After being cast as Ronnie Spector in an upcoming biopic, rumors are circulating that Zendaya will eventually win her first-ever Oscar nomination.
Stars like Rami Malek, Renée Zellweger and most recently Timothee Chalamet have proved that the best way to win awards is by starring in a biopic. Now, fans are predicting the same fate for Zendaya who has been confirmed to star in a biographical drama about Ronnie Spector.
Zendaya will portray the late ‘60s music icon in the upcoming A24 production Be My Baby, which will focus on the life of the former Ronettes singer. Zendaya, who will also serve as a producer, was first attached to the project in 2020 and was hand-picked by Ronnie Spector for the role before her passing in 2022.
According to fans, this biopic will finally be enough to win Zendaya her first-ever Oscar. After the official announcement, fans flooded X with encouragement for the actress.
One fan said, “Zendaya, your Oscar is coming.” She is about to start working her off, writes another writer. In the future, she will receive an Oscar with her name on it. One fan claims that this could be Zendaya’s Oscar because she has already won numerous Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards. We’re getting closer to Zendaya EGOT if she is able to pull this off.
Be My Baby already has all the makings of an Oscar’s darling. In addition to an A-list lead, the film will be directed by Oscar-winning screenwriter behind Moonlight, Barry Jenkins.
The film will be adapted from the singer’s 1990 memoir: “Be My Baby: How I Survived Mascara, Miniskirts, and Madness, Or, My Life as a Fabulous Ronette”. Instead of focusing on the full life of the Ronnie Spector (born Veronica Bennett), the film will hone in on her life with her abusive former-husband and infamous producer Phil Spector.
To date, Zendaya has not been able to snag an Oscar nomination herself, despite being tied to nominated projects like Dune: Part Two. Many felt the actress was snubbed for a Best Actress nomination for leading role in the heady tennis drama, Challengers.
The actress was notably absent for this year’s Academy Award ceremony, despite Dune: Part Two being nominated, but she has been rallying with back-to-back projects. In addition to starring alongside Robert Pattinson in The Drama, she is also gearing up for production of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey alongside her fiancée Tom Holland.
