Ryan Mason has been named West Brom’s head coach.

Tony Mowbray was fired on April 21 and the Championship side spoke with Mason, 33, last week, who has signed a three-year deal with the Hawthorns.

Mason, who advanced through the club’s academy and played for his boyhood team, will now have to complete his seven-year coaching career at Tottenham.

I’m excited about what we can accomplish together because this is a sizable club with a fantastic infrastructure and a fantastic fan base.

I’ve talked to the board and the club for a while, but I’m now convinced Albion is the ideal place for me to start.

The former Spurs midfielder’s contract was scheduled to expire at the end of June.

West Brom finished last season just outside the play-off spots, so Mason will now attempt to reclaim the title for the first time since 2020-21.

Sam Pooley joins Rangers as the club’s first-team coach and head of performance, while Nigel Gibbs, who joins from Reading, has been appointed Mason’s assistant.

After being fired as first-team manager following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal in 2021, Mason made a significant contribution to Tottenham’s coaching staff before taking over as assistant manager.

Since Antonio Conte’s departure in 2023, he had been a senior member of Tottenham’s senior set-up and has since assumed the role of acting head coach.
