Partick Thistle vs. Ayr United in the Scottish Premiership play-off quarter-final first leg
In the Premiership play-off semi-finals, a rampant Partick Thistle wiped out Ayr United 8-0 on aggregate.
This time around, they are more likely to be one-sided than they are as they prepare to meet once more, this time in the quarter-finals.
In fact, this time around, Ayr United should be in favor of Ayr United.
The table was finished third by Scott Brown’s side, eight points clear of Thistle.
Add to this the fact that the Honest Men already had a play-off spot after resting several players against Airdrieonians on Friday.
Partick Thistle, in contrast, had to battle valiantly to secure their play-off spot at Livingston.
That was well-executed by a close fight to win 1-0, but a Thistle side had to be at full throttle to endure it.
Over the years, we have seen how the pressure of a demanding workload can strain Championship teams looking to reclaim their Premiership.
However, Thistle’s sheer will should not be underestimated with Brian Graham serving as the frontrunner.
The club’s captain and interim co-manager, Mark Wilson, will want to appoint evidence to the public that they are capable of advancing the organization.
Bottom line: Partick Thistle would benefit financially from a return to the top flight, given that the club has recently made significant budget cuts.
However, Ayr United also has a strong will to win. With Scott Brown in charge, how could it not be?
Under the leadership of Ayr United’s chairman and construction tycoon David Smith, something significant is being steadily being built. However, the question persists: Is it too soon for the Ayr United team to rise to the top?
Additionally, Partick Thistle have won two of their previous four games at home this year, making it worthwhile to mention that they have slightly better results. One home victory and one draw were recorded at Somerset Park.
Ayr only managed two victories out of their last nine, which is also worth mentioning.
Although Partick Thistle’s previous two matches featured victories over Falkirk and Livingston, Partick Thistle’s form had been a little inconsistent. However, you have to wonder how much of them that was taken.
In a McLaren one-two, Oscar Piastri defeated teammate Lando Norris to claim the victory in Miami, bringing the three victories in a row to three.
Norris now leads Piastri in the drivers’ championship by 16 points.
Meanwhile, Ferrari were embroiled in a controversy over team orders after Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were both asked to swap positions.
What on earth is wrong with Ferrari, exactly? – Jonathan
Following the Miami Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc’s team-order debate dominated the news conference of Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur.
Vasseur expressed some resentment toward this, saying in the end, “It’s not the story of the day,” noting that the only difference was the driver’s seventh and eighth-place finish.
“I would be much more keen to speak about why we finished one minute behind McLaren”, he said.
Ferrari paid the price for their poor grid positions, according to Vasseur, who claimed that the car’s pace was comparable to that of Max Verstappen’s and Mercedes-Benz. He acknowledged that McLaren was “on another planet.”
Charles Leclerc qualified eighth and Lewis Hamilton 12th, Ferrari’s worst qualifying result of the season, and that was largely because they were struggling to get the best out of new tyres.
In the second set of qualifying, Hamilton and Leclerc ran on second-hand tires. Everyone improved between 0. 5 and 0. 6 seconds between being scrubbed and new, according to Vasseur, and we lost 0. 2 to 0. 3 seconds.
Asked why Ferrari struggled with tyres in Miami, he said: “That’s a good question. We would have fixed it between Q2 and Q3 if I knew the solution.
You must operate the tires in a very small window, they say. It’s different from track to track, it’s different from compound to compound, from track temp to track temp. And you always respond, “OK, I could have done something else,” after the session. ” “
But that was just Miami. Ferrari’s overall problem is that, after running McLaren so close to winning the constructors’ title last year, the car is not where it should be.
Ferrari simply needs to make the car faster, especially McLaren, which made more progress over the winter.
On average, it is the slowest of the top four teams, and Ferrari have scored only one grand prix podium, thanks to Leclerc in Saudi Arabia.
Hamilton and the team appeared to have found a good setup after just one practice session in China, while others did not, and then gained from fresh air at the start of the race.
Lewis did an outstanding job, Leclerc once said. Maybe some drivers didn’t put everything together in (sprint) qualifying and he managed to do that and managed to outperform the car a bit.
When you start in front, everything comes to you a little more, with tire degradation being a big deal. On Friday and Saturday, Lewis made a difference.
There are what Vasseur calls “some small upgrades” coming at the next two races in Imola and Monaco. Vasseur hopes that the stricter front wing deflection regulations that will be implemented at the following race in Spain will help.
In Barcelona, he declared, “Everyone will have a new front wing.” “By definition and by regulation. Perhaps it will be a resumption of everyone’s performance, in my opinion.
The result is that McLaren can profit from exploiting this phenomenon. McLaren themselves say they expect it to make little difference to them.
After challenging initials, Ferrari made good progress with upgrades in both 2023 and 2024. Vasseur is confident that this year they can do the same.
Is the risk that Mercedes took bringing Kimi Antonelli into the team now rather than later paying off? – Callum
Kimi Antonelli’s debut Formula 1 season started out well, and he claimed his strategy was to build slowly and avoid making major errors.
In Miami, the 18-year-old for the first time showed a glimpse of the high potential Mercedes believed him to have, and which persuaded them to throw him in at the deep end this year.
He was a confident driver from the beginning and consistently led the Mercedes over a lap.
Pole’s outstanding performance in the sprint race earned him a third place finish on the grid for the grand prix. Neither race went as well, but team principal Toto Wolff believes that was evidence of Antonelli’s continued need to learn in the complex world of F1.
Wolff referred to the qualifying performances as “another example of his talent and a promising future outlook.”
It’s challenging in the race because it’s so challenging to locate the appropriate reference here. The medium (tyre) stint, quick enough, you know, with George (Russell) holding on in the back on the hard tyre.
“And then, when he entered the difficult, he simply lacked the necessary experience to manage it.”
“We’re trying to guide him and find the appropriate references, but it’s not simple to do that in that car.” It’s just part of the learning curve”.
Wolff has always said that Antonelli’s adaptation to F1 will take time, which is exactly how it is going.

Given that he hasn’t yet scored a single point, how can Fernando Alonso turn things around? – Andrew
It’s fair to say that Fernando Alonso is not having his best season, and it’s highly unusual to see that he has scored no points while team-mate Lance Stroll has scored 14 points and is 10th in the championship.
The Aston Martin is a poor car overall. Despite making a few errors, Alonso and Stroll have both had positive effects from the circumstances.
Alonso is still comfortably faster than the Canadian – the two-time champion is 7-1 ahead across all qualifying sessions at an average advantage of 0.321 seconds.
He crashed on gravel at Turn Six despite being well-versed in the wet and finishing sixth overall in Australia. Stroll’s strong driving and maneuverability helped her move up and take sixth place because of the chaos in the race.
Stroll then benefited from the disqualification of both Ferraris in China, and was promoted to ninth place. Alonso immediately retired there, his brakes in gear.
Stroll benefited from the chaos in the Miami Sprint, where Alonso was safely driving and on point when he was struck by Liam Lawson.
His spin in the grand prix, while uncharacteristic, “didn’t change anything”, he said.
“I lost five seconds, and then ten more seconds later, I caught the same group of cars, stayed put, and then profited from the virtual safety car.”
Even with that, today’s cars aren’t moving as fast as the cars in front. We need to get better for Imola. Despite our best efforts, we are all trying to keep our pace at this.
Andy Cowell, the Aston Martin team manager, praised Alonso’s outstanding and impressive qualifying performance in Jeddah. But with no retirements, Alonso finished just out of the points in both races.
The car is actually eighth fastest on average in qualifying, and it was fastest in Miami. Therefore, it’s always challenging to get points.
Cowell said in Miami that Aston Martin were” not a happy camp and we’re trying to work out (what has gone wrong) “.
Aston Martin had rejected Alonso’s request for a previous change to slicks in the Saturday sprint in Miami, but Alonso expressed disappointment and said, “I am trying to do my best behind the wheel.”
“I nailed Japan, P11,” the singer said. Jeddah was nearly perfect. When chaos occurs, you have three or four chances to score points, as I previously mentioned.
“Two people were present this year already. Australia, and I had the mistake and went on the gravel and went off. I had my brakes on fire on lap one in China, with three or four cars disqualified.
“And yesterday the track had dry tires, and we stuck to the inters for too long.”
In the first games of their Conference play-off semi-finals, the Boston Celtics were humiliated by the New York Knicks, and the Oklahoma City Thunder were defeated by the Denver Nuggets.
In the opening game of their Eastern Conference best-of-seven series, the Celtics, the reigning champions, were facing a 108-105 overtime defeat at home.
The Knicks rallied from a 20-point deficit in the third quarter with 29 points from Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby.
Tom Thibodeau, the coach of the Knicks, said, “This team has been a pretty good road team all year.”
“It’s a game,” The play-offs have a lot of emotional highs and lows, but you have to keep moving forward no matter what happens.
With three more seconds left in regulation, Brunson missed a layup, and Jayson Tatum, who had 23 points for the Celtics, missed a long-range shot at the buzzer before the Knicks won in overtime.
Coach Joe Mazzulla for the Celtics, “We left some of their good shooters open.” There is “detail stuff” that needs improvement.
On Wednesday, Boston will host Game 2 of the series at 19:00 local time (2:00 Thursday BST).
The Thunder, who finished in the top division, were defeated 121-119 by a visiting Nuggets team, who had been inspired by Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon.
After Chet Holmgren missed two free throws for Thunder, Jokic scored a game-winning three-pointer in the closing seconds while Gordon went up the other end and added six more points.
With 22 points and 14 rebounds, Gordon came out on top.
Denver put up a 19-6 run to end the series, which they had been 13 points apiece at one point in the fourth quarter.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander top scored for the Thunder with 33 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.
Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said, “I didn’t think our execution was as flawless as it can be.” However, we will take its lessons. It’s a series, really.
On Wednesday, Oklahoma will host Game 2 of the series at 21:30 local time (03:30 Thursday BST).
As the formal mourning period for Pope Francis has ended, attention now shifts to the papal conclave in Vatican City, where powerful members of the Catholic Church are converging to elect the next pontiff.
At a ceremony of spiritual, political, and global significance, Cardinals from all over the world will elect the 267th pope, the leader of the 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide. After serving for 12 years in the papacy, Francis passed away on April 21 at the age of 88.
The conclave, which will kick off on Wednesday, will be held behind the closed doors of the Sistine Chapel. It lasts typically for several days and, occasionally, for weeks.
What we know is as follows:
What is a papal conclave?
Conclave is a term that derives from the Latin word “con clavis,” which means “with a key,” and is a reference to the custom of keeping the cardinals locked up until a new pope is elected.
A papal conclave is a solemn, secret election of the College of Cardinals in the Roman Catholic Church.
Known as the “princes of the church”, the cardinals follow an intricate and centuries-old process rooted in the Middle Ages.
Although the customs have changed, Pope John Paul II’s 1996 apostolic constitution, Universi Dominici Gregis, and subsequent modifications by Pope Benedict XVI, form the foundation of the current procedures.
Despite being under the age of 80, all cardinals are able to attend the meetings. There are currently 135 eligible voters.
A pope is what?
The pope is regarded as the first leader of the early Christian church and the follower of St. Peter, the head of Jesus’ apostles.
As such, the pope holds supreme authority over the worldwide Catholic Church in matters of faith, morals, governance and discipline.
252 cardinals support the pope, who is the spiritual leader of Catholics all over the world.
The pope is undeniably a powerful global figure, according to Father Francis Lucas, a Catholic priest and executive director of the Catholic Media Network, while Pope Francis stressed that Jesus Christ possesses real power and that he is merely a disciple.
The pope typically presides over major church celebrations held at St Peter’s Basilica throughout the year. At least once every five years, he is expected to meet with more than 5, 000 bishops from all over the world. He is also in charge of overseeing and administering the Vatican in his capacity as the bishop of Rome.
When will the conclave start?
The Apostolic Palace, or Papal Palace, at the Vatican, is where the papal conclave is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
This comes in addition to Francis’ customary nine-day mourning period.
What happens on the first day of the conclave?
Mass at 10:00 AM (08:00 GMT) to elect a pope
The day’s opening mass is “Pro Eligendo Pontifice,” a public ceremony led by the College of Cardinals dean, in St. Peter’s Basilica.
It’s a solemn liturgy asking the Holy Spirit to guide the church in selecting a new pope.
Procession into the Sistine Chapel at 4:30 p.m. (14:30 GMT).
The 135 cardinal electors chant the Litany of the Saints in the Pauline Chapel near the Sistine Chapel in the afternoon.
“This is an ancient prayer of the Catholic Church that names the saints in a sort of a roll call, one by one by one”, said Steven P Millies, professor of public theology at the Catholic Theological Union, a Catholic graduate school of theology in Chicago, Illinois, in the United States.
St. Peter, please pray for us. “St. James, pray for us,” Millies said, “seeing the intercession of all the holy men and women who have come before us for the success of the conclave.”
They then chant Veni Creator Spiritus and process into the Sistine Chapel.
The Holy Spirit, fully God as well as the Father and the Son, but the Spirit who guides the church, is also a prayer, Millies said.
Locking the conclave is “Extra Omnes”:
After taking an oath of secrecy, the phrase “Extra omnes”! (“Everyone out”) The chapel is sealed, and the declaration is made. Only the electors and essential staff remain, cut off from the outside world.
First vote
The cardinals have the option of casting just one ballot in the first day.
Return to residence
They return to their secured Vatican residence, the Domus Sanctae Marthae, where they spend the rest of the conclave in solitude.
Millies claimed that “this is a little different from what it was in the past.”
“In the old days, what they did was they converted the salons of the Apostolic Palace with very uncomfortable cots and pitchers of water. They built this hotel because it was very uncomfortable for a room full of very old men to have to sleep in such conditions, he continued.
What is the procedure for voting?
Voting after the first day occurs a maximum of four times: twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon.
Each cardinal chooses a candidate on the ballot that reads “Eligo in Summum Pontificem” (“I elect as Supreme Pontiff”) and writes in their name.
Before Michelangelo’s Last Judgement, they take the oath and place their votes in a chalice.

Voting is suspended on the fifth day to allow for prayer, quiet reflection, and informal discussions if a pope is not chosen within the first four days of the conclave.
A pope must be chosen with a two-thirds majority. If no one reaches that threshold, another vote is held. Votes are burned after each round.
No pope has been chosen, as evidenced by the black smoke coming from a chimney above the Sistine Chapel. White smoke signals the Catholic Church has a new pontiff.
A mixture of potassium perchlorate, anthracene, and sulphur produces white smoke, while potassium chlorate, lactose, and a conifer resin known as rosin are combined to create the latter.
By the end of the second day of voting, the last two conclaves, held in 2005 and 2013, had come to an end.
What challenges does the conclave face?
During his papacy, Francis significantly altered the College of Cardinals, focusing on pastoral issues and global representation. That presents its own set of difficulties.
“]The Catholic Church] is a church that has to understand how to be one church globally which is united on fundamental things but has to do things differently in different contexts”, said Massimo Faggioli, a professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Villanova University.
Because there is one canon law for every church, whether it be in Alaska or Indonesia, making that the most challenging aspect of Catholicism, he continued.

According to experts, each cardinal brings a distinct vision. Global South cardinals may seek a pope who supports interfaith dialogue while those from the Global South are likely to prioritize globalization and poverty.
According to Mills, “I believe what Francis was doing very intentionally was inviting those various concerns from various places to engage in dialogue.”
“And one thing, I think, that was very much on his mind was the church in parts of the world where Catholicism is a minority – where there are Muslim majorities or other majorities too. He made these decisions, he said, considering the Catholics’ experiences there, and I believe that was very important to him when he made those choices.
What are the church’s principal difficulties?
The Catholic Church today faces multiple challenges. In addition to declining attendance, growing secularism, and rising numbers of people who claim to be religiously unaffiliated, there are some other factors.
According to The Washington Post, which cited the Vatican in reporting, “The Holy See is receiving a steady 800 cases per year from places like Poland, Italy, Latin America, and Asia,” trust is still being eroded by widespread sexual abuse scandals.
Internally, tensions between modernising reforms (on issues like LGBTQ+ rights and women’s roles) and traditionalist values are growing.
However, creating a global church is regarded as one of the biggest challenges, according to experts.
According to Mills, “the Roman Catholic Church of the 21st century is getting to know what it means to be a global church.”
“And what it means to be a global church in the end is that the archbishop of New York City is every bit as much a Roman Catholic as the poor baptised worker in East Timor”, he added.
What transpires following the election of the pope?
He first accepts the position and chooses a papal name that best captures his vision or inspiration after being elected. The previous pope, whose real name was Jorge Mario Bergoglio, chose Francis as his papal name to honor St Francis of Assisi.
The “Room of Tears” then transforms the new pope into white papal vestments. The Room of Tears is reportedly named because many newly elected popes experience emotional shock as they first put on a white cassock and grasp the magnitude of their new responsibilities.
Shortly after, the senior cardinal announces “Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum, HabemusPapam”! () “I tell you that we have a pope! The new pope issues his first official blessing from St. Peter’s Basilica balcony.
” The installation of the new pope will complete that cycle of events. Then, according to Mills, we will begin looking into the appointments that a new pope will make within the Vatican administration.
What new appointments does the pope make, who sacks, and who stays. That will be very interesting to watch, as will the statements the new pope gives, “he added.
The brightest stars in Hollywood, music, sports and fashion hit the red carpet Monday for the Met Gala, the extravagant Manhattan fundraiser that this year spotlights the subversive style of Black dandyism.
The blockbuster night’s theme explores the sharply tailored dandy aesthetic and its rich, complicated history. It also celebrates the opening of a corresponding exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
But for the fashionistas, the Met Gala — always the first Monday in May — is simply one of the world’s top red carpets with blinding star power.

Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo and Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, two of the co-chairs of fashion’s marquee event, were among the early arrivals alongside gala supremo Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue.
Domingo paid tribute to the late Andre Leon Talley, Vogue’s first Black creative director and one of fashion’s towering figures, in a royal blue Valentino cape with a glittering white collar over a snazzy black and gold jacket and gray tweed trousers.
Hamilton meanwhile wowed in a sharp cream suit and matching backwards cap, diamonds glittering in his ears, as well as on his lapel, cuffs and hands.

‘New sense of importance’
The gala comes five years after the enormous anti-racist uprising of the Black Lives Matter movement, which pushed a number of cultural institutions in the United States to grapple with their representation of race and diversity.
This Met theme is years in the making but now coincides with Donald Trump’s recent efforts to quash institutional initiatives to promote diversity — a push to keep culture and history defined on the Republican president’s terms.
The Met Gala and its exhibit, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” promises a sharp contrast to that notion, a deep dive into Black dandyism from the 18th century to today.
“Obviously, this exhibition was planned many years ago, and we didn’t know what would be happening in the political arena, but it’s taken on a new sense of importance and purpose,” Wintour told AFP.

Subversion
Guest curator and Barnard professor Monica Miller’s book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity” was the Met’s inspiration.
Her book details how dandyism was a style imposed on Black men in 18th century Europe, when well-dressed “dandified” servants became a trend.
But Black men throughout history subverted the concept as a means of cultivating power, transforming aesthetic and elegance into a means of identity establishment and social mobility.

During the vibrant Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and 1930s, men wore sharp suits and polished shoes as a show of defiance in racially segregated America.
“Superfine” is a rare Costume Institute exhibition to spotlight men and male fashion, and the first to focus on Black designers and artists.
The Met Gala was first organized in 1948 and for decades was reserved for New York high society — until Wintour transformed the party into a high-profile catwalk for the rich and famous in the 1990s.
It remains a fundraiser for the Costume Institute. The famed Manhattan museum said Monday it expected to rake in $31 million this year.

Anna Ryder Richardson, the owner of her own zoo, has taken a different course in her life than the one she had before, a name that has changed living room design throughout the UK.
Anna Ryder Richardson has had a big change since her days on Changing Rooms(Image: PA)
Following her time as the host of a classic 90s show that transformed the nation’s living rooms, Anna Ryder Richardson has been on a weird and wild journey since Changing Rooms came to an end in 2004.
The interior design icon, Ryder Richardson lit up screens alongside Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen in the BBC reality show that ran for 10 seasons.
She founded her own interior design business in 1996, earning her first major TV success with her own design segment on GMTV, where she first discovered her passion for design while working in a children’s interior shop.
Prior to becoming one of the principal designers Changing Rooms, she would establish a friendship with Ainsley Harriot, a celebrity chef, who would introduce her to some producers.
When the show finished in 2004 Anna went on to appear in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in 2007 and became the sixth person to leave the jungle.

In addition to the jungle, Anna would also learn about wildlife when she conceived the idea of Manor Wildlife Park, a zoo in rural Pembrokeshire.
The designer bought and transformed the zoo alongside her ex-husband in 2008. She even documented her incredible mission to transform the site back into a Welsh tourist hotspot for the TV series Chaos at The Zoo.
The zoo has undergone significant renovations under their leadership, including the construction of a $ 300,000 rhino house and the introduction of new lion, zebra, and parrot species.
Owning the zoo was never plain sailing for the couple and caused various strains in their relationship. Sadly, they divorced in 2017, speaking to the Mail Online that “stresses and strains and expense of running our wildlife park have destroyed our marriage”.
Soon after their split, when they began to fight protracted legal battles for ownership, which she termed a “horrid limbo,” the rift emerged.
She just returned to the zoo.
Speaking on the ‘How To Be 60’ podcast, the 61-year-old told Loose Women anchor Kaye Adams: “I am enjoying a bit of celibacy, to be honest… but we’ve dived straight in there, haven’t we? I’m officially still married for another few weeks.
“I believe it was probably the worst time.” Actually, it has been going on for a very long time. Has my time been wasted? Despite how I appear to be, I still have control and limbo, and I don’t really live my life. “
Ryder Richardson resuming her role as zoo manager in October 2024, it appears to have settled the dispute.
