Sky beats Samsung by handing out a £220 freebie with new S25 Edge phones

Retailers are already trumping Samsung’s own deal on its newest Galaxy S25 Edge mobile – here’s two retailers offering better deals with huge freebies

Sky’s price trumps Samsung on its flagship Galaxy S25 Edge mobile – here’s how much it costs

Earlier this week Samsung took shoppers by surprise with its newest mobile, the Galaxy S25 Edge. An model to its existing 2025 S range it is thinner, lighter, and branded as an ‘egineering feat’ by industry experts. Despite the success from the brand, we’ve found a retailer trumping its price.

Sky Mobile is beating Samsung’s price by throwing in a pair of £219 Buds3Pro for shoppers when they buy. All while offering the exact same free storage offer that Samsung has on its site.

Sky shoppers can buy the S25 Edge from £40 a month, which will tie them into a 36-month contract, with no upfront cost. And in line with a popular pre-order deal the bigger 512GB S25 Edge can be ordered for the same price as the 256GB one – with data added as an extra fee.

This matches Samsung’s free storage offer too where the 512GB S25 Edge is on sale for £1,099 opposed to its £1,199 price, although this has since sold out at the Galaxy Store. Making Sky a fit when it comes to stock, not to mention the free Buds3 Pro earphones.

Another retailer on our radar is Mobiles.co.uk as it offers the new Galaxy model with the same storage offer and options to get money off with trade-in, depending on the network data plan shoppers pick. Another option for consumers who’d prefer to split the cost over a few years instead of paying the total cost at once.

Another retailer is Amazon, which states the Galaxy S25 Edge will be ‘released on May 29.’ It’s also matching Samsung’s £1,099 price on the 512GB model – an option to go for now that Samsung has seemingly sold out.

Shoppers who buy the Samsung model from Sky will get the £219 accessory for £0, but there is a list of requirements to stick to. Shoppers need to purchase the model between May 13 and May 29 (the date the free storage offer ends, too) to get the buds added to their order.

This doesn’t appear in shoppers’ baskets, but Sky says it will ‘automatically appear in order confirmations’. The Buds3 Pro will be shipped out along with shoppers’ new S25 Edge handset. For shoppers buying more than one Galaxy S25 Edge, it’s worth noting that only one free accessory will be sent out per order.

Another thing to mention for Sky shoppers is its contract length, which is long at 36 months. Despite looking like a 24-month contract (in bold letters on the site) this is only the period when customers can swap their device, not when the contract ends – a feature which could catch some shoppers out.

Launching at £1,199, the S25 Edge is certainly one of the more expensive models to buy, a lot more than the S25 starting price of £799. Which is why the brand’s previous Galaxy S25 could be of more interest.

The newest S25 Edge model’s only downside (so far) is its smaller battery, which has less oomph than the standard S25 range despite being more expensive. However, it does feature the same speedy processor.

UPDATED: JAMB Registrar Fights Tears, Apologises For Errors In 2025 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has admitted that errors affected candidates’ performance during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, which was held across different centres in the country.

The Registrar of the board, Ishaq Oloyede, who disclosed this during a media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, also broke down in tears while admitting to the error.

“Once again, we apologise and assure you that this incident represents a significant setback…. We remain committed to emerging stronger in our core values of transparency, fairness and equity.

“It is our culture to admit errors because we know that in spite of the best of our efforts, we are human; we are not perfect,” Oloyede said as he wiped tears off his eyes with a white handkerchief.

He also announced that about 379,997 candidates in the just concluded 2025 exercise would retake the examination.

This followed widespread complaints of technical glitches, unusually low scores, and alleged irregularities in the questions and the answers during the exercise.

‘Man Proposes, God Disposes’

However, in a post on its X handle on Wednesday, the examination body established that a technical glitch affected 157 out of the 887 centres.

It said this was responsible for the general low performance of the candidates.

It said,Man Proposes, God Disposes! It has been established that a technical glitch affected 157 centres out of the 887 centres in the 2025 UTME. This was basically responsible for the general low performance of the candidates scheduled to sit the examination in those centres.

“As such, all the affected candidates will be contacted to reprint their examination slips towards retaking their examinations starting from 16th May, 2025.”

2025 UTME Breakdown

JAMB released a statistical breakdown of the 2025 UTME, which revealed that over 1.5 million of the 1.95 million candidates who took the examination scored below 200.

In a post on its official X on May 5, it highlighted that 1,955,069 candidates sat for the examination, and 1,534,654 candidates—representing 78.5 percent—scored below the 200 mark.

A breakdown of the results showed that only 4,756 candidates (0.24 percent) achieved scores of 320 and above, while 7,658 candidates (0.39 percent) scored between 300 and 319.

Just 12,414 candidates (0.63 percent) scored 300 and above.

For the 250-299 score range, 73,441 candidates (3.76 percent) were recorded, while a larger proportion, 334,560 candidates (17.11%), scored between 200 and 249.

The category with the highest number of candidates was the 160 to 199 range, with 983,187 candidates (50.29 percent).

Further down the scale, 488,197 candidates (24.97 percent) scored between 140 and 159, and 57,419 candidates (2.94 percent) scored between 120 and 139.

A percentage of candidates, 3,820 (0.20 percent), scored between 100 and 119, while 2,031 candidates (0.10 percent) fell below the 100 mark.

In addition to the overall results, JAMB also disclosed that 40,247 underage candidates were allowed to participate in the examination due to their “exceptional abilities.”

However, only 467 of these candidates (1.16 percent) achieved scores that met the defined threshold for “exceptional abilities.”

In 2024, over 1.94 million candidates registered for the UTME, with 1,904,189 candidates taking the examination across 118 towns and more than 700 centres.

JAMB also said that only 0.4 percent of candidates who took the 2024 examination scored above 300, while 24 percent scored 200 or higher.

Malpractices, Investigation

JAMB also reported that 97 candidates were involved in examination infractions in the 2025 UTME, while 2,157 others were investigated for “suspected malpractices”.

The board further noted that 71,701 candidates were absent from the examination, and those facing biometric challenges were being investigated.

JAMB also noted that those cleared would be rescheduled for examination at designated centres.

It added that some results, including those of blind candidates and candidates in the JEOG category, are still being processed and will be released once finalised.

JAMB had assured that candidates who faced biometric challenges or were involved in investigations would be given fair treatment, with rescheduling for those cleared.

2025 UTME Review

On Monday, it ordered an immediate review of the 2025 UTME following a wave of public complaints alleging technical glitches, incomplete questions, and unusually low scores.

In a statement issued by its Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, the board acknowledged what it described as an “unusual volume of complaints” since the release of the UTME results last Friday.

It said the development had prompted it to fast-track its annual post-examination review process, typically occurring months after the exercise.

“We are particularly concerned about the unusual complaints originating from a few states within the federation. We are currently scrutinising these complaints in detail to identify and rectify any potential technical issues,” JAMB said in the statement.

Benjamin had added that if any faults were found in the system, the examination body would not hesitate to implement “appropriate remedial measures.

“To assist in this process, we have engaged a number of experts, including members from the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, chief external examiners, who are heads of tertiary institutions, the Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa, measurement experts, and vice chancellors from various institutions.”

While speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief last week, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, attributed the mass failure to the efficacy of JAMB’s anti-malpractice technology.

He said the Board’s computer-based testing system “had made cheating nearly impossible” and should be extended to other national examinations such as WAEC and NECO.

‘This cooling face tool instantly soothed my puffy eyes after a long flight’

If you struggle with a puffy face and eyes, especially during hay fever season, when travelling or after late nights, this new facial gadget is a must, says our beauty editor

Laura has been trying out this new cooling face tool(Image: Laura Mulley)

Puffy eyes are definitely one of my beauty bugbears, and they are, I think, especially bad when I’m tried, have been on a long flight, or have hay fever flare-up. I’ve tried plenty of thing to try to help, from the best eye creams to trending injectables, but I think I’ve hit upon a smart new facial tool that really helps.

Therabody, maker of the popular muscle pummelling guns, has just launched the TheraFace Depuffing Wand, designed to decrease puffiness, sculpt the face and boost circulation. Available in two colours and priced at £125, this nifty tool delivers cold and hot temperatures to the face in minutes, giving instant results. Here’s what happened when I tried it out after a day of travelling back from holiday, when I was looking and feeling especially tired…

It features three cold temperature settings(Image: Laura Mulley)

First up, it’s nicely hand-sized and compact, and really easy to use: simply hold the cold button to start the cold temperatures then toggle through three intensities, and do the same with the hot button for warm temperatures. When cold, the device makes a slight whirring sound, but it’s minimal.

Then all you need to do is sweep the nozzle over the skin where it’s needed – in my case, under and around my eyes. The specially shaped tip fits neatly into all of your face’s nooks and crannies, and it feels instantly refreshing. The programs last for three minutes before flashing to indicate that you need to switch sides, then automatically turn off after six minutes, after which, I could definitely see an improvement in my eye area: it looked brighter, fresher and less tired.

It also has three warm settings(Image: Laura Mulley)

Although similar results can be achieved with ice globes or a gua sha, the beauty of the TheraFace Depuffing Wand is that it never gets warm – something that I personally find annoying when I’ve used ice globes in the past – and giving optimum results for the whole treatment time.

One of advice I would give it to apply an eye cream or serum first, to avoid any dragging of the skin (I use it on top of the conductive gel after using my microcurrent face tool).

I also tried out the heat setting, focusing in particular on areas of blemishes to soothe them and attempt to draw out any gunk. While this did feel very nice, I don’t feel like there was any major benefits, and I probably wouldn’t use these warm settings very often.

Is this cooling tool an essential item? No, but if you struggle with puffy eyes, hay fever symptoms, hot flashes or even migraines, this might just be a godsend this summer.

Alternatively you can buy face rollers make of actual ice for around £5 on Amazon (watch out for drips though!), and if it’s serious face sculpting at home you’re after, however, you need the ZIIP Halo. Although expensive at £379, I’ve found that it really makes an instant difference to how lifted and toned my face looks.

Matthew Perry was ‘always in love with’ Courteney Cox – but stuck to casting rule

As Erik Fleming is sentenced in relation to the death of Friends star Matthew Perry, the Mirror takes a look at the sitcom icon’s allegedly strong feelings for his on-screen wife, Courteney Cox

The death of Matthew Perry shocked and saddened people across the globe, many of whom had felt they’d known his most famous character, Chandler Bing.

Friends icon Matthew was just 54 years old when, on October 28, 2023, he died in the hot tub of his LA home. His death was ruled as an accident from the ‘acute effects of ketamine’, and followed many years of addiction to drugs and alcohol.

Despite his difficulties, Matthew remained a source of inspiration for many and was an outspoken advocate for rehabilitation. And he never forgot the five castmates he rose to fame with as a young actor, with one member of the gang holding a particularly special place in his heart.

Now, Erik Fleming, one of the five people charged in relation to Matthew’s death, is due to be sentenced. Fleming, 54, pleaded guilty in August to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine as well as one count of distribution of ketamine resulting in death. He had initially been due for sentencing on October 30, but this date was delayed.

Those who knew Matthew best will no doubt be recalling happier times with the gifted actor, remembered for his comic timing and magic onscreen chemistry with Courteney Cox, who played his onscreen wife. Poignantly, it’s been reported that Matthew’s love for Courteney were real both on and off the script.

During their time together on the wildly popular sitcom, Matthew allegedly harboured strong feelings for Courteney, who was at that point in a relationship with her Scream co-star David Arquette. Sadly, it was reported he was never “able to get over her”.

Speaking with US Weekly in 2022, sources claimed: “Matthew’s always been in love with her. Matthew has never fully been able to get over her.” However, things remained strictly platonic between the pair, with the castmates making sure their close friendships never crossed over into romantic territory, unlike their fictional counterparts.

Opening up to Access in 2021, Matthew revealed that director Jim Burrows had implemented a “no hookup rule”. He explained: “There was a rule that we had, it was really important to the six of us, that we kept a friendship, that we were friends.”

In his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big, Terrible Thing, Matthew spoke fondly of Courteney, who he described as “cripplingly beautiful”. Making sure to include heartfelt messages to his fellow Friends alumni, Matthew also thanked Courteney “for making America think that someone so beautiful would marry a guy like me”.

In an Instagram statement following Matthew’s passing, Courteney paid tribute to her ‘funny’ and ‘kind’ co-star, and shared one of her fondest memories of their time working together. Courteney wrote: “I am so grateful for every moment I had with you, Matty, and I miss you every day. When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now, here’s one of my favourites.”

She continued: “To give a little backstory, Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one-night fling in London. But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story. In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind.”

Marking a year since his death, the actress posted on Instagram, “Missing you today and always,” alongside photos of the pair. Courteney and her former husband, David, whom she married in 1999, split in October 2010, and, as of 2013, the actress has been in a relationship with Snow Patrol guitarist Johnny McDaid, whom she met through mutual friend Ed Sheeran.

Speaking with NBC’s Today programme back in October, to mark the one-year anniversary of Matthew’s death, his family spoke of how he’d hoped to marry and have children of his own – a dream that never came to fruition. His sister, Emily Morrison, poignantly stated that all her famous brother “really wanted to do was to love and be loved”.

Scotland 162-2 (24.2 overs): Munsey 56, McMullen 50*

Scotland win by eight wickets

Scotland bounced back from successive defeats in Cricket World Cup League 2 by cruising to an eight-wicket win over United Arab Emirates in Utrecht.

The Scots had lost to the same opposition and the Netherlands in the past week and needed a win to get their campaign back on track.

Having struggled in those two matches, Richie Berrington’s bowlers delivered a fine performance after UAE opted to bat first.

Sussex seamer Brad Currie and new-ball partner Brandon McMullen took three wickets apiece, while McMullen also claimed a run-out as Scotland dominated from the off.

Only Muhammad Waseem (61) offered any resistance in a total of 161, hitting four fours and three sixes before he was bowled by McMullen.

In reply, George Munsey continued his fine form at the top of the order with 56 off just 45 balls to hammer home Scotland’s advantage.

McMullen then capped his fine outing with an unbeaten 50, becoming the fastest Scotland batter to reach 1,000 one-day international runs in the process.

He put on 60 with captain Berrington as Scotland reached their target with 25.4 overs to spare.

“Conditions suited me today with the ball,” McMullen said. “Very happy to contribute to the team’s success today.

“It’s been a bit frustrating the past couple of games with the bat, luckily today I went all the way through.

“It’s a massive honour and privilege to hold that record and hopefully it gets broken in the future.”
