Wales recall Ramsey for Belgium and England games

Aaron Ramsey will start for Wales’ October World Cup friendly against England in Belgium.

The 34-year-old midfielder made just one substitute appearance in six months as he recovered from injury and was dropped from the squad for matches against Kazakhstan and Canada earlier this month.

Ramsey has started three games for his Mexican club, Pumas UNAM, and has also started two more games on the bench.

After missing the matches against Kazakhstan and Canada due to injury, Wales is able to welcome back Leeds United players Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon, Coventry City defender Jay Dasilva and Wrexham forward Nathan Broadhead.

Despite reports of a knee injury, Leeds winger Dan James is included, and his club side is holding out for his country’s team.

Wales, who is currently third in Group J, still has a chance to earn automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup. However, they need other outcomes to achieve that.

With three games left, North Macedonia are top on 11 points, one point ahead of Wales and Belgium, who are ahead of Craig Bellamy’s men in terms of goal difference and have a game in hand against both of their rivals.

The top-place finishers are automatically guaranteed a spot in the March 16-team play-offs, while the runners-up are guaranteed a spot in the finals.

With their Nations League group victory last year, they are almost certain of a play-off spot, even if they come in third.

Ben Cabango (Swansea City), Jay Dasilva (Coventry City), Ben Davies (Tottenham Hotspur), Ronan Kpakio (Cardiff City), Dylan Lawlor (Cardiff City), Chris Mepham (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Rodon (Leeds United), and Neco Williams (Nottingham Forest) are the defenders.

Ethan Ampadu (Leeds United), David Brooks (Bournemouth), Jordan James (Stade Rennais), Aaron Ramsey (Pumas UNAM), Josh Sheehan (Bolton Wanderers), Sorba Thomas (Stoke City), Harry Wilson (Fulham), and Joel Colwill (Cardiff City) are the midfielders.
