Adelaide Women’s Big Bash League
Adelaide Strikers 167-4 (20 overs): Penna 61* (51), Strano 1-17
Did not bat, Hobart Hurricanes.
Match was discarded
At the halfway point, the Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes women’s Big Bash match was postponed because a ball accidentally fell into the pitch.
A ball got stuck under the roller that was climbing up the playing surface as the players warmed up between innings.
A “hole” on the pitch was created as a result, “significantly” altering the playing conditions.
It was deemed unreasonable to expect Hobart to bat in circumstances that were materially different from those the Strikers had following consultation, according to a statement.
The hole was “quite large and deep,” according to Hurricanes captain Elyse Villani.
Due to the abandonment, both sides came away with one point.
With just one match left, Hurricanes were already guaranteed the top spot and a spot in the final, while Strikers, who posted 167-4 prior to the incident, are sixth, two spots below the qualification spots.
