TV’s Jones takes Commonwealth role with Team Wales

Wales Team

Television presenter Gethin Jones has been named Wales Team’ chef de mission for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Jones was the Wales Team attache at the Gold Coast 2018 Games, a role that inspired him to return to university to complete a master’s degree in sports directorship.

Commonwealth Games Wales (CGW) said Jones will be the “figurehead” of Wales Team.

The former Blue Peter presenter’s duties include leading and inspiring athletes and support staff, representing Wales at official events, and serving as the team’s ambassador both before and during the Games, according to CGW.

“His background in sports and media, combined with his deep connection to Welsh culture, makes him an ideal leader to inspire and guide Wales Team through the upcoming Games as the figurehead spokesperson for the team,” they added.

The chef de mission position contributes greatly to shaping the team’s culture and values, according to CGW chair Gareth Davies, both internally among the athletes and support staff and externally to the general public.

Gethin’s interest and enthusiasm for the role show how knowledgeable and knowledgeable he is, and we’re really pleased that he applied for this position.

Jones gained “a broad understanding of elite sport environments and the demands of high-level sports management,” according to CGW, who claimed he gained “valuable experience” at the international sporting events held in London and Rio 2016.

“His responsibilities include fostering a positive team culture, fostering relationships with the Glasgow 2026 organising committee, and ensuring effective communication among all stakeholders,” they continued.
