According to a new book, Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney both experienced “melancholy” at the same time Paul McCartney left The Beatles.
Yoko Ono faced a health worry around the same time Paul McCartney decided to leave The Beatles, according to a new book.
In his 2025 biography, ‘Yoko’, author David Sheff delves into a challenging period in the lives of Yoko Ono and her partner, the late Beatles singer-songwriter John Lennon.
He revealed that John and Yoko experienced a bout of “melancholia” and “dark moods” when they returned from Denmark to their UK home, Tittenhurst Park in Ascot, Berkshire, with the author claiming that they “bickered.”
However, a massive shock was soon to come. Paul announced his solo album, McCartney, and his intention to depart from the Fab Four, despite John maintaining a “vow of silence.”
This led to Paul bearing the “brunt of the ire” and becoming what John’s biographer, Ray Connolly, labelled as the “most hated man in the world.”
Amidst this turmoil, there was also concern for Yoko’s health, reports the Mirror US. In his account of the break-up, David revealed John’s reaction: “John was angry; he’d kept his vow of silence about the break-up, but Paul announced it to promote his new record.”
Jann Wenner, who wanted to conduct a significant interview with John for Rolling Stone, traveled from San Francisco to Tittenhurst later that month, but Yoko claimed John was too depressed and paranoid to meet him. She also had problems.
In the midst of chaos, Yoko, who had her first child, Kyoko Chan Cox, with Anthony Cox and second, Sean Taro Ono Lennon, with John Lennon, was fraught with worry: “Adding to her malaise, she was pregnant again and worried about another miscarriage.”
According to reports, Yoko, 92, lives on a 600-acre farm in upstate New York and listens to the wind and watch the sky while also enjoying her life in a “happy place” according to her family.
Kyoko, her daughter, shared her admiration for her mum in a biography, revealing: “She believed she could change the world, and she did…now she is able to be quiet – listen to the wind and watch the sky.”
In a London gallery where Yoko exhibited her work, John and Yoko first met in November 1966. According to reports, the Beatles star and her art were friends. In March 1969, they got married.
