18 Killed In Jigawa Multiple-Vehicle Crash

A fatal road traffic accident along the Dutse–Kwanar Babaldu highway in Jigawa on Tuesday left 18 people dead, according to police.

A Volkswagen vehicle carrying passengers reportedly burst in a tyre-burst that caused the collision to involve three vehicles.

The driver lost control and collided with a different-looking vehicle as a result. Moments later, a truck struck the two vehicles, causing them to be crushed.

Umar Matazu, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident, stating that the accident had little chance of victims escaping.

According to Matazu, “three vehicles were involved in a fatal accident that occurred between Dutse and Kwanar Babaldu.”

“A Volkswagen that was traveling with passengers collided with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction and lost control.” Unfortunately, a truck struck the two vehicles as they ran into them.

He continued, “There were a lot of casualties,” according to preliminary reports.

“A total of 18 people have been confirmed dead so far. He claimed that both children and adults were among the victims.

To rescue survivors and clear the road for traffic, emergency personnel and security personnel were on the scene. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for medical care, while the deceased’s remains were evicted.

The Sector Commander urged drivers to always check that their vehicles are roadworthy before traveling and to adhere to speed limits to avoid tragedies.
