Bella Hadid pushes the boundaries of Cannes Film Festival ‘naked’ new dress rule

Cannes Film Festival implemented a last minute dress code rule putting an end to celebrities showing up to the red carpet with risqué outfits, and long time attendee Bella Hadid didn’t disappoint

Over the last few years, the Cannes Film Festival has been making headlines over the star-studded attendance and risqué outfits. However, a new dress code rule was implemented 24 hours before its 78th edition. Bella Hadid, who attended the event for the seventh time, shook the red carpet with a striking entrance.

The popular film festival held in the South of France that will take place in the French Riviera, from May 13 to May 24, 2025, has banned three types of gowns from the red carpet, as they aim for more ‘decency’ at this year’s event.

Following the last minute dress code rule, the supermodel pushed the boundaries by wearing a sleek black, high thigh-slitting Saint Laurent dress, which cheekily showed her side boob. The Orabella founder also debuted a new hair honey blonde colour, leaving fans on social media drooling over her good looks – and we don’t blame them.

According to the organiser’s website, “nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as any other area of the festival.” The affected garments are any voluminous dresses and dresses with long trains. This is because it has caused a disruption in the past with the “flow of traffic of guests and complicated seating in the theatre.”

Controversially, the ‘naked’ dress was banned from the festival, saying that nudity was no longer allowed for “decency reasons”. In 2024, Bella attended the event wearing a sandy-brown sheer tight dress with a halter-neck by Saint Laurent that showed her chest. Similar to her previous appearances at the Cannes Film Festival, her looks have been almost nude.

Other celebrities that have made grand and surprising entries at the film festival in the past are Kendall Jenner, Natasha Poly, Elle Fanning, Meredith Mickelson, Hari Nef, and Winnie Harlow.

Another example is Bollywood actress, Deepika Padukone, who before she came a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival, she wore a see through sheer gown designed by Zuhair Murad.

Although the dress didn’t expose much, the detailed embroidery and the floor-length cape with the plunging neckline caught the attention of many.

The new dress code is very specific. As informed by the festival: “For the Grand Théâtre Lumière gala screenings taking place around 7 and 10 pm, which are attended by the artistic teams, evening wear (long dress, tuxedo) is required. Alternatively, you may also wear “a little black dress,” a cocktail dress, a dark-coloured pantsuit, a dressy top with black pants […] a black or navy-blue suit with bow-tie.”

“Tote bags, backpacks or large bags are prohibited during gala screenings […] For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the Red Carpet, as well as in any other area of the Festival,” they continued.

The guidelines also said: “Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theatre are not permitted. The Festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit Red Carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”

Alleged Terrorism: Court Admits Gulak’s Death Certificate

The Federal High Court Abuja has admitted the medical report and death certificate of former presidential aide, Ahmed Gulak, as evidence in the ongoing trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is facing terrorism-related charges.

Justice James Omotoso, who presided over the proceedings, allowed the documents tendered by the prosecution through a witness identified simply as BBB, following no objection from the defence team led by Kanu Agabi (SAN), alongside Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume (SAN) and Aloy Ejimakor.

The prosecution, led by Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), presented the documents, which included a police report from Owerri, Imo State, linking Gulak’s death to gunmen suspected to be members of IPOB.

During cross-examination, Agabi challenged the credibility and completeness of the video statement obtained from Kanu during DSS custody, stating that only the defendant and his team were visible in the footage.

The witness responded, “That is the procedure,” affirming it was the full recording. When pressed further, he could not recall whether he wore a mask during the interview.

Agabi raised concerns over Kanu’s prolonged detention and alleged solitary confinement.

The witness, however, maintained that he was merely an investigator and not responsible for Kanu’s custody or welfare, saying: “Solitary confinement is not a practice of the DSS. I am not his handler.”

The defence further questioned the legality of the prolonged detention, claiming it constituted cruel and inhuman treatment, but the witness insisted he was unaware of Kanu’s psychological state and said it was not part of his investigative duty.

Under further scrutiny, the witness said he was not involved in drafting the charges and could not confirm the dates of various charge amendments against the defendant.

Agabi asserted that the charges were speculative, to which the witness reiterated his limited role as an investigator.

In a dramatic turn, the court was told that despite multiple amendments to the charge sheet over several years, the investigating officer had not confronted Kanu with his accusers.

The witness admitted he only presented a letter from the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) but did not facilitate any face-to-face encounter.

Tensions rose when Agabi argued that the AGF had directed an investigation long after charges had been filed. The witness said he was unaware of when the charges were filed and insisted he acted only on the directive minuted to him.

On requests for critical documents, Agabi informed the court that the defence had applied for certain police records but had yet to receive them. While Awomolo opposed an adjournment, citing a prior court order for accelerated hearing, Justice Omotoso granted a short adjournment.

“The matter has international and domestic interest,” the judge noted, warning against unnecessary delays.

“I am inclined to grant the adjournment today to ensure the defence is properly heard. Please use the opportunity well; we are here for justice.”

Before adjourning, Justice Omotoso sought clarification over claims that Kanu’s lawyers were denied access to him by the Department of State Services (DSS).

While Kanu Agabi (SAN) denied being denied access, the court expressed concern over a conflicting social media post by one of Kanu’s lawyers, Aloy Ejimakor.

The judge cautioned Ejimakor against unprofessional conduct and urged all counsel to verify information before publishing, particularly on social media.

Katie Price has revealed her hopes to reconcile with ex-husband Peter Andre after their messy split in 2009. The former glamour model, 46, and Mysterious Girl singer Peter, 52, fell for each other after appearing on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2004, with viewers watching their flirty relationship blossom in the jungle.

After leaving the jungle, the two were inseparable and secretly got engaged in May of the same year. They tied the knot in September 2005 and welcomed Junior and Princess Andre. Their whirlwind romance soon fell apart and they divorced in 2009, never to speak again, despite sharing two children.

Peter believed she had an affair with her dressage rider, Andrew Gould, which she denied as she shut down the claims during her chat with Celebs Go Dating expert Paul C Brunson on his podcast, We Need To Talk.

The split “wasn’t mutual at all” and Peter claimed at the time of their split he was “absolutely gutted” after Katie took their kids back to the Maldives villa where they’d spent their 2005 honeymoon.

Katie even admitted that the separation hadn’t been her choice. “Pete is the love of my life and my life. We have children together, and I am devastated and disappointed by his decision to separate and divorce me as I married him for life,” Katie told The Mirror at the time.

“This is not what I want, and the decision has been taken out of my hands. I will not comment further or do any interviews regarding the separation, but I will always love my Pete.”

And now, while speaking about her life and relationships with Paul, she shared her hopes to reconcile with her to work through their issues after not speaking to one another for 16 years. “You’ve not talked to Peter Andre – would you have a chat with him here?” Paul asked Katie, to which she honestly responded: “Yeah I would, there’d be sparks.”

Paul added: “If we can, we will make that happen because I think it would be incredible to reconcile that – it shouldn’t even be sparks.”

Discussing the reason for their split, Katie also said: “We broke up because he thought I was having an affair with my dressage rider, and I’ve never slept with him. I just kept my horse there, and I was happy keeping my horse there, and he was married.

“But when me and Pete split, because he used to keep saying, ‘That’s it. I’ve had enough. I’ve had enough’. It got to a point where I went, ‘Well f***ing divorce me’. And I remember the day, because then I flew to the Maldives with the kids.

“That day, I’m at the airport, it’s all on Sky News, it wasn’t mutual at all. And then I redone a statement saying I don’t want to split with Pete, it’s Pete that’s splitting with me.”

Prince William set to upset Meghan and Harry with controversial move

Prince William is believed to have cut off all contact with his brother and wife Meghan Markle – but his latest move is sure to raise eyebrows amongst royal watchers

Prince William has kept his silence when it comes to his feud with Prince Harry, but his latest move is set to upset his younger brother and wife Meghan Markle.

William, 42, is said to have completely cut ties with the Sussexes following their repeated public attacks on the Royal Family. And just recently, Harry admitted in an interview with the BBC that “some members of my family will never forgive me” for writing his memoir Spare.

Now it has been revealed that William is set to make a cameo appearance on Clarkson’s Farm, two years after host Jeremy Clarkson made controversial and sexist comments about Meghan.

Just recently, The Times confirmed that “Prince William features in the next-but-one series of Clarkson’s Farm.” Speculation about his appearance surfaced when William attended an event celebrating the Duchy of Cornwall’s next generation of farming tenants in Bristol, England, in March – and met Clarkson’s Farm stars Kaleb Cooper and Charlie Ireland.

At one point, William relayed a funny message for Kaleb from his eldest son, Prince George. “You’ve got George watching now,” William told the farmer. “I said to him, ‘What shall I say if I meet Kaleb?’ He said, ‘Tell Kaleb to mind his language.'”

Caleb later admitted: “I did get told off for swearing too much…I tried to stop, but at the same time, it’s awesome. That’s what I like about the whole show…I’ve had so many people thank me, going, ‘You brought the family together.’ It’s a great feeling.”

News of William’s cameo on Clarkson’s Farm comes two and a half years after Jeremy wrote a column about Meghan that was widely condemned – and eventually pulled by its publisher.

In December 2022, the presenter penned an article for The Sun about hating Prince Harry’s wife “on a cellular level”, adding that he dreamed about people throwing excrement at her “when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain”.

Jeremy later said in a tweet that it had been “a clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones,” acknowledging that it “has gone down badly with a great many people.” The article sparked immediate backlash, and The Sun removed the piece from its website.

And after over 25,000 people complained to Ipso – the Independent Press Standards Organisation – it was ruled as sexist by the press regulator. Both The Sun and Jeremy issued apologies, with the paper saying it was “sincerely sorry.”

But a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex disputed Clarkson’s claim that he apologised to both Meghan, 43, and Prince Harry, 40. In a statement shared in January 2023, the spokesperson said, “On December 25, 2022, Mr. Clarkson wrote solely to Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex. The contents of his correspondence were marked Private and Confidential.”

“While a new public apology has been issued today by Mr. Clarkson, what remains to be addressed is his long-standing pattern of writing articles that spread hate rhetoric, dangerous conspiracy theories and misogyny,” it continued.

Rebecca Adlington reveals how miscarriage heartbreak resulted in life-changing diagnosis

Former Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington has opened up about the moment she got a “life changing” diagnosis for an autoimmune condition that affects one in 10 people

Olympic swimming star Rebecca Adlington wishes she had asked her doctors to test her for coeliac disease sooner. But her story, which she is sharing this Coeliac Awareness Month, is by no means unusual. With just 36% of people with coeliac disease medically diagnosed in the UK, an estimated 500,000 people will be living with unexplained and often debilitating symptoms.

It was only in October last year, aged 35, Rebecca was finally diagnosed with the chronic autoimmune condition that causes the body to react to gluten in the diet. The four-time Olympic medal-winning swimmer describes it as “life changing”, after years of upset.

“As I have had multiple pregnancies, I put a lot of symptoms down to hormonal changes,” she explains. “I suffered with stomach pain, fatigue, mouth ulcers, bloating, and constantly felt run down or ill. The tiredness affected both my personal and professional life as I didn’t feel as productive or have enough energy like other people.

“Meanwhile, the mouth ulcers affected my diet as I struggled to eat sometimes as they were so painful and so many. The stomach pain was persistent. I also experienced two miscarriages and whilst my doctor couldn’t pinpoint the cause, this and my stomach pain ultimately led to me being tested for coeliac disease and subsequently diagnosed.”

She adds: “If you are experiencing ongoing symptoms or issues like I had, just ask the doctor for a test. I never even thought I might have coeliac disease but I wish I had asked my doctors to test me sooner.”

For this year’s Coeliac Awareness Month, running throughout May, Coeliac UK is urging the public to ask their GP: “Is it coeliac disease?” and take the charity’s free online self-assessment tool to calculate their risk. People can check if they are experiencing common symptoms and, if so, it is recommended they ask for testing for the condition. But it’s important to not remove gluten from your diet until you have a blood test – and possibly a biopsy – to confirm it, as this risks a potential false negative result.

Coeliac disease is a serious autoimmune condition affecting one in 100 people in the UK – yet it remains hard to diagnose. When someone with coeliac disease eats gluten, their body attacks its own tissues, causing damage to the gut and leading to serious health complications if left untreated. The only treatment is a lifelong, strict, gluten-free diet.

Symptoms of coeliac disease can be recurrent, persistent or unexplained. They may include, but are not limited to, fatigue, stomach pain, anaemia, and neurological issues, such as loss of balance, brain fog and neuropathy – numbness and tingling in the body.

Now mum-of-two Rebecca is on a strict gluten-free diet, she has seen vast improvements in her health and wellbeing. “Since removing gluten, I feel significantly better. My mood, my energy – everything is better. I am not in pain any more. I am able to exercise more as I feel better.

“To achieve a balanced diet, I eat things that naturally don’t have gluten, like rice and potatoes, but also rely on gluten-free substitutes for items like bread and flour, but these are so much more expensive. Shopping takes longer as you have to examine every label and ingredient to make sure it doesn’t contain gluten. I had lots of people recommend Coeliac UK to me when I announced my diagnosis on social media. I found their support and information so helpful when adjusting to living on a strict gluten-free diet.”

Hilary Croft, Coeliac UK CEO, says: “For those battling with unexplained symptoms, a coeliac disease diagnosis can be life changing. Our campaign aims to increase awareness of coeliac disease and we aim to reach the estimated half a million people living with the symptoms of undiagnosed coeliac disease to help guide them on the road to recovery. At Coeliac UK, we’re here to help with advice and information for anyone who suspects they might have coeliac disease as well as those looking for ongoing support.”

The Coeliac Awareness Month campaign looks at raising awareness of coeliac disease by sharing real stories and empowering those affected by it to recognise symptoms, complete its online self-assessment, and take the first step on the road to recovery.
