Before Tinubu, Nigeria Was Spending Monthly $1.5bn To Subsidise Naira – Reno Omokri

Before President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, a former presidential adviser, Reno Omokri, claimed that Nigeria was subsidizing the naira with staggering $1.5 billion annually, which he claimed was borrowed and “wastefully spent.”

Omokri explained that the funds used to artificially prop up the naira weren’t used to invest in important sectors like healthcare, education, or infrastructure when he spoke on Channels Television’s current affairs program Inside Sources, which aired on Sunday.

The naira was being subordinated by the Federal Government of Nigeria, which spent $1.5 billion each month. Please accept the fact that I’m lying and go back and verify that I receive $1.5 billion each month in funding the naira. And we didn’t have any money for it. We were taking out this sum of money.

We didn’t spend $1. 5 billion each month on roads, education, and healthcare. He claimed that we were using it to pay for the naira.

He claimed that the subsidies were causing unsustainable consumption patterns, including those involving imported luxury goods.

We were importing human hair for our women, and we were spending $200 million annually. According to Omokri, we were spending $ 75 million on French champagne and $ 25 million on Scotch whisky.

Naira Devaluation&nbsp ,

Omokri defended President Tinubu’s decision to float the naira, saying that the current exchange rate, which trades at over $1,500 per dollar, accurately represents its true value without interference from the government.

The naira is now 1 1 560 to the dollar, not because Bola Tinubu was a bad president, the statement goes. No. He claimed that because he stopped subsidizing it and started floating the naira.

The naira was not properly valued under previous administrations, including that of former president Muhammadu Buhari and when he served under former president Goodluck Jonathan, he continued.

When the naira was between $1 and $1, I served as the president’s spokesman. The naira was then being supported. What you were seeing as a Nigerian wasn’t the real value, Omokri claimed.

Omokri praised Tinubu’s fiscal and trade reforms, noting that they have had the same impact as a trade surplus and a reduction in the national debt.

The debt profile for President Tinubu was $ 108 billion. Our current debt is $94 billion. It has decreased by $14 billion. Therefore, it is impossible to describe someone like that as a debtor. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, he stated, has far outperformed the expectations of most honest Nigerians.

He has increased our trade surplus, he claims. Prior to this, we didn’t even have a trade surplus. Nigeria was the top importer of gasoline in Africa when this man arrived. We are not at this time. We are now largely overtaken by South Africa. He claimed that we are now West Africa’s top exporter of gasoline.

Hardship still exists in the land, but Nigeria is not wealthy.

Omokri acknowledged the suffering but insisted that it was a necessary sacrifice for long-term stability when asked whether the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms had increased the hardship faced by regular Nigerians.

There is still a lot of suffering in the land, the author writes. Nigeria is not wealthy. Therefore, you can’t complain and say, “Well, I’m suffering,” if your father is not wealthy and you are. No. Your father is not wealthy. He claimed that Nigeria is a resource-poor nation.

He added that the president’s decision to float the naira has begun to benefit the local economy’s structurally.

President Bola Tinubu did what was successful in Vietnam, which is the reason why we now have a trade surplus. He has inflated the price of imports, leaving Nigerians with no choice but to purchase products made there.

Chris Hughes kisses JoJo Siwa in bed before deleting very intimate post

Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa, the famous Big Brother stars, shared a very cozy photo from their bedroom before taking it out. Their fans are captivated by their blossoming romance.

On her trip to the UK, Chris Hughes and JoJo Siwa have been getting very close.

Chris Hughes posted and swiftly deleted a steamy bedroom snap with JoJo Siwa as fans are convinced it is proof of their romance. The Love Island star, 32, has been getting cosy with JoJo, 22, as she spends time in the UK for her tour.

They have enjoyed meals out, bowling, time with family and have made sure to get plenty of moments alone. Chris and JoJo’s bond has had fans hooked as they are yet to fully confirm the status of their relationship.

Since leaving Celebrity Big Brother, fans have looked for any clues they can to prove the pair are more than friends. It seems the duo are enjoying the attention around their relationship, as they have continued to post some very intimate photos from the bedroom.

Chris and JoJo were snuggled up together in bed when he took a selfie while kissing JoJo’s forehead. JoJo, the reality star, yelled, “Sleeping beauty,” while JoJo, the dance moms star, kept her eyes closed.

The photo was quickly deleted from Chris’ page, which meant it wasn’t updated for long. However, since many fans were able to take screenshots and share them with one another, it was too late to conceal any proof.

After previously claiming to be platonic soulmates, Chris and JoJo haven’t yet commented on reports that their relationship is deteriorating.

JoJo admits she has never felt so special and loved about the fact that fans have been dropping significant hints that they are an item.

Chris flew to Mexico to support the dancer at her show before JoJo left the UK. He even shared a kiss with JoJo while swimming with her mother and manager Jessalynn.

They have previously shared other snaps from the bedroom, as earlier in the week, Chris took to Snapchat to reveal that they were watching Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? together.

Chris had teased himself about cooking a meal for JoJo just before the post. Later, he shared a picture of a table with their meals, one with a lit candle next to their bowls and a vase of roses on the side.

This weekend, JoJo appeared on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch where she revealed how Chris has slotted right into her family. JoJo said: “She (Siwa’s mother) does love him. My parents think the absolute world of him and him and my dad are like best friends.

Chris actually explained to me that they had visited the spa together yesterday. They are essentially their closest friends. She adores him utterly, mama. I’ve never seen my mother be so happy when she watches us.

We feel like we’re a family, she continued. He seems to have been a part of my family for a long time. They all seem to get along just as well as I do, in my opinion.

JoJo explained how they intend to see each other despite their distance, saying that while we both have families, you know, on either end, there will definitely be much more time spent here and, as well, much more time spent there.

FULL LIST: Dembele, Doue Among PSG Players On Champions League Team Of The season

Ousmane Dembele, a striker for Paris Saint-Germain, was named the champions league player of the year on Sunday when UEFA announced the names of seven of the competition’s top scorers.

PSG won the trophy for the first time on Saturday in Munich by defeating Inter Milan 5-0.

Dembele, who had eight goals in the competition, did not score in the final but added two assists, and the UEFA Technical Observer Group applauded his overall performance.

Dembele has “taken on the role of a leader in the Paris Saint-Germain team,” the committee explained. “We saw this in the final with how he worked so hard and was pressing from the front,” he added.

With his cunning movement, deep drop, and deep midfield drop, he “created doubts for his team’s success,” he said.

In addition to Vitinha and teenage attacker Desire Doue, who scored twice and added another in Saturday’s rout, PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, defenders Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, and Nuno Mendes were also in the XI.

Alessandro Bastoni, the team’s defender from beaten finalists Inter, Declan Rice of Arsenal, Raphinha, the team’s top scorer, and Lamine Yamal of Barcelona, made up the quartet.

The UEFA report stated that “we’ve made this selection of players, especially in the attack, to reflect the exceptional mobility that was a key component of the victorious Paris Saint-Germain team’s approach.”

“A flexible team with attacking players who can switch positions is represented by the forward line selected,” says the director.

Due to PSG’s struggles in the group stage of the competition, Doue, who was not a regular starter, won the young player award for Yamal, age 17, in the championship.

UEFA called Doue “a revelation this season” and praised him. He won Player of the Match on Saturday night, becoming the first teenager to score twice in a final, and achieved an incredible breakthrough in the knockout phase.

Dembele’s award may influence the results of the balloting for Ballon d’Or, the annual global player-of-the-year award, which will be presented on September 22.

After PSG won on Saturday, the Spanish coach of PSG declared, “I’d give Ousmane Dembele the Ballon d’Or simply for the way he defends.”

Other contenders for the award include Yamal, Raphinha, and Donnarumma.

Swiatek Passes Rybakina Test At French Open, Alcaraz Eyes Quarters

Elena Rybakina defeated reigning men’s champion Carlos Alcaraz in a last-16 matchup against Ben Shelton on Sunday, keeping her bid for a fourth successive French Open title alive.

The four-time Roland Garros champion was in serious trouble when the second set ended 2-0 for her, who had been struggling for her best form and had not made it to the final since winning the title last year.

But the 24-year-old dug deep to clinch a 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory.

Swiatek wants to become the first woman to win four Roland Garros titles in a row since Suzanne Lenglen did it 102 years ago.

In the final eight on Tuesday, the Pole will face Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, who defeated 2024’s Jasmine Paolini.

Swiatek currently has a 25-match winning streak at the French Open and is credited with a remarkable 39-loss record.

Swiatek and Rybakina had previously met in clay-based matches, and the Kazakh had won both of their opening sets, beating 12 of her confused opponent.

Swiatek remarked, “Well, it was tough, you know, first set I felt like I was playing against Jannik Sinner.”

“I had to do something to regain my composure, but with her playing that way, I didn’t feel like I had much hope.”

In the opening match of the second set, Rybakina threatened to run away with the match when she broke.

However, Swiatek made a remarkable turnaround by turning the tables five times in a row.

With a break to take the final set, the fifth seed appeared to have finally taken control, but it was back to the fifth seed.

Swiatek was one game away from losing when Rybakina had fought back, but she held her resolve to end the contest.

With a comeback of 4-6, 7-6 (8 / 6) and 6-1 victory over the runner-up from the previous year, Svitolina advanced to the quarter-finals, saving three match points in the dramatic opening encounter with Court Philippe Chatrier.

When she takes on Swiatek, the former world number three will compete to advance to her first Roland Garros semi-final.

Svitolina remarked, “I still can’t believe this match ended in my favor.”

“Jasmine was playing really well today, and it was a really challenging match.” I had a really difficult time, but I’m happy I was able to stay focused and fight until the very end.

For the second successive major tournament, fourth seed Paolini faced the same opponent as last month’s winner of the Italian Open.

Zheng Qinwen, the Olympic champion, defeated Russian Liudmila Samsonova, who was 19th-seeded, in a close three-set victory to earn a quarter-final spot.

On Court Suzanne Lenglen, the Chinese eighth seed defeated 7-6 (7 / 5), 1-6, 6-3 to extend her winning streak to 10 matches.

Zheng will face American 16th seed Amanda Anisimova or world number one Aryna Sabalenka in her first Grand Slam contest.

Shelton will be back in action after passing Matteo Gigante in the final 32 after being given a walkover in the second round.

Playing the defending champion, round of 16, on center court, Shelton said, “That’s a pretty cool opportunity, pretty cool experience, that not many people get or see in their lifetime.”

After defeating Australia’s Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3, Tommy Paul will face the winner in the quarter-finals.

In Sunday’s third and final game of the season, Australia’s men’s netball team won 64-32 against England Thorns in a clean sweep of the Aurora Series.

The Kelpies, who had already unassailably clinched the series on Saturday with a 62-30 victory at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, had already clinched the series.

That came after Australia won the opening game 63-34 at Copper Box Arena on May 25.

In Sunday’s final game of the three-match Test series, which was being played for the first time by the two teams in England, the world number ones put together another impressive display to seal victory.

Although their rivals have been competing on the international stage since the 1980s, England’s men only recently played their first international game in 2022.

By the end of the first quarter, the Kelpies, led by the impressive Josh Byron, had a 20-7 lead.

The home crowd led the Thorns in a much more competitive second quarter as the first of a two-header, before London Pulse’s Superleague clash with Leeds Rhinos.

Countryfile’s Matt Baker admits ‘I felt emotional’ after heartbreaking realisation

Former The One Show presenter and Countryfile star Matt Baker is back on our screens with a new series about the British Isles after making an emotional discovery during filming

Matt Baker got emotional during filming

Countryfile host Matt Baker has revealed that he was moved to tears while filming his latest series, particularly when discussing Queen Elizabeth II.

The former The One Show presenter, 47, is back on our screens with Matt Baker’s British Isles on More4.

In the show, he embarks on a journey around the UK, visiting areas that some viewers may be familiar with, while others may not. Among the locations he explores is a Scottish village named Crathie, which holds significant Royal ties.

Speaking to TV Times, the Countryfile star shared: “I also go to the Scottish village of Crathie, outside Balmoral Castle, where locals have mingled with the Royal Family since the 19th century.

“The Royal chaplain, a lovely man named Ken, showed me around the church and I felt quite emotional hearing about the special service held for locals when the late Queen Elizabeth II passed.”

This isn’t the first time the late Queen has been mentioned in recent weeks. Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, claimed that she communicates with the monarch through her corgis.

Sarah, 65, stated that the late queen’s corgis visit her every morning and when they bark, she is “sure” it’s Queen Elizabeth speaking to her.

Addressing the London Creative Women Platform forum, Sarah commented: “I have her dogs, I have her corgis. Every morning they come in and go ‘woof woof’ and all that and I’m sure it’s her talking to me.”

While Sarah Ferguson reminisces about Queen Elizabeth’s beloved dogs, former Royal chef Darren McGrady spills the beans on Her Majesty’s preferred snack.

The culinary expert, who served the Royal Family for an impressive 15 years, divulged to a YouTube channel that the Queen’s go-to sandwich was none other than jam pennies.

He shared: “The Queen was served jam pennies in the nursery as a little girl. She’s had them for afternoon tea ever since.

“It’s simple: just bread and jam with a little butter-usually strawberry jam. We’d make the jam at Balmoral Castle with the gorgeous Scottish strawberries from the gardens.”

In another tasty revelation, Tom Parker Bowles, in his book ‘Cooking and The Crown’, hints at another of the monarch’s favourites, according to GloucestershireLive.
