Replacing his baseless claim that the election was marred by widespread fraud, US President Donald Trump has demanded the appointment of a special prosecutor to look into the 2020 election , which Democrat Joe Biden won.
The president criticized Biden on immigration issues in a post on Truth Social, saying he “lost” the 2020 presidential election “LANDSLIDE”.
“The 2020 election was a total FRAUD, and Biden was blatantly incompetent”! Trump asserted. The evidence is overwhelming and overwhelming. A Special Prosecutor must be elected. In the United States of America, this is unacceptable! Let the work begin”!
Trump’s resumption of his long-standing grievance comes as his White House is consumed by a significant foreign policy decision regarding whether to engage directly in the Israel-Iran war as part of an increased effort to undermine Biden’s presidency.
Trump earlier this month ordered his administration to look into Biden’s actions, alleging that aides had a role in masking his or her “cognitive decline.” The investigation has been dismissed as “a mere distraction,” according to Biden.
Even though courts around the country and a Trump attorney general from his first term found no evidence of fraud that might have affected the outcome, the post revives Trump’s claim that the election was stolen. The election was deemed “the most secure in American history,” according to the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity division.
And in the final report from the House of Representatives’ January 6 committee, it is claimed that Trump knowingly participated in a “multi-part conspiracy” to overturn the 2020 presidential election’s legal outcomes and failed to stop his supporters from attacking the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Trump’s repeated, false allegations of widespread voter fraud were shared by his supporters, according to the committee, and they were further reinforced on social media, adding to the untrustworthy behavior he had promoted during his four years in office.
Trump called for a special prosecutor, but it was unclear what he meant. If Attorney General Pam Bondi heeds his request, she could be subject to pressure to appoint someone who has already been confirmed by the Senate.
On Friday, a Department of Justice spokesman declined to comment.
In recent years, the Justice Department has appointed a number of special counsels to lead investigations into politically sensitive matters, including those involving Biden and Trump, with some coming from outside the agency.
Trump’s personal attorneys successfully launched an aggressive challenge to the appointment of Jack Smith, the special counsel tasked with looking into his efforts to undo the 2020 presidential election and his refusal to keep classified documents at his Palm Beach, Florida, Mar-a-Lago estate last year.
A Trump-appointed judge ruled in favor of Merrick Garland, who had previously ruled that the prosecutor had acted unfairly without the Senate’s consent and confirmation, and dismissed the case.
