‘We depend on that DNA’ – the next generation of Lionesses

Can the Lionesses’ recent success, which included two European titles, be replicated by the Lionesses?

The Football Association has changed the game recently to try to get the most out of England’s young talent, which raises a significant question.

During her four years in charge, boss Sarina Wiegman has called up 20 youth players and given them caps.

Grace Clinton and Jess Park, as well as Aggie Beever-Jones and Michelle Agyemang, are among them.

The senior squad is getting ready to wrap up a year in which they won the Euro 2025 title, but Emma Coates’ under-23s are hoping to impress Wiegman and make a call-up.

Maisie Symonds, who started in midfield for the under-23s against Norway, was one of seven players that Wiegman has nominated this year.

“We need young players who are competitive and push both the older players and myself.” That is very encouraging.

Coates and Wiegman have frequent meetings and discussions about the development of players, and they collaborate closely with her coaching staff.

The biggest issue is probably just how quickly the under-23s perform in comparison to the seniors.

And playmaker Erica Meg Parkinson, who turned 17 when she made her under-23 debut, had numerous chances and soared all night.
