At the former deputy governors’ forum’s fourth annual national conference, Philip Shaibu and Omobayo Godwins fought over who should represent Edo State.

Shaibu publicly objected to Omobayo’s appointment as the former deputy governor at the event in Abuja on Tuesday, which started the drama. As both men argued over legitimacy, the situation abruptly turned into chaos.

Shaibu, who claimed Omobayo was never elected but was “brought in through the backdoor,” later claimed the introduction was “improper.”

He claimed that the office was never vacant and that a court order had made his removal illegal.

Omobayo responded, “I never made myself deputy governor.” He further claimed that he had tried to remain calm throughout the incident and that the situation was “almost a national scandal.”

Omobayo argued that Shaibu, who he still considered to be “an elder brother,” should accept the case as a “sour reality to live with.”
