Williams defeats Trump in World Championship semi-final

Mark Williams, the three-time champion, defeated world number one Judd Trump 17-14 to become the oldest player to ever reach a World Championship final.

The Welshman, who turned 50 in March, surpasses Ray Reardon, a 49-year-old who won the title six times and made the 1982 final.

Williams had a 7-3 lead at the start of the match, but his unwavering class showed up as he reined in the 2019 champion to 8-8 on Friday, and he stayed on top of that result for two sessions on Saturday, avenging his 17-16 defeat to Trump in their final-four Crucible thriller in 2022.

I’m not going to lie, I was starting to twitch toward the end. In the final frame, Williams claimed, “I almost missed the black; I did feel a little tension on the back arm.”

“I’m never nervous at any time, but I did during that break.” I’m in a new final, and I’m not sure how I’m doing, to be honest.

Before Trump responded with his 106th birthday campaign, which has resulted in six final appearances, the Welshman returned with the 13-11 lead after taking the first two frames with half-century.

Williams was among the balls when Trump hit a safety shot too thin, so he capitalized with a superb 100 break of his own to take the 16-12 lead at the mid-session interval.

When Williams missed a red in the middle of the left, the 35-year-old Englishman made a 116 clearance to get back to 16-14 to add to his world title starting in 2019.

When he missed a challenging black to the right corner, Williams’ hopes of revival were thwarted, and he scored the famous century of the evening.

“Mark was the more consistent player throughout, and he deserved the victory in the end. No negatives are present; instead, Trump remarked, “I tried my hardest and just ran out of steam.”

You just need to take your hat off to Mark because he was too good over the three days, and I’ll try to improve for the following year, so I’m sure you can take my hat off to him.

In the first left-handed player world championship game, Williams will take on Zhao Xintong from China.

I want my money back, I promise.

Since he insisted that opponents would be “praying” against him in the build-up to the tournament because of his well-known eyesight issues, it has been a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for Williams.

Ding Junhui defeated him 10-3 in the March World Grand Prix and World Open, and he lost to Stuart Bingham and Akani Songsermsawad.

The bookmakers all favored Trump to win this encounter despite his defeat of John Higgins by 13-12 in the Crucible classic.

Trump had arguably been the tournament’s standout athlete, and he had largely displayed a steely resolve to increase his trophy haul in Sheffield.

He would have also become the first player to surpass the £2 million prize money barrier in a single campaign if he had won the blue-riband event, which is a notable example of the excellence he has consistently demonstrated.

Williams will now face one of Snooker’s new players, who is 22 years his junior, who was just two when the Welshman made his debut in the Crucible final in 1999. Despite this, Williams was superior in almost every aspect.

Williams continued, “I came here with not much form, I lost in the first round in the past few tournaments, but I wasn’t really concerned.”

I spent four or five hours working in the club with Lee Walker, Williams’ coach, and Lee [Walker] trying to get some form out of [lenses] and without contacts.

“I tried everything, including varifocals, and contacts, because I really struggled with my eyes during the past couple of tournaments.” Lee chose to decide whether or not I’m playing well and how I’m hitting them, and he said he thought it would be better for me to leave them alone.

No refunds are given for the afternoon session.

Fans were denied refunds earlier on Saturday for what was supposed to be the fourth session of the Ronnie O’Sullivan v. Zhao Xintong semi-final.

There was no competitive action at the Crucible in the afternoon as Zhao won the match 17-7 against the ” Rocket “.

A question-and-answer session with seven-time champion Stephen Hendry and 1997 champion Ken Doherty were substituted for an exhibition featuring Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor, who are both 40 years old after Taylor’s victory in their famous black-ball final.

According to the World Snooker Tour’s (WST) box office policies, it is “unable to provide ticket refunds or exchanges.”

The session’s ticket prices ranged from £121 to £660, including all fees.

Britain’s Got Talent fans spot problem with impressions act amid judges’ praise

Judges like Amanda Holden praised impressionist Will Burns’ most recent performance tonight in the live semi-final of the ITV show.

Fans of Britain’s Got Talent suggested earlier tonight that they had spotted a problem with impressionist Will Burns’ performance in his semi-final. He was among the acts who returned to the stage this weekend for a spot in the final.

The second semi-final of the ITV’s new series was broadcast live from the Eventim Apollo in London this evening. Judges Simon Cowell, 65, Amanda Holden, 54, Alesha Dixon, 46, and Bruno Tonioli, 69, were reintroduced to a number of acts who had made it through to this stage of the contest.

Will, 24 – who received a golden buzzer from Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly earlier in the series, which sent him through to the semi-finals – was back with more impressions of various celebrities. He impersonated the likes of Paddy McGuinness, Alan Carr and Billy Connolly tonight.

A picture of each celebrity Will was impersonating, or a picture of a show’s logo was projected on a screen behind him during the routine. However, some viewers thought it was unfavorable.

On X, a user wrote that “sharing a large picture that depicts who you are trying to impersonate (failly) is not a good sign.” Another fan remarked, “It’s not necessary to display who they are in the background,” adding that.

A third viewer expressed her appreciation for the courage required to be a comedian on the platform. One of the hardest moves is making people laugh. However, this was lacking in humor and was unfunny. Also, it’s bad to leave a picture of the person you’re impersonating, too, if you have to do so.

Someone else remarked, “You’re not really that good mate if you need f*ing great pictures of who you’re impersonating behind you.”

However, some people suggested that Will was not the only person who photographed the celebrities. One fan questioned, “Why do impressionists screen images of their jobs?” If you’re any good, we should know. Another questioned the question, “Why do impressionists always reveal their intentions before acting in a particular way?” We would be able to guess if they were that talented.

The act received praise despite being criticized on social media. Will the impressions were unquestionably brilliant, and people loved it. Another person described the Brynn from Gavin and Stacey as being excellent.

Following Will’s performance in tonight’s semi-final, the BGT judges gave him a lot of praise. Bruno declared to the impressionist, “You nailed it, despite your anxiety.” He continued, “You have talent. You have a great sense of humor. You are able to deliver your messages. You are very precise.

While Alesha stated in her feedback, “Here you are shining on stage. Fantastic content was provided. The performances were fantastic. The audience needs to remain entertained, laughing, and engaged throughout one of the most challenging tasks on this stage. It was put together brilliantly.

Will remarked, “It’s just one seamless monologue.” That’s never how it’s done before. I’ve never seen anything that allows voices to enter other voices. You’re a delight, in my opinion! She continued, “I would love, love, love to see you in the final.”

By the way, Simon said, “You just nailed it.” You absolutely took your three minutes, and I don’t believe you have any other options. That was “seriously, seriously good”!

Next Saturday at 7 p.m., Britain’s Got Talent airs on ITV, STV, ITVX, and STV Player.

Houthis maintain pressure on Israel as US launches more strikes on Yemen

In response to Houthi forces’ third consecutive day of daily attacks on Yemen, Israel has intercepted a missile fired from the country.

Following the missile launch, the Israeli army announced on Saturday that it had activated air raid sirens in various parts of the country.

No serious injuries or harm was reported. Yahya Saree, a spokesman for the Houthis, claimed responsibility for the attack and claimed it was an Israeli operation in Gaza.

As Israel continues to occupy Gaza and the West Bank, the Houthis have increasingly targeted Israel and shipping routes in the Red Sea, claiming that their actions show Palestinians’ solidarity with them.

Prior to Israel blocking all aid into the besieged enclave in early March and the subsequent full resumption of the war, the Houthis did not carry out attacks during the earlier ceasefire in Gaza.

Meanwhile, the US conducted two airstrikes on Yemen’s Kamaran Island and as-Salif district in the Hodeidah port city, according to Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV’s report on Saturday.

The Ras Isa oil port in Hodeidah’s as-Salif district was the site of seven US attacks, according to the same news outlet. At least 80 people were killed and 150 were hurt in a US strike on the same port last month, according to one of the deadliest attacks by US forces on the nation.

The US has also launched its largest military operation in the Middle East since January when it launched its airstrikes against Yemen.

Although US forces claim to have struck Houthi positions, numerous civilian casualties have occurred.

The US’s high civilian casualties are alarming everyone in increasing numbers. Between 27 and 55 civilians were killed in March alone, according to the UK-based monitor Airwars. The death toll for April is anticipated to be higher.

According to Houthi sources, at least 68 African migrants perished in a single overnight strike on Monday, along with additional casualties reported in the capital.

The prime minister of Yemen resigns

Political unrest is waning in Yemen as the conflict gets worse.

The internationally renowned government’s prime minister, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, resigned on Saturday, citing ongoing difficulties, including his inability to reshuffle the cabinet.

Mubarak’s departure, according to government insiders, was caused by a power conflict with Rashad al-Alimi, the leader of the Presidential Council.

According to the state-run SABA news agency, the presidential council appointed finance minister Salem Saleh bin Braik as prime minister shortly after the announcement. Without addressing his claims, the council also appointed bin Mubarak as a ruling body’s advisor.

The ongoing conflict in Yemen has had a significant impact on Mubarak’s political career. He gained notoriety after being abducted by Houthi fighters in 2015 while serving as Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi’s chief of staff.
