The islanders whose lives are being stricken by the ongoing hostility between North and South Korea are visited by 101 East.
North and South Korea still have tense relations almost 80 years after the split.
The consequences are severe for those who reside on South Korean islands close to North Korea’s coast.
Residents of Yeonpyeong, a hyper-militarized island, are still suffering from a 2010 attack by North Korea. A few kilometres away, on the island of Baengnyeongdo, fishermen were abducted by North Korea nearly 50 years ago, and accused of espionage by the South upon their return.
Now, the victims and their families are fighting for justice.
