On the second day of Glorious Goodwood, Qirat defeated Rosallion to win the Sussex Stakes, which was a shock 150-1 victory.
The four-year-old, who trained under the direction of Ralph Beckett and was a favorite for Field of Gold, took a late lead before being overtaken by the Aidan O’Brien-trained Serengeti.
Qirat regained control and won the game in a close second to Rosallion in a massive shock.
With Sole Power, the only other three-figure winner in the 21st century, winning the 2010 Nunthorpe Stakes at 100-1, it was the biggest-priced success in a British Group One race of the century.
Richard Kingscote, the jockey, told ITV, “It’s turning into a cracking year.”
We ultimately served as a helping hand in an even gallop before being somewhat ignored early, before taking advantage of Wayne [Lordan] on Serengeti.
Ralph said, “This horse enjoys the track, and even though we’re here to help, he can do his best.”
“I feel like a villain, but I kept going when I realized it wasn’t a grey nose.”
Trainer Beckett continued, “Richard is very good in this role and he is a real Goodwood specialist.”
