World Wrestling Entertainment reported that Hulk Hogan, an American sports and entertainment legend who helped make professional wrestling a global phenomenon, passed away at the age of 71.
In a Thursday social media post, World Wrestling Entertainment announced that WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan had passed away. Hogan, one of the most well-known faces in pop culture, contributed to the 1980s’ rise to global fame. The family, friends, and fans of Hogan are all in the WWE condolences.
Hogan, whose legal name was Terry Bollea, had a beach-blonde handlebar moustache, bandanas, and towering physique that he paired with an over-the-top persona that endeared him to fans and captured the spectacle of wrestling entertainment in the 1980s. He frequently waved the US flag in the ring while referring to his bulging arms as “24-inch pythons.”
Hogan was twice inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and he never slammed his legend status by refering to the US baseball phenom who became a symbol for the sport.
Hogan’s skill and bravado helped US wrestling entertainment become a global standard in the 1980s. He later became more active in US politics, supporting Donald Trump in the 2024 election.
“Let your wild Trumpamania be!” He claimed that he had ripped off his shirt during a speech at the Republican National Convention in 2024. Trumpamania should once more rule!
Trump wrote in a Thursday social media post, “We lost a great friend today, the,” Hulkster. Hulk Hogan was MAGA in every way: strong, tough, intelligent, but with the biggest heart. One of the highlights of the week was his absolutely electric speech at the Republican National Convention.
Hogan also sparked controversy when a recording of him using an anti-Black slur was released, for which WWE suspended him in 2015. He was later reinstated in 2018.
Hogan also used his fame and success as a wrestler to pursue roles in Hollywood, including roles in Rocky III and Santa With Muscles. He is one of the first WWE athletes to do so.
