Eno’s Defection Historic, Will Unlock More Opportunities For South-South — Okpebholo

Umo Eno’s resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been hailed as “historic” and capable of bringing in more investment opportunities for the South-South region, according to Edo State governor Monday Okpebholo.

Okpebholo made the remarks in a statement on Saturday, expressing his sincere thanks to Eno for leaving the APC.

Okpebholo praised Eno’s brave choice to align with the APC’s “progressive ideals” and national vision.

According to him, the action demonstrated a “profound” commitment to the advancement and development of Akwa Ibom State, ensuring its seamless integration into the federal government’s development agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “renewed hope” mantra.

Governor Umo Eno’s choice to join the APC “demonstrates his foresight and commitment to the welfare of his people,” the governor said.

It “signifies a strategic alignment that will undoubtedly increase opportunities, foster stronger collaborations, and accelerate the delivery of democratic dividends to the good Akwa Ibom State,” observed Okpebholo.

Hamas and the media

Another tortured round of negotiations over the cease-fire in Gaza, with Hamas being the only one to bear the blame.

Western media outlets have repeatedly attributed Hamas’ failure to the various ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas. The group’s perspective on the negotiations and the media narratives that surround them is rarely heard in the coverage this week.

‘This £11 dewy face mist makes my 50-year-old skin feel so much younger’ say shoppers

This well-known high street skincare company just introduced a new duo to promote healthy, hydrated skin this summer, and consumers are already in awe of the products.

Nearly everyone’s skin could benefit from extra hydration, especially in the summer, when skin can become dehydrated and dry. A simple two-step cleanser and a face mist are just two ingredients from one of our favorite skincare companies, which costs from £6.50.

The INKEY List has just released a new Hydrating Cream-to-Milk Cleanser, £13, and a Hydro-Surge Dewy Face Mist, £111. The brand is well-liked by customers and beauty editors alike because of its effective formulas and affordable prices. The cleanser can be purchased together for £22.80, which saves you money when purchased together (you also receive a free washbag), and there is also a mini 50ml bottle of it (perfect for travel).

This is the best lightweight face base I’ve found, according to a reviewer who tested 9 skin tints.

In 30 minutes, Trinny London’s new serum, which helps you “age backwards,” and repairs skin.

Any skincare should start with a cleanser, and this new INKEY List one has a lightweight, creamy consistency that’s clinically proven to give 24-hour hydration. One 59 year old called it “truly glorious”, and “rich, unctuous without being cloying, and truly lovely”. Other reviews call it “wow in a bottle”, “one of my favourite products” and “very effective and a good price”.

We adore other creamy cleaners like BYOMA Milky Moisture Cleanser, Skin Rocks The Cream Cleanser, £32, and La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermo Cleanser, £33.50.

The Hydro-Surge Dewy Face Mist from The INKEY List can be used either after cleansing, after moisturiser or SPF, or as needed throughout the day. Tests have demonstrated 12 hours of hydration, and it contains ingredients that provide both instant and long-lasting moisture and a radiant glow.

However, the customer reviews are what are most impressive. “Oh my goodness! One person wrote, “This dewy face mist makes my 50-year-old face feel so much younger.” My skin glows nice and young thanks to the mist. Just the right amount of water to keep hydrated throughout the day. a major change in my skin care regimen.

Another customer described the product as “brilliant refreshing face mist.” It kept my makeup on all day and on my bare face, too! Although I haven’t noticed a scent to this product, the packaging is straightforward and sophisticated.

A third person continued, “This product has become my holy grail for getting the perfect dewy look,” calling it “the perfect product for creating a glazed look.” It instantly gives my skin a dewy, fresh appearance and makes my skin look so glazed. Instantly moisturizes my skin while keeping my skin hydrated throughout the day.

However, one person wrote, “I really liked at first, but it can be a little too much if I’m having a super oily day,” and that even though they liked it, it might not be suitable for oily skin. For dry or normal skin, it’s great, but I’m careful not to overapply it for combo skin. If this sounds like your skin type, you might benefit from using a more mattifying mist, like the £12 La Roche-Posay Serozinc or the £16 PIXI Clarity Mist, both of which are excellent for breakouts.

Final of the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup

St. Helens (0) 6

Try: Gaskin Goal at Mottershead

Wigan (18) 42

The Women’s Challenge Cup was won by Wigan Warriors after their rivals held onto the trophy for the first time by running in seven tries to defeat St. Helens.

When Megan Williams touched down, the Cherry and Whites were already in the lead, and Mary Coleman made a second-minute turn.

After the break, Isabel Rowe picked up where they left off by scoring minutes into the second half with a third try from Emily Veivers, who gave Wigan an 18-0 half-time lead.

Through Katie Mottershead, Saints won the Wembley final on the biggest stage thanks to Eva Hunter, Grace Banks, and Anna Davies.

It ends St. Helens’ run of four straight tournament victories in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, which Wigan have won for the first time since its inception in 2012.

Before this final, Wigan and St. Helens only had one other meeting in the Women’s Challenge Cup, when they met in 2021 and won 36-0 in the quarter-final to advance to their fourth straight final.

In the last five years, St. Helens have dominated the women’s game.

However, a revitalized Wigan has dominated the early Women’s Super League for the first time in stunning fashion starting in 2025, joining Saints, Leeds Rhinos, and York as domestic powerhouses.

Any hint that Leeds would be unnerved by the semi-final defeat was thrown out as a result of Rowe’s stunning performance in beating the team’s previous rivals, who had previously defeated them, to run in through the posts for their first score.

After Faye Gaskin’s kick was scuffled, Wigan then tore through Saints, which made it impossible for Coleman to pass without getting a chance.

The Saints’ 10-metre line was blocked by Veivers, who later went off with an arm injury and was pictured on the sidelines with it in a sling, and managed to force her way through the line with sensational strength to score.

Rowe weaved her way into the first half with her own try after being laser-focused with the boot in the opening stages, stifling any notion that Wigan simply had enjoyed the rub of the green in the first half.

“We’ve won a sizable game,” – reaction

Craig Richards, the St. Helens coach, told BBC Sport:

“First and foremost, congratulations to Wigan, I thought they were fantastic today.

If you don’t get the details right, you end up with what you want to say, “We didn’t quite nail what we talked about, and against a side like Wigan.”

“Your system needs to be where you can find it, and the only way to find it is to stay in.” We let in a few attempts that were foreign because we typically made teams work harder, in my opinion, early on.

We are proud of our side, but this Wigan side is also good. We are aware of this; all we need to do is improve.

Denis Betts, the head of the Wigan Warriors, told BBC Sport:

Although the score line appears very close, the game is really difficult. I just thought our form is excellent and that both teams were very competitive. You saw some very talented athletes competing today.

“I believed Mary Coleman was the player on the field by a long way for 70 minutes.” She is so enthusiastic. She is quick and powerful at both.

They initially feared the outcome of this game. We experienced it now, and we’ve won a sizable game, but the emotions were wild. They can reinvigorate that skill using the game.

Salihi, Hook, McColm, Hardcastle, McGlint, Harris, Gaskin, Stott, Casey, Crowl, Hoye, Rudge, Cunningham, and more.

Whitfield, Mottershead, Sutherland, and Woosey are the exchanges.

Davies, Wilson, Jones, Derbyshire, Foubister, Rowe, Coleman, Wilton, Speakman, Hunter, Power, Williams, all in Wigan.

Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup final

St Helens (0) 6

Try: Mottershead Goal: Gaskin

Wigan (18) 42

Wigan Warriors ran in seven tries to thrash St Helens and win the Women’s Challenge Cup for the first time, ending their rivals’ hold on the trophy.

The Cherry and Whites were ahead inside 10 minutes when Megan Williams touched down and they edged further in front through Mary Coleman.

Emily Veivers charged through for Wigan’s third try and an 18-0 half-time lead, and Isabel Rowe picked up where they left off after the break by scoring minutes into the second half.

Saints got on the board through Katie Mottershead but Eva Hunter, Grace Banks and Anna Davies ensured Wigan would earn a derby win on the biggest stage of a Wembley final.

It is the first time that Wigan have won the competition since its inception in 2012 and ends St Helens’ run of four straight wins in the tournament in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Wigan and St Helens’ only meeting in the Women’s Challenge Cup prior to this final was in 2021 when Saints won 36-0 at the quarter-final stage on their way to winning their first of four finals on the trot.

St Helens have dominated much of the women’s game in the past five years.

But a reinvigorated Wigan have started 2025 in stunning fashion to lead the early Women’s Super League table and join Saints, Leeds Rhinos and York among the powerhouses of the domestic game.

They were mightily impressive in beating last year’s finalists Leeds in the semi-finals and any hint that they would be unnerved by the occasion was banished as Rowe cut through the St Helens defence to feed Williams to run in through the posts for their first score.

Wigan then tore through Saints after Faye Gaskin’s kick was charged down, leading to Molly Jones teeing up Coleman to race through unopposed.

Perhaps Wigan’s finest try came when Veivers, who later went off with an arm injury and was pictured on the sidelines with it in a sling, collected the ball deep inside the Saints’ 10-metre line and managed to batter her way through to the line, showing sensational strength to score.

Any inkling that Wigan simply had enjoyed the rub of the green in the first half was ended as Rowe weaved her way in for a try of her own having been laser-focused with the boot during the opening stages.

‘We’ve won a massive game’ – reaction

St Helens coach Craig Richards told BBC Sport:

“First and foremost, congratulations to Wigan I thought they were really good today.

“We didn’t quite nail what we talked about and against a side like Wigan, if you don’t get the detail right, this is what you end up with.

“You’ve got to find energy and the way to find energy is to stick with your system. I think we panicked early doors, we let in a couple of tries that were alien in terms that we would generally make teams work harder.

“This Wigan side is a good side but so are we. We know we are, we just need to be better on the day.”

Wigan Warriors boss Denis Betts told BBC Sport:

“I know the score line looks really strong but it’s a really tough game. Both sides were really competitive, you saw some really talented athletes out there today and I just thought our form is really good.

“I thought Mary Coleman for 70 minutes was the player on the field by a long way. She’s got so much energy. She’s tough to tackle but she’s also quick.

“They were nervous coming into this game. Emotions were running wild but we managed to calm it, we’ve experienced it now, we’ve won a massive game. They can use the skill of the game to push that on again.

St Helens: Salihi; Hook, McColm, Hardcastle, McGifford; Harris, Gaskin; Stott, Casey, Crowl, Hoye, Rudge, Cunningham.

Interchanges: Whitfield, Mottershead, Sutherland, Woosey.

Wigan: Banks; Davies, Wilson, Jones, Derbyshire; Foubister, Rowe; Coleman, Wilton, Speakman, Hunter, Power, Williams.

Macron to visit Greenland to boost ‘European unity’ amid Trump threats

Following American expressions of interest in acquiring the mineral-rich Arctic island, French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Greenland this month, the presidency has announced.

On June 15, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and the French leader will meet in Greenland’s newly elected prime minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen’s semi-autonomous territory.

The leaders’ discussions will concentrate on climate change, the energy transition, and crucial minerals, according to a statement from the French presidency on Saturday.

In response to a “difficult foreign policy situation,” Frederiksen praised Macron’s upcoming visit and said in a statement that it is “another concrete testimony of European unity.”

Donald Trump’s threat to annexe Greenland prompts the visit.

According to the French presidency’ statement, this trip has the objectives of “strengthening cooperation” with the Arctic territory in these areas and “contribute to the strengthening of European sovereignty.”

Trump has repeatedly stated his desire to “control” the vast, mineral-rich, and strategically located Arctic territory “someway” since his return to the White House in January.

For international security and safety, we need Greenland. It is required. In a March interview, Trump said, “We have to have it.”

Russia and China may have strategic plans for Greenland, according to the US.

On March 28, Trump’s vice president, JD Vance, made a visit to the US military base in Pituffik, northwest Greenland, which was perceived as a provocation.

Vance alleged that Denmark had not “done a good job for the people of Greenland,” not made enough money in the regional economy, and “not ensuring its security.”

As he urged a push for Greenland’s independence from Denmark, the vice president emphasized that the US has “no option” but to take a significant position to ensure the island’s security.

According to Vance, “I believe they will eventually partner with the United States.” They could be much safer, we said. More protection is something that could be done. And they would perform significantly better economically, too, in my opinion.

Greenland is not “for sale,” according to Denmark, for its part.

The prime minister said in an address to American leaders from the vast island, “You cannot annex another country.”

Denmark announced 14.6 billion Danish kroner ($2.1 billion) in financial commitments for Arctic security, which include three new naval vessels, long-range drones, and satellites, in response to American threats.

The main political parties in Greenland oppose joining the US, which are in favor of the territory’s long-term independence.

Any chance of becoming an American was thwarted by a poll conducted at the end of January that found the population of 57, 000 mostly Inuit people, including more than 19, 000 in Nuuk, the capital.

Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the territory’s new prime minister, stated at a press conference in March that it needed to be united at this point.
