Ronaldo Breaks Germany Jinx As Portugal Reach Nations League Final

In the Champions League final, Cristiano Ronaldo broke his bad reputation against the Germans by winning 2-1 over Germany on Wednesday in Munich.

Ronaldo’s 138th international goal in the 68th minute sealed his longest winning streak against any nation since winning. It was his longest ever goal in opposition to any nation without a victory.

Three minutes after halftime, Florian Wirtz, who had a stuttering opening half, started and cleverly advanced through the middle before heading in the opener.

With only 45 minutes left, Portugal’s Francisco Conceicao ran 35 meters to score a brilliant solo goal that levelled things up.

Ronaldo, who had missed two excellent chances, was given the final chance to turn in a Nuno Mendes pass from close range.

Germany, which had only lost one of their previous 17 games, suffers from the loss.

Portugal’s four players were already in the lead when the celebrations and Saturday’s Champions League final came to an end, but Germany was the first to struggle to find rhythm.

Due to a violent storm that caused hailstones to strewn across the turf, the game arrived 10 minutes late.

While Portugal’s pressing Jonathan Tah almost paid off, the defender was insecure in possession, despite Aleksandar Pavlovic’s misplaced passes and several mislaid passes.

Ronaldo almost scored the opening goal six minutes into his first game for Germany since September 2024, but his old La Liga sparring partner Marc-Andre ter Stegen claimed it with his shot. He was greeted by Portuguese cheers and German boos every time he approached the ball.

With 18 minutes left, debutant Nick Woltemade had Germany’s best chance in the opening half, but Diogo Costa’s low shot, which was a 1.9-meter-tall striker, was well saved.

When Portugal broke right after halftime, Ronaldo was just inches away from opening the scoring with a clever Nuno Mendes cross that beckoned into the net.

The miss was punished by Germany in less than a minute. Before being laid off for Joshua Kimmich, Wirtz tiptoed down the left to catch three defenders.

The German captain chipped it past the Portugal defense before turning to Wirtz, who skillfully drilled a low header into the bottom right corner.

On the 60-minute mark, Roberto Martinez made three changes, but the difference was in the substitutions’ timing.

Conceicao dropped Robin Gosens with a shimmy close to the half-way line five minutes later before launching a superb curling shot past Ter Stegen in the last seconds.

Ronaldo then scored Portugal’s first goal in his 219th international, cue Ronaldo for his nerveless tap in of a Nuno Mendes pass to make up for his previous errors.

With eight minutes left, Munich-born Karim Adeyemi hit the crossbar, but Germany could not find an equalizer and will need to be content with a third-placed match on Sunday in Stuttgart.

Billy made the cancellation of his shows last month in a social media post. Due to a recent diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), Billy Joel has announced that he will be canceling all scheduled concerts.

Recent concert performances have made this condition worse, causing balance, vision, and hearing issues.

Billy is currently receiving specific physical therapy and has been advised to avoid performing during this recovery period according to his doctor’s instructions. Billie is fully committed to putting his health first, and she is appreciative of the excellent care he is receiving.

He appreciates the fans’ support at this point and looks forward to the day when he can take the stage once more. “I’m sincerely sorry for letting our audience down, and thank you for understanding,” he said.

NPH is a rare and not well-understood condition that typically affects people over the age of 60, according to the NHS website.

Its diagnosis can be challenging because of its symptoms, which are frequently linked to more common conditions like Alzheimer’s disease, mobility issues and dementia.

Fans who purchased tickets to any of the star’s canceled shows will still be credited with their original purchases.

Africa’s Progress Will Depend On Youth Investment – Bill Gates

According to Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft and the chairman of the Gates Foundation, Africa’s future will be determined by the investments it makes in its young population.

Gates made the point that Africa’s young population has a unique advantage, but only if the necessary investments are made in health and education, as he did as a panelist at the Gate Foundation’s Goalkeepers event on Wednesday.

“Africa is a very young continent, which is amazing, and I constantly show people this slide.” Over half of African children will be born in the next half of the century. By far, the city (Lagos) in which we are currently located will be the largest city in the world. That will be intriguing and will maintain interest,” he said.

“Africa will remain the most fascinating continent in the coming century because of this incredible offset of its youth,” says the author. In what ways will the investments we make in their health and education over the next 20 years affect how much that youth can actually contribute to progress. There is an incredible future here if we give that priority.

Gates responded affirmatively, citing local success stories, when asked whether he was still confident that Africa and Africans could still accomplish major health goals.

“Well, certainly Gombe State is an example of how the government of Africa is really focusing on the performance of the workforce and being willing to emphasize not just health but also primary health care, even in very tight budget conditions (which is true throughout Africa). And we quickly observe that when that is accomplished, nutrition rates rise, maternal deaths fall, and childhood deaths fall,” he said.

AI is “transforming healthcare.”

Gates also made a note of how innovation and technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), have altered the way healthcare is delivered across the continent.

“AI is progressing,” according to entrepreneurs in Africa, who are creating AI specifically to meet African needs. AI is improving at the global level.

If you combine the development of Africa’s riches, the rise of more philanthropists, the restoration of generosity in wealthy nations, and the sharing of best practices and innovations. Even for things like sickle cell disease, which we need to treat, we have some incredible tools available. It is a dramatic burden.

The co-founder of Microsoft praised Nigeria for its strong local partnerships and expressed hope that the world’s current five million child mortality rate could be reduced from 5 million cases annually.

We’ve had incredible partners in Nigeria who are aware of delivery and how to support government initiatives. In the end, the government bears the costs. We’re here to make those systems faster.

“The African nations will experience real economic momentum over the next 20 years.” It will be a huge help to them in understanding that, simplifying delivery, and lowering costs. For instance, the rates of childhood death, for example, have been significantly higher than I had anticipated. There is a lot to be proud of, but there is even more work to be done, according to Gates.

Foundation for Bill & Melinda Gates

Gates also made a note of the foundation’s recent 25-year work in Africa.

He disclosed that the Gates Foundation has spent $100 billion on global health since 2000, with the majority of it going to Africa.

“When we first started the Foundation in 2000, we firmly believed that all people have equal value. He said that one of our main concerns was reducing infant mortality globally, particularly in Africa.

“So I looked and said, “Are people seriously taking this?” Do they offer cheaper alternatives to traditional treatments, such as buying new malaria tools, or tailoring them to local needs? And no, it was not. That served as the Gates Foundation’s guiding principle.

The Goalkeepers event, hosted by the Foundation for Bill & Melinda Gates for the first time in Lagos, brought together global leaders, policymakers, and changemakers to assess progress toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Aliko Dangote, the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Gombe State, and other dignitaries were among the other notable attendees.

Wales vs. Liechtenstein: World Cup qualifier

Cardiff City Stadium Date: Friday, June 6th Kickoff: 19:45 BST

When Wales players were last together in March, David Brooks accepted the praises when he scored the 96th-minute equalizer in North Macedonia, keeping Craig Bellamy’s unbeaten start as head coach.

For entirely different reasons, Brooks received more congratulations when the Wales squad regrouped for this week’s World Cup qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Belgium.

The couple’s baby is due on November 1 and their baby is expected to be born in a couple’s home earlier this week.

Given that questions were raised about whether this time would ever come, Brooks, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, finds the news particularly encouraging.

“I wanted to start a family for all of my life.” The 27-year-old claims that her wife and I both wanted children at some point.

You have those conversations, of course, and there are never any guarantees that I’ll be able to have children once I’ve been diagnosed. There was a chance it wouldn’t have been possible.

“But I think it came naturally,” I think. I was obviously very happy after receiving treatment because everything returned to normal. Although there were some tears, we are anticipating it a lot.

In October 2021, Brooks was diagnosed with Stage Two Hodgkin lymphoma at the age of 24.

The attacking midfielder went through “dark times,” but he was declared cancer-free in May 2022 after receiving several months of chemotherapy.

A prominent figure

Brooks acknowledges that he is now one of Wales’ “more senior lads” two years later.

Another great of the country has passed away as a result of Joe Allen’s retirement, and Aaron Ramsey, the camp’s captain, has been injured once more.

Brooks, who has 33 caps, says he enjoys the responsibility of playing for a squad that is rebuilding after losing Gareth Bale, Chris Gunter, and Allen since the 2022 World Cup.

Bale is undoubtedly the greatest British player of all time, while Joe Allen is undoubtedly one of the greatest Welsh players ever, he continues.

They are undoubtedly a big miss, but there are many young talents emerging and many young people, including myself, have been waiting for the chance to showcase their talents.

It appeared to be a big goal, they said.

David Brooks celebrates his late equaliser in North Macedonia FAW

Wales will face Cardiff City on Friday when they host the minnows of Liechtenstein for the ninth time since Bellamy took over.

Next Monday in Brussels, Wales will take on Belgium, one of Group J’s top seeds, with a tougher challenge ahead.

When North Macedonia advanced in added time in Skopje, Brooks almost scored his fifth international goal with the final kick of the game, which appeared to be the end of the unbeaten run.

He claims, “I’m not too fussed, but as long as it trickles over the line, it’s not one of my best efforts.”

It made the table look much better for us, according to the manager of North Macedonia, and it was a big goal.

As of right now, Wales leads North Macedonia in terms of goals scored, but Belgium has yet to play a game in the group.

A draw would have been a fantastic outcome in the past, and Wales may have looked at a heavyweight nation like Belgium with some trepidation in the future.

Wales will travel with anticipation rather than just hope under Bellamy, who rejects the idea that his side is an underdog.

Bellamy’s approach is described as “intense,” according to Brooks, but Wales’ players are eager to deliver for their boss.

He is obviously a very, very passionate person, especially in relation to Wales, Brooks goes on to say.

We want to work with him and integrate his system. We have a strong base, going unbeaten so far, and are now looking to strengthen it to become more dangerous and reduce the chances of concede goals.

Syria to give IAEA access to suspected former nuclear sites: Report

As Damascus continues to acquiesce in the international community, Syria’s new government has agreed to grant inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) access to suspected former nuclear sites right away, according to the agency’s head.

Director-general of the UN nuclear watchdog, Rafael Grossi, met with President Ahmed al-Sharaa and other officials in Damascus on Wednesday.

Since President Bashar al-Assad’s ouster in December, the IAEA has been making strides to re-access sites related to Syria’s nuclear program.

Grossi stated that the agency’s goal is “to bring total clarity over certain activities that took place in the past that were, in the opinion of the agency, likely related to nuclear weapons.” He said he was confident in the completion of the inspection process in a few months and that the new government was “committed to opening up to the world and to international cooperation.”

After the United States and the European Union last month lifted sanctions against Syria, Grossi’s visit also represents yet another step in the direction of international acceptance. Despite the two nations holding indirect talks in early May, Israel has launched more than 200 air, drone, or artillery attacks across Syria over the past six months.

Last year, an IAEA team went to some interesting locations. According to reports, Syria’s under-Assad regime had a large, secret nuclear program, including a North Korean nuclear plant in Deir ez-Zor province, which was unveiled.

The reactor’s “not configured to produce electricity” was described by the IAEA, raising the possibility that Damascus sought nuclear weapons there by producing weapons-grade plutonium.

The reactor site was only made public after Israel, the region’s only nuclear power, launched airstrikes in 2007, destroying the facility. Later, Syria leveled the site and never fully addressed the IAEA’s inquiries.

Grossi described plans to return to the reactor in Deir az Zor and three other related locations. A facility in Homs and a miniature neutron source reactor in Damascus are additional IAEA safeguards that cover other locations.

The watchdog is concerned that “enriched uranium can be lying somewhere and could be reused, could be smuggled, and could be trafficked,” Grossi said, despite the lack of any indications that there had been radiation releases from the sites.

He claimed that al-Sharaa had shown a “very positive disposition” to talk to us and allow us to carry out our needs.

Grossi shared that the IAEA is also prepared to transfer nuclear medicine equipment and assist in the reconstruction of the country’s nearly 14-year civil war-era radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, and oncology infrastructure.

Grossi continued, “And the president has told me that he is also interested in exploring nuclear energy in the future.”
