Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 1,194

What is the situation as of Monday, June 2:

Fighting

  • In an attack that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called Kyiv’s “longest-range operation,” Ukraine claimed to have destroyed $7 billion of Russian bombers at air bases as far away as Siberia.
  • According to Al Jazeera’s Dorsa Jabbari, who is based in Moscow, the “simultaneous large-scale attack” was “launched from within Russia” and targeted “Russian planes that have been attacking Ukraine.”
  • According to a SBU intelligence service official in Ukraine, the operation involved loading explosive-laden drones onto trucks that were driven around the air bases and hiding them inside the roofs of wooden sheds. According to them, at least 41 Russian warplanes were killed.
  • According to Russia’s Tass news agency, there were no casualties in the military or the general population and that “some of the participants” had been detained.
  • The air force of Ukraine reported that Russia had launched 472 drones at the country overnight, the most of the conflict’s nightly total. Additionally, Moscow launched seven missiles.
  • According to Ukraine’s Land Forces, a missile attack on a Ukrainian military training ground on Sunday morning resulted in the deaths of 12 soldiers and the injuries of more than 60 others.
  • Mykhailo Drapaty, the commander of the Ukrainian ground forces, said he felt “personal responsibility” for the soldiers’ deaths after the assault.
  • At least seven people were killed and 69 were hurt in Russia when a bridge in the Bryansk, Ukraine’s border, collapsed onto a passing passenger train. The bridge collapsed as a result of an “illegal interference in the operation of transport,” according to Moscow Railway in a post posted on Telegram.
  • A freight train reportedly derailped in Russia’s Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, in a second bridge collapse, according to the area’s acting governor.
  • According to the acting governor, debris from destroyed drones fell on private homes in Kursk, which led to a drone attack by Ukraine on Kursk that also sparked fires.

diplomacy and politics

A second round of peace talks is scheduled to begin today in Istanbul, Turkiye, and Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine was sending a delegation led by Rustem Umerov, the country’s defense minister.

  • Moscow has received Ukraine’s “version of the memorandum on a peaceful settlement,” according to Vladimir Medinsky, a former cultural minister who will lead Russia’s delegation in Istanbul.
  • Zelenskyy did point out that Russia has not yet released its own memo. The Ukrainian president stated in a post on X that “we don’t have it, the Turkish side doesn’t have it, and the American side doesn’t have the Russian document either.”
  • Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Marco Rubio also discussed “several initiatives aimed at a political solution to the Ukraine crisis,” according to TASS, along with their American counterpart. &nbsp,
  • In a presidential election in which aid to Kyiv, Ukraine’s potential membership in NATO, and Ukrainian refugees were top priorities, exit polls indicate that the two candidates are very close and the race is still too close to call.

Multiple people wounded in attack in US city of Boulder, Colorado

Developing a Story

After an attack in Boulder, Colorado that the FBI director described as a “targeted terror attack,” a male suspect has been taken into custody, according to police.

Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said on Sunday that the man was apprehended following calls to the police dispatch of a person who was “setting people on fire,” while underlining that the information was “very preliminary.”

Redfearn claimed that he had been taken to the hospital and that he was not yet able to identify the suspect. According to him, the victims suffered a variety of injuries, ranging from “very serious to more minor” injuries.

The Boulder attack took place close to a memorial walk for the Israeli prisoners still living in Gaza.

Agents were present, according to FBI Director Kash Patel, who described the incident as a “targeted terror attack” in a statement.

However, Redfearn claimed that a motive was too early to speculate.

He claimed that at this time, “we are not calling it a terror attack.”

I ask that you join me in considering the victims, the victims’ families, and everyone who was involved in this tragedy because it happened on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Boulder’s Pearl Street.

Jade Thirlwall took aim at Harry Potter author JK Rowling in an explosive outburst. The former Little Mix singer who has now ventured out as a solo artist under the name JADE made her presence known as she took to the stage at Mighty Hoopla festival on Saturday.

The 32-year-old has always been a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, and she frequently uses her platform to raise funds for causes in the area. However, Jade targeted those who she believes have voiced their opposition to the community as she took to the Mighty Hoopla stage on Saturday.

Jade urged the 30, 000 crowd to join in her chant while performing her song F*** You For Now (FUFN). Jade addressed the fans by saying, “I want you to put your middle fingers in the air and I want you to yell, “F*** you,” back at me.

She then included people she claimed were homophobic, transphobic, and misogynistic. She yelled, “J. K. Rowling,” as she turned to the audience. as the fans screamed: “F*** you”. Jade’s comments on social media received mixed reviews.

One user responded, “Nah Jade, you’re not right about this.” What did J. K. Rowling do, in a second instance? Another question was posed by J. K. Rowling: “What has he done wrong with Jade? ” What “have I missed”?

However, some leapt to defend Jade, with the phrase “Jade the icon you are” in one message. We love Jade, a second Jade supporter continued: “We love Jade!! a true “North East girl”

Another person praised “She is my biggest ally” and “I love her so much.” Joanne Rowling, J. K.’s real name, has vehemently denied being transphobic.

The 59-year-old author made the first comments about trans people six years ago and has since remained firm in her opinion that they are a threat to women in same-sex spaces like bathrooms.

Earlier this month, the author posted to her 14.3 million followers on X, formerly known as Twitter, that “nobody sane believes, or has ever believed that humans can change sex, or that binary sex isn’t a material fact.” Jade’s comments come after she joined 400 UK artists and music industry workers signing an open letter pledging solidarity with the trans community.

The trans community and allies have taken to social media to protest the inclusion of trans people in single sex spaces following the UK Supreme Court’s ruling.

The Supreme Court’s decision, which is titled “Open Letter of solidarity to the trans community from the UK music industry,” highlights the impact made on the trans, non-binary, and intersex communities.

Last week, Jade performed her first solo festival slot – and headlined the Future Sounds Stage at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Liverpool’s Sefton Park.

Jade was blown away by the number of people entering the tent, according to a source at the event. After the Spice Girls and Girls Aloud, she joined the biggest female band from the UK, but she soon realized it was an “insane crowd” when she performed for her first solo show.

She did not swear, but she thanked the audience and herself. She explained to the audience that Angel of My Dreams had come after her difficulties.

Jubilant PSG Parade Champions League Trophy In Paris

The Champs-Elysees were filled with tens of thousands of football fans on Sunday to watch Paris Saint-Germain’s players and staff parade the Champions League trophy through Paris, France, before a major celebration at their home stadium.

After a 5-0 defeat at Inter Milan in the final on Saturday, the team traveled by bus directly from Munich to Roissy Airport. Along the way, numerous enthusiastic supporters welcomed them.

Some clubs had flags or flares, while others all wished their teams had won the first-ever trophy in European club football.

As they drove, the players addressed the crowd and brandished the trophy, all of whom had ’25’ on them.

Their emblematic captain Marquinhos yelled, “Let’s sing all together.”

After the game, French President Emmanuel Macron addressed the team at a reception at the Elysee palace, where they were led by coach Luis Enrique and his team, including Desire Doue, the 19-year-old who scored twice in the impressive performance from Saturday.

He declared, “You are the champions and have elevated Paris to the top of the world.”

“There were 11 of you on the field, but there was clearly a twelfth man,” Macron said, gleefully appreciative of his own loyalty to PSG’s rival club, the Olympique de Marseille.

After the final whistle on Saturday night, the president was quick to denounce the violence that had harmed the capital’s and other French celebrations.

After more than 200 cars were torched and police clashed with youths, police in France made nearly 600 arrests, according to the interior ministry.

A 17-year-old boy was stabbed in the chest in Dax, southwest of the city.

A 23-year-old scooter rider in central Paris also died after being struck by a car.

After being hurt by a firework, a police officer was placed in an induced coma.

The violent clashes are unacceptable, according to Macron, who said nothing could justify what has occurred in recent hours.

“We will fight back, we will punish, and we will be relentless.”

Macron also expressed his gratitude to the club’s players for quickly outright condemning the violence.

The club said on Sunday, “These isolated acts are contrary to the club’s values and do not in any way represent the majority of our supporters, whoseexemplary behavior throughout the season deserves praise.”

A Premier League victory parade by Liverpool Football Club in the English city ended in horrifying scenes after a car ploughed into the crowd, leaving 79 people injured, so police were on high alert to stop any repetition of Saturday’s scene.

PSG will celebrate at their Parc des Princes home ground as the day’s festivities come to an end.

PSG became only the second French team after Marseille in 1993 to win the European championship while receiving an estimated 11.8 million viewers on French television.

The Champions League or the European Cup that followed had the greatest margin of victory in a final.

Since purchasing an ailing club in 2011, Qatar Sports Investments has invested hundreds of millions of euros in PSG, but over the past few seasons they have turned their back on their previous policy of signing players like Neymar and Lionel Messi and instead have concentrated on young French talent.

Doue established himself as a rising star in international football. The fifth goal was scored by Senny Mayulu, a second-year-old who was substituted toward the end.

Everyone in the dressing room sprang into action in their own way, Mayulu said after the game, “people were filled with joy and pride,” Mayulu said.

After winning the final five years, PSG claimed that they planned to win more than they had previously made.

“We want to win again,” said PSG President Nasser al-Khelaifi. “We are building something for the future after 14 years of hard work.”
