A previously undiscovered song by Tina Turner is set to be released two years after the American singer’s death.

The track, titled Hot For You Baby, was penned by Australian songwriting duo George Young and Harry Vanda and produced by John Carter, who collaborated with Turner on her Private Dancer album. Originally intended for an album track, the single will now feature in a 40th-anniversary edition of Turner’s breakthrough solo album, Private Dancer. This album, nominated for Album of the Year at the 1985 Grammys, included Grammy-winning hits What’s Love Got To Do With It and Better Be Good To Me.

The reissue also boasts other unreleased tracks, live performances, and footage, including a 55-minute Private Dancer Tour show filmed over two nights at Birmingham’s NEC in March 1985. Directed by music video director David Mallet, it showcases British star David Bowie and Canadian singer Bryan Adams at the concert.

The 5CD/Blu-ray package also features five enhanced music videos, with ‘Private Dancer’ fully restored to HD from its original 35mm film. Insights from American songwriter Holly Knight, former Strictly Come Dancing judge Dame Arlene Phillips, and The Human League star Martyn Ware are included in the liner cover.

Turner, celebrated for her soulful hits and commanding stage presence, was twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and won a total of 12 Grammy Awards. The 1993 film, What’s Love Got To Do With It, brought to life the tumultuous relationship between Tina Turner and her ex-husband Ike Turner, who was allegedly abusive. The performances of Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett, who portrayed the couple, earned them Oscar nominations.

Turner was recognised with a lifetime achievement award in 2018 and three Grammy Hall of Fame awards for her chart-topping hits. In May 2023, she passed away at the age of 83 in Switzerland, where she resided with her second husband, music producer Erwin Bach, after a prolonged illness.

In a statement shared on her official Instagram, her management team said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow.

“Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly. ” Roger Davies, the singer’s manager of 30 years, paid tribute to the star, saying: “Tina was a unique and remarkable force of nature with her strength, incredible energy and immense talent.

“From the first day I met her in 1980, she believed in herself completely when few others did at that time. It was a privilege and an honour to have been a close friend as well as her manager for more than 30 years. I will miss her deeply. “

The theatre production Tina: The Musical, which chronicles the late singer’s rise from humble beginnings to rock ‘n roll stardom, premiered in London’s West End in 2018 and continues to run. Her anniversary record is set to release on March 21 and the track will be played on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show with Mark Goodier on Thursday.
