Randle, Timberwolves eliminate Warriors in Game 5 of NBA playoffs

Julius Randle scored 29 points on 13-for-18 shooting, and the Minnesota Timberwolves held on for a 121-110 win over the Golden State Warriors to clinch their Western Conference second-round playoff series in Minneapolis.

Anthony Edwards finished with 22 points and 12 assists for Minnesota, which won the best-of-seven series in five games. The Timberwolves advanced to the conference finals, where they will await the winner of the series between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Denver Nuggets.

“It’s great,” Randle said on Wednesday night. “We’ve had a season full of adversity. Coach (Chris Finch) said at the end of the regular season that we didn’t do anything as far as trades or firing coaches. We just stuck together, and we got through it together.

“I’m super proud of our team, everybody that stepped up in some type of way this year. We got win No. 8 (in the playoffs). We’ve got to keep going.”

Brandin Podziemski scored 28 points on 11-for-19 shooting to lead Golden State. Jonathan Kuminga added 26 points off the bench, and Jimmy Butler III chipped in 17 points and six assists.

“It was a fight,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “I’m really proud of our guys. They hung in there and they battled the whole way through.

“(It was) quite a turnaround in our season from where we were a few months ago to giving ourselves a chance and having a swing at the plate for some real chances to go deep. We were right there. Obviously, it didn’t go our way. The Wolves were great, they deserved it. But I’m very proud of our team.”

The Warriors dropped their fourth straight game without Stephen Curry, who watched in street clothes from the bench. Curry injured his left hamstring in the series opener after leading Golden State to a first-round playoff series win over the Houston Rockets.

Kerr said of the challenge of playing without Curry, “Injuries are part of the playoffs. I learned a long time ago that the playoffs are really about health and then just guys stepping up and making some big shots, big plays in key games. That’s what decides every series.

“We’ve been on both ends of that. It’s just part of it. There’s no sense in dwelling on it, and I don’t want to take anything away from what Minnesota just accomplished.”

The Timberwolves led by as many as 25 points late in the third quarter. Randle dribbled the ball from one end of the court to the other and finished with a running layup to give the Timberwolves a 93-68 edge with 1:01 remaining in the third.

The Warriors made a determined push in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to nine. Moses Moody drained a 3-pointer to bring Golden State within 99-90 with 7:11 to play.

Edwards helped Minnesota regain a double-digit advantage moments later. He knocked down a 3-pointer to put the Timberwolves on top 102-90, and Jaden McDaniels increased the lead to 14 points with a steal and a layup with 6:36 remaining.

“The team has come together at the right time and is playing its best basketball,” Finch said.

The Timberwolves led 62-47 at the half.

Golden State trailed 45-42 after Podziemski made a jump shot with 4:11 left in the half.

Minnesota closed the second quarter on a 17-5 run to grab a 15-point lead. Randle finished the first-half scoring with a three-point play after making a layup and drawing a foul.

The Timberwolves shot 62.8 percent (49 of 78) overall and 41.9 percent (13 of 31) from beyond the arc. The Warriors shot 43.3 percent (39 of 90) from the field and 28.2 percent (11 of 39) from 3-point range.

Celtics rebound to win Game 5 without Tatum

In an earlier playoff fixture on Wednesday, Derrick White scored a game-high 34 points and the Boston Celtics extended their season by beating the visiting New York Knicks 127-102 in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference second-round series.

The Knicks lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 heading into Friday’s Game 6 in New York.

White shot 7-for-13 from 3-point territory and made nine of his 11 free-throw attempts. Boston sank 22 of its 49 shots from behind the 3-point arc (44.9 percent) and outscored New York 68-43 in the second half.

The Celtics received 26 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds from Jaylen Brown. Luke Kornet added 10 points, nine rebounds and seven blocked shots and Payton Pritchard came off the bench to make five 3-pointers and score 17 points.

“We made winning plays on both ends of the floor,” Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said. “They made enough plays to win. Gave us another chance to play.”

It was Boston’s second playoff game without All-Star forward Jayson Tatum, who had surgery on Tuesday to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon.

Josh Hart scored a team-high 24 points for New York, which shot 29-of-81 from the field (35.8 percent). Jalen Brunson collected 22 points and six assists, but he fouled out with 7:19 to play. Brunson was called for his fifth foul with 2:45 remaining in the third quarter.

“That we didn’t play for 48 minutes,” said Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau when asked what stood out on Wednesday. “We didn’t play tough with the lead. Can’t afford to do that.”

Israel kills dozens in Gaza as Palestinians mark 77 years since the Nakba

More than 74 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in a wave of Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, deepening an already catastrophic toll after 19 months of unrelenting bombardment.

At least 57 people were killed overnight and into Thursday in a barrage of strikes on residential areas in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, according to local health officials. Medical staff at Nasser Medical Complex reported an influx of casualties, many of them children.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, displaced Palestinian Hasan Moqbel described the continuing assault as a war on civilians. “They have been bombing Gaza for 19 months. What’s left in Gaza? Innocent children are dying. There is no armed activity here. Most of them are elderly people who are dying,” he said.

Among those killed was Palestinian journalist Hassan Samour. He and several members of his family were killed when an Israeli strike targeted their home in Bani Suheila, a town east of Khan Younis.

Earlier this week, another Palestinian journalist, Hassan Aslih, was killed in an Israeli drone attack on the emergency wing of Nasser Hospital. He had been receiving treatment for injuries sustained in a previous Israeli strike.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has killed more than 170 journalists and media workers, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), making Gaza one of the deadliest places in the world for the press.

The latest killings have triggered new waves of forced displacement. Thousands fled Gaza City on Thursday after the Israeli military issued sudden forced evacuation orders.

Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud reported scenes of panic and fear as residents packed their belongings and tried to escape the expected onslaught.

“We’re seeing families carrying their belongings and taking to the streets,” Mahmoud said. “The children and elderly are carrying whatever they’re able to carry … They don’t know where to go. There is no safe place for these people – the so-called shelters have already been destroyed by Israeli bombs.”

‘We have to flatten the West Bank’

Meanwhile, the Israeli government appears to be laying the groundwork for a parallel escalation in the occupied West Bank.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a key figure in Israel’s far-right coalition, has openly called for military forces to destroy Palestinian towns and villages in the West Bank, echoing the destruction witnessed in Gaza.

“Just as we are flattening Rafah, Khan Younis and Gaza, we have to flatten the terror hubs,” Smotrich said, referring specifically to the Palestinian village of Bruqin, where an Israeli settler was killed on Wednesday evening.

Israeli forces launched new raids across the occupied West Bank at dawn on Thursday, storming cities and refugee camps including Tubas, Nablus, Bethlehem and Dura. Residents in Qalandia, Ya’bad, Fawwar and Askar camps also reported house raids, arrests and what rights groups describe as systematic abuse.

Palestinians remember the Nakba

The calls to escalate violence in the West Bank come as Palestinians mark the 77th anniversary of the Nakba, or catastrophe, when more than 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly expelled by Zionist militias during the creation of Israel in 1948.

More than 530 villages and towns were razed, and the majority of the Palestinian population was either killed or exiled. The newly created state of Israel seized 78 percent of historic Palestine. The remaining 22 percent – the West Bank and Gaza Strip – were occupied by Israel following the 1967 war and remain under military control.

Since October 2023, the Israeli army’s brutal offensive in Gaza has killed nearly 53,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

As the bombing continues and the death toll rises, rights groups, media freedom advocates and Palestinian civilians are warning of a campaign of deliberate annihilation.

Chiefs to begin their 2025 NFL season in Brazil

To play this video you need to enable JavaScript in your browser.

The NFL’s global reach will continue to grow in 2025 as the league ventures into more territories than ever before.

A record seven international games will be played during the regular season, with Dublin’s Croke Park one of this year’s new venues.

The schedule for the NFL’s 2025 season was released this week and the road to Super Bowl 60 starts on Thursday, 4 September, with defending champions the Philadelphia Eagles kicking off the new campaign.

The season begins with a bang as the Kansas City Chiefs visit Brazil the following day, then host the Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch in week two.

When does the NFL season start?

Since 2004, the opening game of the NFL season has featured the defending champions.

The Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans in February so will host this season’s kick-off game.

They will welcome their divisional rivals the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, 4 September (01:20 BST, 5 September).

The season’s first international game will take place the following day in Sao Paulo (01:00 BST, 6 September), where the Eagles beat the Green Bay Packers last season in the first NFL game to be held in Brazil.

This time round the Los Angeles Chargers will be the designated ‘home’ team against the Chiefs, who were denied a record third straight Super Bowl win by the Eagles in February.

What are the NFL’s Thanksgiving and Christmas Day games?

Football is a big part of the holidays in the US. The Detroit Lions have hosted a Thanksgiving game every year since 1934 and this season they welcome the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, 27 November (18:00 GMT).

After hosting their first Thanksgiving game in 1966, only twice have the Dallas Cowboys not played on the holiday, and this year ‘America’s Team’ face the Chiefs (21:30 GMT).

The Baltimore Ravens then complete the Thanksgiving triple-header at home to the Cincinnati Bengals (01:20 GMT, 28 November).

In 2023, the NFL played its first game on Black Friday – the day after Thanksgiving – and this year the Eagles host the Chicago Bears in a game which will be broadcast on Amazon Prime (20:00 GMT).

After streaming two games on Christmas Day last season, Netflix will again feature two festive fixtures, with the Washington Commanders hosting the Cowboys (18:00 GMT) before the Minnesota Vikings welcome the Lions (21:30 GMT).

When are the NFL London games?

To play this video you need to enable JavaScript in your browser.

As well as returning to Sao Paulo for the opening international game of 2025, the NFL will stage regular-season games in Ireland and Spain for the first time.

Germany will have its fifth regular-season game, with Berlin playing host for the first time, and there will again be three games in London – between 5 and 19 October.

This year the Minnesota Vikings will make history by becoming the first NFL team to play in three countries in one season, as they will visit Dublin and London in back-to-back weeks.

How many games are there in the NFL season?

The NFL season is spread over 18 weeks, with each team playing 17 games and having one bye week.

The regular season will end on Sunday, 4 January 2026, with the play-offs scheduled to begin on 10 January.

When is the Super Bowl?

Super Bowl 60 will be played on 8 February 2026 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, home of the San Francisco 49ers.

It will be the second time the 68,500-capacity stadium has hosted the big game, after the Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.

‘My honest review of Bella Hadid’s Orebella perfumes as they launch in the UK – are they worth £67?

Bella Hadid’s Orebella perfumes are finally available for UK shoppers, and I was one of the first to try them – but do they match up to the hype, and are they worth spending £67 on?

Bella Hadid’s Orebella perfumes are now available in the UK(Image: Orebella)

When it comes to celebrity perfumes, it can often seem like there’s very little thought that’s really gone into them. They usually all have a similar sweet, vanilla-based scent, an outlandish bottle, and a mid-range price point that means they’re neither luxury nor budget-friendly.

So when Bella Hadid first launched her fragrance range, Orebella, which not only promised to smell good, but had been designed for sensitive skin, inspired by scents she worked on herself with herbs and oils from her own farm, and promised skincare benefits, it seemed like finally there was a celebrity scent with some real love and thought behind it. Ahead of their launch today on Selfridges, I got my hands on all four of her Orebella perfumes to put them to the test and see how they really stacked up.

The perfumes promise to be hydrating, sensitive skin friendly, vegan and alcohol free, and were inspired by Bella’s own sensitivity to alcohol-based perfumes. As a fellow sensitive skin sufferer, I was very excited to try them out and see if they were as skin-friendly as they promised.

The perfumes are oil-based, blending aromatherapeutic essential oils and responsibly sourced ingredients, with Bella saying their scents were designed to “elevate mood, energy and aura”. Bella isn’t the only celeb to have taken this approach to her perfumes, though, as fellow supermodel Kate Moss also has an aromatherapy-based perfume with her Cosmoss Sacred Mist perfume (was £125, now £87.50).

However when trying out Bella’s Orebella perfumes, I tested everything from its initial scent to its longevity, as well as bottle design, how it felt on my skin and how different the four scents were from each other.

The perfumes are now available exclusively at Selfridges, with 50ml bottles costing £67, whilst 100ml bottles are £95. You can also pick up a 10ml bottle for £32.

Bottle Design

The bottles are beautiful but impractical(Image: Faith Richardson)

The very first impression of the Orebella perfumes was the bottle design. They’ve been created to look more like mini pieces of art on your dressing table than traditional perfume bottles, with an angular jewel-toned glass shape and contrasting gold lid.

However I hit my first problem with the perfumes before I’d even spray them – because the bottles won’t even stand up on their own. You have to buy a stand separately (for £28), which to me is a bit insulting after you’ve spent so much money on the perfume in the first place.

However the bottle itself is perfectly palm sized which makes it easy to spray, and the top felt secure once on, so the chance of leaks whilst lying on their side may be minimal. It just looks messy and lazy having them lying around on their side.

Skin feel

Disappointing bottle design aside, the initial spray was a joyous surprise. When it promised to be hydrating and feel good on your skin I was sceptical, however as soon as I spritzed it onto my arm and let it dry down, my skin really did feel instantly moisturised.

It’s worth noting that as it’s oil-based, you should avoid spraying this onto your clothes or hair as it’ll leave an oily residue. However, wherever you spray this on your skin it’ll definitely hydrate it and leave it feeling nourished and soft, which is a pleasant change from the usual drying alcohol-based scents.

The Orebella perfumes also had zero reaction on my sensitive, eczema prone skin. There was no redness, no reaction, nothing. It did spray on quite wet; you need to shake it vigorously until the formula turns cloudy before applying, and the spritz was quite direct and thick, rather than a light mist, but it was quick to soak into my skin.

Scent Payoff

Bella Hadid Orebella perfume review

The first spray left a very strong scent, and the diversity across all four scents is clear. There really is something for everyone, with my personal favourite being Nightcap, which combines vanilla, ginger and sandalwood for a spicy, warm and rich smelling scent.

The scent is powerful, and you don’t need much to get a strong scent payoff. It works best when you let it dry directly into your skin rather than rubbing it in, and spray on your pulse points where the warmth keeps the scent going.

The four Orebella scents are:

Nightcap – vanilla, ginger and sandalwood

Blooming Fire – patchouli, monoi and bergamot

Salted Muse – olive tree, cedarwood and sea salt

Window2Soul – Tonka bean, jasmine and rose

Longevity

Although the initial scent payoff was strong, it settled into my skin quickly and because of the oil-based formula your body heat will keep regenerating a new wave of scent throughout the day. However the longevity isn’t the strongest I’ve ever experienced – I found after about three hours I couldn’t smell it strongly unless I sniffed directly at the point that I’d sprayed it.

All in all, I loved the formula and “skinification” of these perfumes. They felt super nourishing and hydrating on my skin and left it feeling well cared for. Each scent is powerful and covers a wide range of preferred notes, whether you like spicy, floral, woody or earthy fragrances, with a great scent payoff.

King Charles’ painful ‘decision’ over Archie and Lilibet as ‘friend’ shares concern

King Charles is said to be heartbroken over his lack of relationship with his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet, but a source has revealed the monarch’s main priority

King Charles is said to be quietly heartbroken over the lack of a relationship with two of his youngest grandchildren – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet – but, according to insiders, he remains committed to putting duty first.

The monarch, 76, has missed out on key moments in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children’s lives, both of whom are being raised in California, thousands of miles from royal life and tradition. But a source has revealed that the King’s top priority must remain the stability and future of the monarchy, despite reportedly missing his son and grandchildren following their move to the US.

“The King does not like conflict and he would love for this all to be resolved,” the unnamed source told Grazia. “But Harry has to earn the trust back. The ball is in his court in that respect. The King loves his son and he is very sad he has not spent any time with Archie and Lilibet, but Harry hasn’t made reconciliation easy.”

The heartbreaking reality for Charles is that Archie, six, and Lilibet, three, are growing up almost entirely apart from the British royal family – and from the grandfather who reportedly longs to know them.

Since stepping down from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have made only brief appearances back in the UK, mostly for major family events like Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, King Charles’s coronation, and a visit following the King’s cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

Article continues below

Despite this distance, Charles is said to keep the door open. “He’s a magnanimous man, not a malicious one,” the ‘friend’ said. “But his priority is the preservation of the monarchy.”

Royal Family gathering

Prince Harry, for his part, has signalled a willingness to rebuild his relationship with his distanced family. The Duke of Sussex came back to London briefly earlier this month for a pre-scheduled court visit but failed to meet with his father.

It’s also claimed that Harry’s phone calls are going “unanswered”. But royal experts say words may not be enough. Royal commentator Robert Jobson believes Harry’s overtures could have landed better had he been more direct with his dad.

“Harry should have said to his father: ‘Sorry, I’ve got this wrong; I’ve made a mistake but I want to reconcile,'” Jobson told Hello! magazine. “Reading between the lines, it’s obvious Harry was making overtures to his dad. The only way to settle this and not overshadow the King’s reign is for Charles to bravely offer Harry another opportunity for reconciliation.

“I have the feeling it could have occurred, had Harry not said what he did. The King knows all about forgiveness, having made his own errors. If there’s someone who can rise above and extend an olive branch in these circumstances, it would be him.”

‘All I wanted was to play for Everton and play at Goodison’

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

At the end of the season, Everton will relocate to a new location at Bramley-Moore Dock, where they have lived since 1892, before saying goodbye to Goodison Park.

The final men’s senior game at Southampton’s historic home will be played on Sunday in the Premier League match.

Goodison will become the new home for Everton’s women’s team, who will be looking to create memories of their own at the famous old stadium.

However, Sunday’s game will mark the end of a era for the men’s side.

Everton has close ties to Wales, starting with the fans who visit Goodison Park on matchdays and the players who have worn the famous royal blue shirt.

Two former Wales and Everton captains, Kevin Ratcliffe and Barry Horne, were boyhood Evertonians who grew up in north Wales.

This location will be missed, according to the statement.

Getty Images

Ratcliffe is Everton’s most prosperous captain ever.

Under manager Howard Kendall, he led the Toffees to victories in the First Division, First Division, and FA Cup in 1985 and 1985, respectively.

Former defender Ratcliffe made his senior Everton debut in 1980, the first of 493 appearances for the club.

“I had one goal in mind: play football for Everton Football Club and play for Goodison,” he said.

” My family were all Evertonians. You’re going to sign for Everton, aren’t you? I was considering signing for Chester when Everton arrived.

“I just felt like I had a better opportunity at Everton and wanted to leave the Boys’ Pen and play on the pitch, despite the promise that I made at Chester that I would join the team before I was 17.”

” That was my dream – but not in my wildest dreams did I think I was going to be captain of them and winning things. That was an additional feature only.

Gordon Lee gave me my chance, and Billy Bingham was the manager who signed me as a schoolboy.

” But I didn’t start playing regular until Howard Kendall came to the club.

Everton 's 1987 Championship winning squad at Goodison Getty Images

Coventry City and Coventry City were in a third-round League Cup tie. Howard was under pressure and he wasn’t going to last until the morning had we lost that night.

We won a terrible game with a score of 2-1, and it seems like a rollercoaster ride from that point forward for the next four or five years.

“I can recall playing Manchester United here in October 1984. Manchester United had got off to a flyer that season and they were on about winning the league.

“The league doesn’t get won after ten games played,” Howard said, like many other managers in the past.

“We won them by 5-0, and we were fortunate to have won them by eight or nine.”

” It was one of those days that every single player was on top of his game and they (United) had a decent side.

Everton full-back Gary Stevens takes a shot against Bayern Munich in April 1985 at Goodison ParkRex Features

” The Bayern Munich game]in the 1985 Cup Winners Cup semi-final second leg] will take a lot of beating. The atmosphere was completely and unrealistic.

“The bus was rocking, and we couldn’t get down there because we had to get to the ground and turn around Bullens Road.”

” We literally got into the ground 45 minutes before the game because the streets were lined with fans – it was pay on the gate in those days.

“It was a legitimate game of football, with football being played as well as tackles going in everywhere.

“Lostahar Matthaus said Everton was the fittest team he’d ever played when they spoke with him about the game a few years ago.”

“I think that was a big compliment even though we thought we didn’t train that hard – that must have been how much we were loving it.

When Duncan Ferguson scored against Manchester United, I watched a game here, and that was the closest I could get to the atmosphere.

“When Wayne Rooney scored that goal against Arsenal, I would say the other one.”

” The atmosphere after the game, where people just stood in this ground looking and knowing they’d seen something special – and not just in a goal but as in a player as well.

You see this location as an arena, and you’re going to battle, you say.

The atmosphere here is “unbelievable,” and the fans make it happen.

“I always thought when I played here at night that I never got tired – that’s the difference between a daytime game and a night game with the atmosphere.

It occasionally zaps people’s energy, but for me, it kept me going.

Going to the new stadium will be fantastic because it’s a typical old ground and needs improvement.

We’ll all feel depressed, but it’s appropriate.

Midfielder Barry Horne joined Everton from Southampton in the summer of 1992 for £700, 000.

Everton signed St Asaph-born Horne in 123 league games, with the most notable of those victories coming against Wimbledon in 1994.

Horne, who was a key player in the last Everton team to win a significant trophy, left the organization a year later and eventually served as the Professional Footballers’ Association’s chairman.

Rhyl, Wrexham, Portsmouth, Southampton, “It did take a while for me to get here,” I said in the end.

“Throughout my career, all I wanted to do was improve and play at the highest level I could, wherever that might be.

” It just so happened that I got the chance to come here and that was the pinnacle of my career – that move and my time spent here.

“I spent two and a half wonderful years at Southampton under the direction of Chris Nicholl before changing managers and finding myself at the end of my contract.”

Spurs and Everton were my choices, but that was not the case.

Everton’s first goal in the Premier League is “my first goal,” and that statement will always be true.

The interesting thing about that day is that of the starting 22 players, 18 were English, and it was against a very strong Sheffield Wednesday team.

” Me and Nev were two of the non-English people. That demonstrates how times have changed.

Anyone can’t be proud of the outcome of the Wimbledon game and the struggle that followed.

” Ultimately we were part of the problem as the players that had put ourselves in that position.

“I can’t even imagine how different things would have been if we had gone down,” he said.

“We had a great team under Joe Royle,” said.

“We won the FA Cup by defeating all of the top teams at home and away.”

“We beat Newcastle here – Dave Watson scored in the Gwladys Street end and they were flying at the time.

Barry Horne holds the FA Cup aloft with goalscorer Paul Rideout and Graham Stuart following Everton's 1-0 win over Manchester United at Wembley in May 1995 Getty Images

“We won the FA Cup, and as great as the club is, they’ve only won it a few times, and I was one of the teams that did it.”

” I’m very proud to have to have played and been a part of the club’s history – a magnificent history.

You become aware of the history and some of the nights in particular as a result of constant video compilations and goal compilations about this place.

I was “desperate for many, many years” to leave Goodison, but you realize it’s getting old as you get older.

“It’s been a magnificent stadium – it’s had the World Cup here – but it’s had it’s time. Although we’ll all feel depressed, it’s appropriate.
