West Indies wins series 1-1 with 197 runs (DLS method).
In a dominant West Indies victory over Ireland that ended in a draw in the one-day international series at Clontarf, Keacy Carty put together a second century.
On Wednesday, Ireland won the series’ opening match by 124 runs, but a two-hour delay caused the second meeting to end without a result.
Carty once more opened the scoring for the visitors in Sunday’s third game, leading the way with an unbeaten 170 total of 385, despite Ireland’s revised target of 363 as a result of a drop in overs following the rain.
Despite their 352-run tally on Friday, West Indies captain Paul Stirling put them in the lead after Ireland won the toss.
Barry McCarthy forced Brandon King to take the opener for just one run before he could score a single wicket, which gave Carty his second century of the series and surpassed his previous best ODI total of 128 against England in November.
Before and after the series, Ireland’s bowling team was injured, and Carty drank from a tiring attack.
The 28-year-old made up for his scares before posting the impressive tally, most notably when Liam McCarthy bowled him on 150 before the delivery was declared a no-ball.
When he was eventually out for 170 when George Dockrell caught him off the bowling of Liam McCarthy, who had previously gathered a deep drive but carried it across the rope for a six.
West Indies’ 385 was the most extensive ODI total ever scored at Clontarf thanks to Carty’s skillful support from captain Shai Hope, who scored 75 off 75 balls and Justin Greaves’ maiden international half-century.
When set such an imposing target, Stirling’s 26 contained three fours and two sixes, but Ireland’s response was never as fast as it was needed.
With his 48 balls coming off 63 balls, cade Carmichael, who made his series international debut, was the hosts’ top scorer.
Three one-day internationals and three T20 matches against England will be the next two matches for West Indies, which will kick off Harry Brook’s white-ball reign as the hosts on Thursday at Edgbaston.
