source claims to New magazine that Victoria is struggling with the situation because 26-year-old Brooklyn is “always going to be her baby”. ”He’s her first-born and they’ve always had a wonderful relationship, she feels like Nicola has taken over and it’s really tough to deal with as a mother,” they said.
Brooklyn’s behavior is unacceptable, but David tells Victoria that she is upset because she feels like she’s losing her first child. Because she is so focused on her family, she is concerned that Victoria won’t have any contact with her first grandchild and that Brooklyn and Nicola will start their own families.
15 months after leaving the position, Maurizio Sarri has returned to Lazio as head coach.
Marco Baroni, who led the Serie A team to a seventh-place finish last season that prevented them from qualifying for Europe, is now in charge.
After a fifth defeat in six games, Sarri left the team in March 2024, and he had also been highly critical of the club’s transfer policy.
The former Chelsea boss, who previously held the positions of president and manager of Lazio for three years, announced in a statement that “Maurizio Sarri has returned home.
His return is based on his heart, conviction, and vision. We are aware that we can bring back enthusiasm, identity, and ambition when we embark on a journey that was too abruptly.
Sarri, who was born in Naples, started his banking career by coaching at low-level Italian clubs.
In the early 2000s, he left his day job to concentrate on management, but he didn’t rise to the top of the Italian charts until he led Empoli to promotion in 2013 and 2014.
Sarri then won the title of Serie A manager of the year in 2016 and 2016 while leading his hometown team Napoli to two second-place finishes in three years.
He spent one season at Chelsea between 2018 and 2019, where he won the Europa League and the Carabao Cup final, before moving back to Italy and capturing the title with Juventus the following year.
