Tottenham Hotspur’s request to move their Premier League game in May has angered Aston Villa, who wants to boost the London club’s chances of success there.
Spurs are currently playing in the Europa League semi-finals, and they will be required to play in Bilbao on May 21 — just three days after their Villa Park encounter.
The club announced in a statement on Sunday that it was “informing supporters” that the Premier League was discussing changing the date for our away Premier League game against Aston Villa, which is currently scheduled for May 18th.
There is no precedent for the Premier League to move fixtures to aid clubs in European competition, according to sources close to the matter.
Due to their participation in the Champions League and FA Cup, Villa have played every three to four days in April, according to BBC Sport.
The final home game of Villa will feature a number of pre-planned family activation activities that would not be possible to complete if the game was played in the evening. Another factor in the refusal is the game against Tottenham, Villa’s final home game of the season.
