Wynne Evans’ three-word vow has become public as a result of his shock expulsion from Strictly Come Dancing.
At a photocall event in Birmingham, during the tour’s launch, the Welsh opera singer, who rose to fame as the ‘ GoCompare Man ‘ was caught on camera using sexualised language that appeared to make others feel uncomfortable.
The 53-year-old has now come under fire for making a vulgar comment about Janette Manrara, a host on tour, while coddling up with other Strictly stars. She was a partner with dancer Katya Jones during his Strictly run.
Wynne was caught making an inappropriate sexual remark as Janette approached the group. The interaction began when the tenor sang out: “Go Compare”, going on to add: “Not too close to Jamie”. The demeaning phrase “spit roast” was then used to refer to an explicit sexual act.
In a statement, Wynne told the Mirror: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise”. In his brand-new BBC show All At Sea, which follows him and Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page on a tour of Wales, Wynne promised to become a “much better person.”
The first episode of the series aired Monday, January 27 – just as an outcry erupted over Wynne’s crass comments. Opening up in the show, Wynne admitted that he often hides his true self from the world, confessing: ‘ There’s an opera called Pagliacci which is about the clown entertaining people and when you take the makeup off it’s a very, very different person underneath.
“I suppose that’s my goal. I wanted to be the same person both on and off the air.
Wynne went on to add that his travel show journey had led to him “learning so much about” himself, adding: “Hopefully, I’m going to be a much better person when this trip ends”.
Wynne confirmed yesterday evening (January 28) that he had indeed received the chop, revealing that he had agreed to “take some time out” from his radio show and the Strictly Come Dancing live tour “to prioritize my wellbeing” with the BBC.
Clarifying he’d been dropped from the star-studded tour, Wynne shared: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.
I’m deeply sorry for the suffering my inadvertent behavior has caused, and I’m going to take some time to reflect on my actions. I’m sorry to those who won’t be able to see the remaining performances, and I’m appreciative of my fellow tour members’ continued support.
After controversially placing his hand on Katya’s waist before appearing to move it closer to her stomach, Wynne previously faced criticism for an “inside joke” he made with her. As the pair remained side by side, Katya then appeared to brush Wynne’s hand away.
In a video that appeared to be awkward, both Katya and Wynne responded by saying it was merely a “silly joke.” We just wanted to apologize and say we were just messing around in the Clauditorium on Saturday night, Katya told the crowd. It was a silly joke. “
According to a source who claims Wynne and his girlfriend Liz Brookers, 50, have split, revealing how difficult it has been for Liz to “watch” gropegate after Wynne reportedly started a “particularly close relationship with Katya” on social media.
According to this source, Liz always” knew he was old school “and” liked that he was rough around the edges”. It’s not known when they split, according to the insider, but friends claim that she was relieved when his most recent lewd behavior was exposed at the Strictly Live Tour launch.
A BBC Wales spokesperson told the Mirror:” We support the statement made by BBC Studios. We do not tolerate unacceptable behaviour. “
A BBC Studios spokesman responded to Evans’ most recent crude remark by saying, “We were not previously aware of the remark and did not receive any complaints. We have made it very clear to Wynne that we will not tolerate such conduct on the tour.
