ICE operating in LA for 2nd day amid protests against immigration raids

Following protests at a federal detention center that were met with police tear gas and stun grenades, authorities in the United States have extended their immigration crackdown for a second day.

On Saturday, Border Patrol personnel waited patiently in front of a Paramount industrial park while wearing riot gear and gas masks.

“ICE] Immigration and Customs Enforcement” is a paraphrase. A woman made the announcement via a megaphone that “we see you for who you are.” You are not welcome here, they say.

No person is prohibited, according to a hand-held sign.

As US Border Patrol patrolled the area, traffic was restricted on the boulevard.

In what opponents called an “oppressive and vile paramilitary operation,” ICE conducted searches at least 44 people’s names on Friday, including a clothing warehouse.

Detainees were being processed inside the Edward R. Royal Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles as a result of the raids, which quickly sparked protests.

The immigration authorities were referred to as “masked goons” by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in denunciation of the raids.

We urge our elected officials to carry out their pledge to all Angelenos, both immigrants and non-immigrants, by waging all necessary combat to bring this oppressive and hateful paramilitary operation to a halt and preserve our city’s security, the statement read.

Stephen Miller, a senior White House aide and Trump’s front-runner against immigration, claimed that the ICE raids were an “insurrection against the laws and sovereignty of the United States.”

After Miller claimed his officers would not assist ICE in any way, Miller claimed that LA police chief Jim McDonnell was siding with “invaders over citizens.”

As President Donald Trump pledges to deport a record number of illegal immigrants, according to the White House’s plan for ICE to detain at least 3, 000 people every day.

The raids were condemned by LA Mayor Karen Bass on Friday, saying: “These strategies sown terror in our communities and undermine fundamental principles of safety in our city. We won’t support this, ” “

Bass’ statement was attacked by ICE acting director Todd Lyons, who claimed the mayor had favored “chaos and lawlessness over law enforcement.”

Hose hits superb 95 as Rapids beat Outlaws

Vitality Blast, Trent Bridge

Worcestershire Rapids 206-5 (20 overs): Hose 95, Ali 51; Pennington 2-48

Notts Outlaws 181-7 (20 overs): Patterson-White 39*, Moores 39; Taylor 2-36, Duffy 2-42

Worcestershire Rapids won by 25 runs

Adam Hose hit a devastating 95 from 51 balls to help Worcestershire Rapids secure a 25-run victory over Notts Outlaws in the T20 Blast at Trent Bridge.

The hosts won the toss and put Worcestershire in to bat – a decision that looked to be paying dividends when they picked up two quick early wickets to put the Rapids under pressure at 1-2.

Worcestershire skipper Brett D’Oliveira was run out for a golden duck in bizarre fashion just three balls into the innings when he lost his balance as he tried to take a quick single and bowler Daniel Sams reacted quickly to dismiss him with a direct hit.

Ed Pollock then hammered former Worcestershire bowler Dillon Pennington’s first ball straight down Matthew Montgomery’s throat at deep square leg to leave the Rapids in a spot of bother.

But Kashif Ali instantly went on the attack for Worcestershire, hitting three sixes in the space of three overs to end the powerplay at 57-2.

Ali moved onto 51 but soon after he was caught in the deep by Lyndon James after coming down the track to Calvin Harrison in the 10th over and sending one straight to long on.

From that moment onwards, Hose stepped on the gas and produced a blistering batting display, smashing six sixes – two of which sailed over the stand – and seven fours.

The first maximum from Hose was the biggest of the lot, sending an enormous slog sweep into the street outside the ground off Liam Patterson-White.

Hose repeated the trick again shortly after, this time off Harrison, and then went to his 21st T20 career half-century – and second of the season – in some style as he pulled Conor McKerr for six.

Ethan Brookes ably supported Hose, making a valuable 32 from 19 balls before he tried to go big through the leg side against Patterson-White but was caught by Sams in the deep to bring to an end a 79-run partnership with Hose to leave the Rapids on 153-4.

However it did not slow Worcestershire’s progress as Ben Dwarshuis joined Hose in the middle and they took 16 runs from Pennington in the 17th over and then 19 from Sams in the penultimate over of the innings.

There was still time for one more six in the final over off Pennington – and 11th of the evening for the Rapids – as Dwarshuis smashed one on the up over mid-wicket on his way to 18 not out off nine balls.

With Hose chasing what would have been the first T20 Blast century of the season, he tried to scoop Pennington down to fine leg but was trapped in front, falling just five runs short of a ton as Worcestershire finished on 206-5.

Notts made a relatively bright start in reply despite losing Lyndon James for just one when he sent a length delivery from Tom Taylor tamely into the hands of Hose at mid-on.

Jack Haynes, who is the Outlaws’ leading T20 run-scorer so far this season, pushed his side onto 38 inside the first five overs.

But after he toed one in the air straight to Taylor at mid-off from Jacob Duffy for 19, the hosts struggled to build any significant momentum.

Moises Henriques was stumped by Gareth Roderick off Fateh Singh and skipper Joe Clarke, who hit two sixes on the way to 31, was caught by D’Oliveira off Taylor to leave the Outlaws 72-4 at the halfway point of the chase.

Sams hit two sixes and made a quick 20 from 12 balls, while Tom Moores joint top-scored with 39, but both fell in relatively quick succession as Notts saw any realistic hopes of victory drift away at 129-6 with five overs remaining.

Montgomery (15) and Patterson-White (39*) slapped a few impressive boundaries towards the end of the innings to restore some pride, with the latter launching a particularly huge six through mid-on from Taylor.

Strictly Come Dancing star Shirley Ballas has taken part in a tattoo charity fundraiser to help raise money and awareness for the anti-suicide charity CALM

Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has got a tattoo in honour of her late brother – and to raise funds for a mental health charity. The 64-year-old TV star was left devastated in 2003 when her brother, David, took his own life at the age of 44.

Shirley has discussed her love for her brother and her sadness over her loss in the past – as well as highlighting the fact that he struggled with depression in order to help others find the help they need. On Saturday, the dance expert got a tattoo of her late brother’s first and second initials as well as his last name, Rich.

Taking to Instagram, Shirley posed alongside tattooist Tal Booker, 31, the brother of Love Island star Eyal Booker, 29, and showed off her new inking. She wrote alongside the post: “A tattoo for my brother… thank you @talbooker honoured to be tattoo number 2 of 24 in your @calmzone #TattooAThon.”

Shirley previously discussed her loss on the Great Company podcast, revealing her family battled to have her brother get help before his tragic suicide. She said: “I was wrapped up in my life, because at that time, I had two other children I was taking care of, plus my own son, and they were all dancers, and I was just wrapped up in my world of ballroom dancing.

“I was in London. He was up north, and my mother went to stay with him for six weeks. But my mother’s old school, and they don’t share. So, what I should have done then, if I look back now, is gotten the car straight away and gone to see the situation for myself. He was just in a bad place.

“He explained it like being in a dark, black hole that he couldn’t climb out of. He’d lost a lot of weight, and the doctors couldn’t help him.

“We tried to get him sectioned, and when, apparently, I wasn’t there, but my mum was. When they took him in the car and they pulled up to the hospital, he recognized somebody that was stood on the steps, and he was too he was the macho man on the housing estate, and he was too embarrassed, he made them turn the car around.

“So had she not been there that day, then maybe things could have been different. And it just nobody talked about things like that. No one talked about things like that at all, and they just popped in with pills, you know, like these antidepressants.”

And expressing her sadness over David’s death, she said: “‘I still remember the morning it happened. I call my mum to say that Mark, my son, would be performing at St Paul’s church in London, and maybe they both like to come down for the day.

“And my brother said, no, no, no, no, I’m feeling much better now. But you go mum, and against her better judgment, she didn’t want to go. And I pushed her to go a little bit because she’d been there, you know, and was having this tough time. David didn’t want to go, and it was that they chose to do that.

“So, for that, I will live with for the rest of my life. She blames herself, but I blame myself because I was the one pushing her to go. She felt she shouldn’t have left.”

Meanwhile, Tal has set out to raise funds for the anti-suicide charity CALM where he has planned to tattoo 24 designs within 24 hours. He explained via Instagram previously: “The most likely thing to kill a young person is themselves, and around 18 people day in the UK die by suicide. One of the ways we can change that, is by talking about it.

“That’s why I’ve teamed up with @calmzone to do a 24 hour tattoo-a-thon on the 7th and 8th June. To raise vital funds and start important conversations.

Sir Tom Jones has opened up about his late wife’s final words before she passed away from cancer. The legendary singer was by Melinda “Linda” Trenchard’s side during her final days following a 59-year marriage that lasted until her passing in 2016.

Celebrating his 85th birthday, Sir Tom recounted the profound advice Linda gave him. Speaking on BBC’s Sounds of the 60s with Tony Blackburn, he shared: “When my wife knew that she had terminal cancer, I was with her for the last 10 days in hospital in the room with her.

He went on to explain how his dearly beloved Linda had urged him to persevere and how those words had aided him as he pondered his grief and served as guidance for young artists today.

She said, “Don’t fall for me; you have to keep going, you have to get on stage.” You still have songs to sing, and when you do, you still think of me.

Tom reflected on the levity Linda brought to his life, underlining the importance of laughter and remembrance. He went on to express how Linda’s memory gave him the fortitude to carry on with his career despite considering retirement in the wake of her passing, reports Wales Online.

She adored jokes, and I once did the same. She now gives me strength because I had feared that after she passed away, I would crumble.

Sir Tom acknowledged how close his singing career was to being overdone by overwhelming emotion and acknowledged the difficulty of managing emotions while performing. You can’t sing when you sing because your voice won’t come out, so I didn’t think I could sing anymore.

Sir Tom Jones has given some wise words of wisdom to aspiring singers, such as, “You take the emotion and then you work it into the song, get it through, but don’t get too involved with it because then you’ll cry and you won’t be able to sing.”

Celebrating a milestone, the legendary singer announced on his Instagram: “I’m celebrating my 85th birthday this Saturday! and am thrilled to be sharing a very special concert performance – ‘Live on Soundstage 2017’ for the first time on my YouTube channel.”

According to GB News, Sir Tom will also appear on a BBC Arts program called In My Own Words in addition to Tony Blackburn. The renowned Sex Bomb singer remarked, “Taking the time to reflect on some of the extraordinary things that have occurred in my life for In My Own Words has been really enjoyable and thought-provoking.

Watching snippets of those past, times, styles, and struggles made me realize how fortunate I am,” I said in a statement. “Some of the archive I’d never seen before.

“The first house I ever owned made me think back so many times that I was able to spend the day there. I hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as I did creating it! “.

Ngannou responds to Jones’ call for ‘super-fight’

Two years after quitting the MMA division for the Professional Fighters League (PFL), Francis Ngannou has declared that he wants to fight UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Ngannou, 38, has mostly boxed since leaving the UFC, but has only competed once in the PFL since signing with them in 2023.

Ngannou’s coach suggested a return to the UFC, so Jones called for a “super-fight,” to which the Cameroonian has since responded.

Ngannou said on social media, “You take care of the UFC, I take care of the PFL, and we’ll finally discover who the king of the heavyweight is.”

What data are gathered from this quiz?

Dana White claimed that he would never welcome Ngannou back after the UFC’s exit was an ugly one.

“It’s over, that’s over,” the message read. In 2023, White declared, “He’ll never be in the UFC again.”

When Ngannou’s coach Eric Nicksick suggested that the promotion would be the best match for his fighter, Ngannou’s coach sparked ferocious speculation.

Nicksick’s comments were quickly responded to by Jones, who has been a social media back and forth with Aspinall for weeks.

According to Jones, “I’m hearing Francis Ngannou is still interested, and we’re talking.”

“That’s a real super-fight,” he declared. Not just hype, but a clash of champions. I’ve defended my UFC belt for more than ten years while he held it. Two kings traveling through different roads.

Two real legacies collide, not just one legend facing a mouth that’s hot right now.

The UFC has a history of avoiding co-promotional competitions with rival MMA clubs.

However, PFL chief Donn Davis also responded to Ngannou’s request by suggesting a “winner-takes-all” agreement that would see the triumphant heavyweight and his promotional company monopolize all” event profits.

Jones is the reigning UFC two-weight champion. When Ngannou left the UFC, he was the current heavyweight champion.
