Eagle-eyed football fans noticed an unlikely piece of silverware in pride of place when the White House posted a photo of US President Donald Trump meeting with world leaders this week in the Oval Office.

The president’s office in Washington, DC, has the Club World Cup trophy on display. Chelsea defeated Paris St-Germain to win it in New Jersey in July.

Many people on social media were left wondering why the “Chelsea’s trophy” was erected in one of the world’s most significant offices just after Enzo Maresca’s side won it at Metlife Stadium.

President Trump claimed that in recognition of the country hosting the month-long tournament and that he was given the right to keep the trophy after the final in July.

When will you pick up the trophy, I asked? They said, “We’re never going to pick it up,” they continued. We’re creating a new one in the Oval Office, he said in an interview with DAZN. “You can have it forever in the Oval Office.”

“And they actually created a new one,” she continued. That was really exciting, but it is currently being held in the Oval Office.

That isn’t entirely the case, however, according to Fifa. In fact, there are three Club World Cup victories.

As is customary with all Fifa trophies, including the World Cup, the original engraved version is kept in Zurich, Switzerland, at Fifa’s headquarters.

Chelsea held a pre-season friendly against AC Milan, and Chelsea proudly displayed one of its replicas.

The organizers referred to the Club World Cup as the “world’s most successful club competition,” which took place in 11 US cities.

However, it also received criticism for the poor weather and pitch quality in the US, as well as for its low attendances (more than a million seats were left out during the tournament).

Trump presented the trophy to Chelsea in an unusual way, but he stayed on the stage afterward and celebrated with the players, who reportedly were “a little confused.”

After the Blues won, Trump gave the trophy to Reece James, the team’s captain, before Gianni Infantino, the president of Fifa, invited him to step down.

However, Trump remained there while James and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez lifted the trophy before he and Infantino left at the back of the stage.
