14 Killed As Tanker, Bus Collide On Lapai-Bida Road

On the Lapai-Agaie-Bida Federal Highway, the Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kumar Tsukwam, confirmed a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of 14 people and injured six others.

In a statement, Tsukwam attributed the crash to excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking.

The accident, which occurred at 10: 59 am on Saturday, February 22, 2025, between Kusobogi and Nami, involved a Toyota Hiace bus travelling from Minna to Agaie and a DAF tanker heading from Lagos to Kaduna.

The Toyota Hiace bus’s driver collided head-on with the oncoming tanker in an effort to overtake another vehicle at high speed, according to the FRSC report.

The impact was fatal, resulting in the immediate deaths of 14 passengers, including five females, one male child, and eight males. Six male passengers were taken to Lapai General Hospital for immediate medical care after suffering serious injuries.

While the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue, the injured were taken to a hospital.
