After a strong start for clubs from Brazil and Argentina, Flamengo boss Filipe Luis claims a South American team can win the Fifa Club World Cup.

After Botafogo defeated Champions League champions Paris St-Germain 1-0, fellow Brazilian side Flamengo came from behind to defeat Chelsea 3-1. Uefa Conference League champions Chelsea came from behind.

The new 32-team format includes six South American teams, including Boca Juniors and River Plate from Argentina, Palmeiras, Botafogo, Flamengo, and Fluminense from Brazil.

After nine games, Palmeiras, Botafogo, Flamengo, and River Plate are all unbeaten in their respective groups.

Since Brazil defeated Chelsea in the 2012 World Cup final, no Brazilian team has triumphed in the Club World Cup.

Since then, only winners have been from Europe.

No team from Argentina has yet to win the tournament since it was established in 2000.

After orchestrating a win over his former club Chelsea, Flamengo boss Luis expressed surprise that South American teams are unbeaten. “I know the quality of European football,” he said.

played nine games, won six, and didn’t lose.

Could South America’s mid-season weather have anything to do with their recent success?

After spending lengthy seasons, European teams entered the Club World Cup.

Botafogo has won both of their Group B games while Palmeiras leads Group A with four points, while Botafogo is at the top.

Benfica’s only Group C encounter thus far ended in a 2-2 draw for Boca Juniors.

After defeating ES Tunisia and Chelsea, Flamengo now leads Group D with six points from two games.

River Plate’s only previous encounter with Urawa Red Diamonds, Japan’s 3-1 victory, and Fluminense held Borussia Dortmund to a goalless draw ended in a draw.

These outcomes surprise me, Luis said.

The South American clubs are very competitive and sometimes not the best win the Copa Libertadores, according to the club’s weather, which they are not used to.

I can compete with European competitors, I say.

With goals from Bruno Henrique, Danilo, and Wallace Yan in the second half, Flamengo won the tournament after going back from a 1-1 deficit to defeat Chelsea.

Soon after the Chelsea substitute started, Nicolas Jackson’s straight red card helped their cause.

After the final whistle at Lincoln Financial Field, thousands of Flamengo fans who had traveled to the United States cheered on their side in exuberance.

Former Flamengo midfielder Kleberson told DAZN, “The players are waiting to show that I can compete against European players.”

Former Chelsea midfielder Jorginho was a part of Flamengo’s team.

He told DAZN, “We were really confident and we know that in these big games, the details matter.”

We said at half-time, “Let’s keep pushing because we were really good in the first half.”

I made the wise decision to remain in Brazil.

With a 1-0 victory over Paris St-Germain, Botafogo, the Copa Libertadores’ 2024 champion, had one of the most eye-catching tournament victories so far.

Igor Jesus, who had been closely linked with a move to Nottingham Forest earlier this year, said that “one team was the champion of the Champions League, and the other team was the champion of South America,” before deciding to stay with the Brazilians to compete in the Club World Cup.

Luis Enrique’s side was kept out by Botafogo’s superb defense.

“I told my guys to just be a team, enjoy, play together, attack together, defend together,” said Botafogo boss Renato Paiva, “This PSG side is a lesson to everyone in football.”
