With a victory over Australia in Brisbane, Wales won its first game under head coach Sean Lynn.

Wales put together a strong performance just four weeks after winning the Rugby World Cup, having lost all five of its Six Nations games earlier this year.

Before play was ended due to an impressive display of thunder and lightning on the Sunshine Coast, Annabelle Codey gave the hosts a first-ever lead.

Wales looked revived after Nel Metcalfe crossed twice as Wales looked revived, but a lapse in concentration prevented Tabua Tuinakauvadra from sneaking over on the stroke of half-time to reduce Wales’ lead to 14-12.

Wales’ defense was up to the task despite the Wallaroos occupying territory in the second half as Hannah Dallavalle extended Wales’ lead.

Wales’ first game on Australian soil was a team that was ranked sixth in the world, and the result was tremendously encouraging.

When a delayed pass from fly-half Tia Hinds exposed the defense for Morgan to score in the corner, the Wallaroos fired a warning shot in the first minute.

However, Wales’ relief was greatly diminished when play was resumed for crossing midfield.

Five minutes later, with Codey adding the finishing touch, Australia continued to dominate.

The players were then rushed off the field as the storm started to arrive right away, and the 30-minute break gave Wales time to regroup.

After some strong set pieces put the Wallaroos under pressure, they were resurgent upon their return and started to throw the ball around.

Alex Callender picked up from the base of a strong scrum before Keira Bevan made room for full-back Metcalfe to pass through. After 20 minutes, Bevan converted and made it 0-0.

Wales fought back dangerously even as the Wallaroos appeared threatening, but Lleucu George and Metcalfe were successful in preserving what appeared to be a certain try.

Wales then had another chance, with Metcalfe getting involved, but Donna Rose knocked on with the try line in sight in greasy conditions.

At the end of the half, Wales had a strong attacking platform thanks to a five-meter driving lineout. When Bevan had enough, the ball went through the hands of Metcalfe and met him in space as Australia bravely defends several pick-and-go attempts.

Wales had a seven-point lead heading into Bevan’s trusty boot, but the Wallaroos had other ideas and advanced to the other end, and Tuinakauva was not denied after asking a second time.

Although the first half saw the best of Wales’ youngsters, an older head took the lead after the break.

Hannah Jones, who is now playing under the married name Dallavalle, pounced onto George’s beautifully weighted kick, who was quick to point out that full-back wasn’t covering.

Wales extended their lead once more with a strong start from the tee.

The Wallaroos dominated the Australian 22 during the second half, but that was one of the few times they made it to the country.

Wales’ defense, however, was significantly improved by Callender, who scored a crucial turnover to stop Morgan from scoring a second try.

In a memorable afternoon for Wales women, Seren Lockwood, Katherine Baverstock, and Tilly Vucaj all won their first caps.
