At the Jack Nicklaus Memorial Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, Ben Griffin shot a seven-under-par 65 to take the lead.

Collin Morikawa and fellow American Collin Morikawa shot up Griffin’s lead after the latter’s win, which was his first PGA Tour victory last week.

Robert Griffin, 29, took control of the seventh hole with an eagle and four birdies in the final five holes.

In the end, Morikawa, who twice finished second in this competition, went round in five under Max Homa, who was a shot further back.

“Look at the season Rory has had,” the quote read.

Rory McIlroy, the previous masters champion, will miss the event because he chose to compete in the Canadian Open the following week.

The 36-year-old from Northern Ireland skipped The Sentry and the RBC Heritage for the third time this year that he hasn’t participated in one of the PGA Tour’s signature events.

Nicklaus and PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan both defended McIlroy’s decision, and Nicklaus said he understood it.

“Rory McIlroy has participated in this tournament every year since 2017,” McIlroy said. And you consider the competitions he supports, Monahan said.

“I don’t have any concerns because, in the long run, his support for our tournaments and our partners is extraordinary.

Look at Rory’s entire season. He has a transformative season.

Di Maria to return to boyhood club despite previous threats

Ten months after being forced to resign from his role in Benfica’s boyhood club Rosario Central due to threats of death, Angel di Maria will return to his old club.

The 37-year-old joined Rosario in 2005, and the top-flight Argentine club announced his return on Thursday.

There are more pages to write about our history together. The Rosario-based club posted a video to X that read, “Welcome home.”

Before joining Benfica in Europe, the 2022 World Cup winner spent two seasons with Rosario.

He then appeared in more than 700 international matches for Juventus, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris St. Germain, and Benfica.

Di Maria’s plans to rejoin Rosario as a free agent were put on hold last summer due to rising drug-related violence and threats to his and his family.

Di Maria stated in a statement from last July that there was a threat to my sister’s business, a box with a pig’s head and a bullet in the forehead, and a note that said my daughter Pia would be the next head when I went back to [Rosario] Central.

“Those months were terrible. We were only able to linger on the floor and we cried each night because we couldn’t carry that dream back.

Di Maria has won 30 European titles, including titles in three leagues, the 2013-14 Champions League with Real, and the World Cup and two Copa America titles with Argentina.

Fearnley sets up all-Scottish French Open tie against Norrie

In a memorable late-night thriller, Jack Draper defeated home favorite Gael Monfils to secure a third-round matchup that will feature three British men for the first time since 1968.

Fifth seed Draper stayed focused and regrouped to defeat Court Philippe Chatrier 6-3,4-6,6-3, 7-5 with the Parisian crowd ready to take on 38-year-old Monfils.

Monfils, the former world number six, was unable to serve out at 5-3 or take two set points at 5-4 in a tense contest that featured high-quality rallies and entertainment.

The best Roland Garros win of his young career was incredibly well-maintained by Draper, 23.

After that, Draper said, “My brain was fried out here.”

“I’m not sure if I’ll go to sleep tonight because of what Galel was doing out here. My brain is just all over the place.”

Jacob Fearnley and Cameron Norrie, who play each other in an all-British meeting, are the next-to-be-played Brazilian teenager, who is the British number one.

Fearnley, 23, made progress when Ugo Humbert, his French rival, retired after a bad fall.

When 22nd seed Humbert resigned, Fearnley, who had earlier this year taken Norrie as the country’s top female, was leading 6-3 4-4.

Federico Gomez, 29, defeated Argentine qualifier Federico Gomez 7-6 (9-7) 6-2 6-1 to claim his place earlier on Thursday.

Draper shows maturity to eke out the Paris crowd.

Draper has grown to be a dominant player with real ambitions to win the biggest prizes in the sport over the past year.

Another illustration of the Englishman’s growing maturity was the way he overcame Monfils.

Draper has now come back with a point to prove after two agonizing experiences on the Paris clay.

For his first career victory at Roland Garros, he battled from a set down against Italian opponent Mattia Bellucci on Tuesday.

The popular Monfils, who can captivate audiences with his skillful shooting and infectious character, shares a similar theme.

One of his favorite sons playing in the final year of his career gave the French fans a reputation for being boisterous, which Draper had to block out to create an upbeat atmosphere.

Crucially, he managed to stay calm for the majority of the entertaining contest.

After Monfils leveled, Draper remained unapologetically led despite being enthusiastically cheered and with the audience yelling at him to stop.

Although a riot in his box caused some tension and drew home fans’ whistles, Draper was unable to stop him from dropping serve for 4-2.

Draper took his chance in the ninth game after missing five break-return points in the 13-minute seventh game, but Monfils added two more points.

Draper, however, is a different animal these days.

He showed once more that he can survive difficult circumstances well into Grand Slam competitions, despite avoiding a decider this time by winning three straight five-setters at the Australian Open in January.

At 11:44pm local time, Draper was able to continue playing with a clear mind, winning the match’s final five games and clinching a three-hour victory.

There were times when I was very irritated, but I kept reminding myself that this is why I put in the effort to play on these kinds of courts, Draper said.

Fearnley is helped by a nasty fall in setting up the Norrie meeting.

Another notable achievement for Edinburgh’s Fearnley was taking the title of British number two earlier this year.

Fearnley was ranked outside of the top 500 just 12 months after graduating from a US university in April of last year.

He has since broken ground at Grand Slam competitions and achieved one of the fastest climbs in ATP Tour history.

At Roland Garros, he and Swiss former champion Stan Wawrinka were paired against each other last week, and the draws continued.

In a capable position to face Humbert, he was benefited by his effective victory in calming the pro-Wawrinka crowd.

Fearnley sucked some energy from the home fans in a confident start thanks to his background in the trash-talking US college game.

In the second set, he did lose by a break, but he made it on a path no one would want to take.

In the eighth game, Humbert slammed his right leg as he stretched for a return at 40-40.

Fearnley’s French Open debut moved him into the top 32, making him 55th overall.

He will now turn his attention to Norrie, who also studied at Texas Christian University and eventually became a professional player.

Norrie, who placed 81st in the rankings, returned to form on clay and won one of his career’s most admirable victories earlier this week over Daniil Medvedev at Roland Garros, beating the then-world number one.

A different challenge presented itself when he faced 114th-ranked Gomez in a match he had anticipated to win.

I had to prepare for this game because I was the one who would win, according to Norrie.

Federal appeals court temporarily reinstates Trump tariffs

A day after a trade court determined that the tariffs were above the authority of the president, a federal appeals court temporarily reinstated (PDF) US President Donald Trump.

On Thursday, the Federal Circuit’s Court of Appeals in Washington temporarily halted the lower court’s decision, but it provided no justification for it, giving the plaintiffs only until June 5 to respond.

The Trump administration filed an emergency motion with the Federal Circuit, arguing that a halt is “essential to the country’s national security.”

The decision was applauded by the White House.

Trade adviser Peter Navarro said, “You can assume that we will find another way even if we lose tariff cases.”

His accusations that the three countries were facilitating the flow of fentanyl into the US were being tarnished or delayed by the US Court of International Trade’s surprise ruling on Wednesday, which had threatened to halt or delay Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs on most US trading partners as well as import levies on goods from Canada, Mexico, and China.

The International Court of Trade ruled that tariffs made under the IEEPA, which is typically used to address national emergencies rather than to deal with the country’s debt, were overreach.

According to experts, the IEEPA, which was passed in 1977, is only applicable to certain nations, US-designated “terrorist organizations” (terrorist organizations), or gang activity that is tied to specific circumstances. For instance, the US used the law to seize both the property of Colombian drug traffickers in 1995 and the property of Iran’s government during the hostage situation in 1979.

Bruce Fain, a former US associate deputy attorney general under Ronald Reagan, claimed that the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act doesn’t mention tariffs in any way.

In the event of a national emergency, Fein added that a statute, the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, permits tariffs. He did point out that the commerce secretary must conduct an investigation and that product-by-product regulations cannot be applied.

‘Product-by-product’

Despite the appeal court’s reprieve, the administration’s economic strategy, which has so far resulted in lower consumer confidence and a US decline in its top credit rating, has been criticized for its decision on Wednesday.

In the end, according to experts, the tariffs won’t be effective.

Attorney Peter Harrell, a fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that importers should eventually be able to recover any [IEEPA] tariffs they have already paid. However, the government will likely try to hold off on refund requests until the appeals are over. ″

The Congress has the authority to determine the tariff levels. There is no mention of raising tariffs in the IEEPA. And it was actually passed to lessen the president’s authority. According to Greg Schaffer, professor of international law at Georgetown Law School, the president is rewriting the tariff schedule for the entire world.

The Trade Expansion Act, a law that was used to justify tariffs on steel, aluminum, and cars, did not appear before the US trade court.

Similar narrow tariffs can also be applied to other industries, such as Chinese pharmaceuticals. The US Department of Commerce announced in April that it would look into whether US reliance on China for active ingredients in important medications posed a threat to national security and warranted tariffs.

Former associate deputy attorney general Fein said, “This is not a question of whether the president can impose tariffs.” He may use the 1962 Act after conducting a study and demonstrating that it is not arbitrary and capricious and that it uses a product-by-product approach rather than a country-by-country one. ”

Spice Girls manager takes drastic measures amid reunion hopes and ‘stubborn’ Victoria

Former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller is reportedly considering a reunion with the pop group as digital avatars, in a similar vein to ABBA’s popular hologram show.

Talks are underway for the Spice Girls to make a comeback – but not in the usual way. Their former manager, Simon Fuller, is reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing the iconic group back as digital avatars, following the path set by ABBA’s successful hologram residency.

Sources have revealed that Fuller has pitched this cutting-edge concept to the band, envisioning lifelike holograms of Geri Halliwell-Horner, Mel B and Mel C, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham performing their greatest hits. Although Victoria opted out of their 2019 tour, insiders say she’s open to this new approach as long as all the other members are on board. One insider shared: “Simon is eager to pull off one final spectacle with the Spice Girls, and this is his latest brainchild.

He believes that the Spice Girls would benefit greatly from using this approach because he was the creator of ABBA’s ground-breaking digital shows. This might be their best chance to reunite because it seems unlikely to happen once more because Victoria, for example, isn’t likely to be a full-time member.

The band responded favorably to Simon’s suggestion, the source said. Even Victoria vowed to support it if everyone else would concur. She continued, “She wouldn’t stand in the way.”

Fuller reportedly sees this venture as a way for the group to generate income effortlessly while also connecting with a brand-new generation of fans. “It’s an incredibly exciting concept, and he’s confident it can be pulled off,” the inside told The Sun.

The idea is similar to Simon’s pitch to ABBA nearly ten years ago, but they eventually switched to a more up-to-date production. The hologram residency of ABBA in East London has had a fantastic success and is now in its third year.

A virtual Spice Girls residency has previously been supported by Victoria herself. She responded, “That’s a great idea, I tell you, on American television in 2022,” when asked about the idea.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Geri and Simon had a secret meeting in Miami about plans for a reunion in 2026, which would celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the release of their debut single “Wannabe.”

Earlier this year, Mel C also hinted at a reunion, saying, “We have to do something special. Obviously, I can’t say too much but we are talking about things. Hopefully a nice little world tour.”

The Mirror has reached out to Simon’s representatives for comment on this story.
